COVID-19 Coronavirus

Stay stay mate, if places lock down they have to not treat it as a jolly or it goes south quickly...

I totally agree with you. The problem I see is that a lot of people don't take it seriously. They are like "well it's just like the flu, it's not that bad" but they forget about people that can be severely affected by it like elders and people with health problems... Not to mention that it spreads really quick and our health system can't cope with that amount of sudden cases (plus other health problems that people will still have daily) that's why we need to try to stop it so we all can be treated if we get it.

I am using my emollient cream that I get for my psoriasis on my hands at night time and a cheap one through the day as I try to avoid chapped hands. When at work I wash them a lot anyway but have stepped that up in an effort to show my 2 year olds how to wash their hands properly.

I feel like my anxiety has gone a bit haywire in the last week, for lots of reasons. So I'm sorry if I have come across a bit ranty. My manky throat isn't helping me right now either. It's so easy to vent away on here as I don't know you all...

It's okay. I don't know how to say that without thinking I sound sarcastic but I mean it sincerely. We can't always control how our anxieties affect us (which I was rather sharply reminded of in the early hours of this morning on respect to a different scenario).

And get some soothing rehydrating hand cream for afterwards. ;)
I wash my hands quite a lot as it is and my hands are feeling very sore at the moment... I use Hemp Hand cream from The Body Shop and it's very good when applied at night before bed..

My Dad's care home is about to go into lock down. The care home is on a uni campus, which has an outbreak, and he has heart failure. Need to go and say goodbye to him for a bit 😣
Oh thats so sad, sorry to hear that. These are the things we should be worrying about and seeing if we can help and support people x

Has St Albans got many outbreaks? I've not herd of many in Northampton yet, I'm probably only about 40 miles north of you

Just checking in here to say to everyone: Have hope. It seems utterly desperate at the moment, I know it does, we all feel it, that low grade terror that never really leaves you, but we are all in this together. The whole world is in this, and human kind can be truly incredible when it's pushed like this.

Look for the good stories, it helps, honestly. For instance, this company in Canada, who have basically gone full tilt and managed to reach the testing stage of a vaccine. They are one of around 20 sets of scientists who have managed to develop data enough to get this far. Others are not far behind. There's currently a "firebreak" temporary vaccine undergoing work that could be used for front line medical staff to get them all through this and enable them to help more patients without getting ill themselves. Science is quietly out there, being AMAZING. You just have to look.

How about this site, showing the numbers of recovered patients in the world currently. The number is currently sitting at 70,000 people who have survived this to fight another day and been discharged from medical care. 70,000 lives saved by truly incredible medics working around the clock.

At the moment, there are some humbling pictures coming out of the exhausted nurses and doctors, faces scarred by wearing masks and safety gear for hours on end. These people deserve all the respect and love we can possibly send them, they're truly amazing people doing their absolute best in a world filled with chaos. If you know someone who is a medic at the moment, show them some love, they are facing things we cannot even fathom and they do it day after day for very little in the way of reward or respect from the world usually.

And then there's the science of protection, because soap is incredible too. No, really, just plain old bars of soap. Here's an article explaining the science behind it.

As for me, all I can tell you is that as someone who has been in this hand washing against germs game a while, your single best preventative for keeping your hands from splitting and cracking is savlon. That stuff is awesome. Antibacterial, softening, protective and cheap, a tiny dab goes a long way.

Hang in there everyone, and tell everyone you're close to you love them.

Herts has more than most places, being so close to London I guess. It's Herts uni in Hatfield, which is the campus my Dad's care home is on.

One of the care home companies in Leicester has closed to visitors. I think it's common sense when you have a home full of high risk people to protect them as best you can though it must be hard for residents and their families not having the opportunity to spend time together

You can find it in wilko or Travis perkins, wilko is £7 and Travis perkins is £9

@Black piggies would it be possible to video call your dad so you can still talk to him and see him? Might be something the nurses would be willing to help you with. Just a thought. I'm so sorry, you're in an impossible situation, I know.

That's a good idea. The staff are lovely. Hopefully I can do that. Thanks.

On offer at the mo so good prices. I have the pump one next to my bed for after my shower every morning and a smaller one in the living room (was part of a gift set) for using during the day
I've had a shower gel of soap and glory before for Christmas, I didn't know it was a big brand back then. Il look into these as the price seems fair. Unlike my hand cream lol. The name hand food is pretty catchy, I like that

Yea that's the orange one isn't it? They also do a lip balm. Where do you buy it?
No the blue one.

Hope you keep healthy, have some vitamins, take care.

I've been surrounded by people at work all winter with coughs and colds. You've maybe already had it, like tons of us, and totally fine, fingers crossed!
