Bladder treatment

Two weeks is good. That should kick any infection once and for all.
I'm pretty sure piggies naturally have higher sugar levels in their urine (I’m sure thats Wiebke has mentioned before) so it depends how far beyond normal piggy levels it actually is.
I find it strange that he doesn’t display pain symptoms when in his cage - I know you’ve said in other threads you only hear him squeak when peeing when he is in the playpen. Can’t explain why that might be.

Its dog metacam. The previous 2 times, he was only on antibiotics/metacam for 1 week. This time, its 2 weeks of both. I didn't see this vet the first time around. The 2nd time, she seemed to think,,, because of the high level of sugar in his wee ( too much pro C), its kicked the infection off again as bacteria feed off sugar. This time around, his wee been a touch gritty cos of too many pellets(been reduced for a week now,). I'm wondering if the grit has aggrevated his bladder & started off another infection. Strange thing is, he rarely squeaks when he's in his cage, & there's enough wee. His behaviour is absolutely normal. Been popcorning this morning

Surely then, it can't be I C. as he would be in pain every single time when peeing. I just can't do anymore. He has 5g pellets each day, filtered water, grain free pellets, little gem, cucumber, pepper(green/yellow), & coriander, with celery added 3 times a week.

In his plastic box, waiting for him to do a wee on Thursday, & little Bubble comes to say hello. Very cute!

Bacteria has been found which means infection. A good course of antibiotics should deal with it.

Things like powdery pee are normal, as I have said, it’s the way the body excretes calcium. You said it felt gritty but the vet found no sign of that. You know you were inadvertently overfeeding pellets and that has now been rectified (although it’ll take weeks for it to have an effect on the body). Otherwise the diet is fine.

I would not focus on it for the next two weeks. Let the antibiotics do their job and see what happens after that.

Thank you very much for your help. By the way, I've received 2 bags of forage from piggies Parcels. Nettle, (good for urinary), & green oat

As @Piggies&buns has said above, as there’s bacteria in the urine then there is infection. Hopefully with a longer or different course of antibiotics this will help to clear it. Has a sample been sent for culture to find the right antibiotic?

Has your vet considered whether this may be interstitial (sterile) cystitis ?
She's not mentioned it, as its not every single time he squeaks when peeing, plus She's pressed all around the lower half of his body, twice, & he didn't make any sound in pain

No sample been sent off. Everytime he has antibiotics, they do work, but 4-5 weeks later, he has another UTI. he was on sulfatrim first, but now baytril for 2 weeks

It’s useful to have a sample sent off is the issue is recurring, because the correct antibiotic can then be prescribed
I can't afford to get that done. I've already paid out nearly £700. I'm hoping with him been on treatment for 2 weeks now, instead of 1,, it will do the trick. Vet pressed all around his lower body, & there wasn't a single sound from him

I can't say really what your vet would advise but you won't be overdosing by splitting the dose like this. They work it out in mgs per kg of pig each day so in that respect there wouldn't be any difference. If it were me though I'd probably e-mail my vet and ask their opinion.
When George started out with arthritis a few years ago his first dose was about 0.23ml twice a day. He was 1.3 kilo at the time.

I'm so stressed. My anxiety through the roof. Don't which way to turn. Squesk worse than ever tonight with painful wees. Its upsetting me. 😢 he's been on baytril once a day for 6 days now, as bacteria in his wee. Also 0.4mls metacam daily. Nothing is working. His diet is perfect, been on 1 cystease capsule a day since December. Nothing is helping him. So upset 😢

He may need a higher dose of Metacam or that dose twice a day.
Tomorrow I'm going to split the dose of the metacam. 0 2mls morning, 0.2 mls evening. That's the 0.4mls daily prescribed. Just very upset seeing him in this pain 😢

Speak to your vet.
Piggies do need their pain meds twice a day. However if the dose he is in isn’t enough, splitting it won’t help as it is still just the same dose.

I have to agree with @VickiA in that he could do with stronger pain relief. My Larry had similar issues and was on 0.4ml dog metacam twice a day. He also had other pain relief on top of this. I'd give your vet another call and ask about more/additional pain relief. Piggies have a fast metabolism and as such I believe it's better for them to have their pain relief twice a day to keep them covered throughout the day.
It's so horrible isn't it 😢

He's on the required dose for his weight though, so how can he have more? Shall I up the cystease to 2 capsules a day for a week, like I've recently read?

Please do speak to your vet. If he is in a lot of pain there may very well be movement in his dose.
How much does he weigh?

I’ve not personally heard of cytease being used routinely for a UTI. Certainly not something I’ve done.

He weighs 1.4klios. I was advised to use cystease to help protect his bladder with all these urinary problems. Something has happened tonight though. Should have mentioned it. When I gave him his treatment, I always check him over down below, incase he's got anything stuck. He got a very small piece of hay stuck around his penis. I pulled it out, & he's been in pain ever since. Maybe very sore now. I just don't know anymore. I can't deal with this 😫

If he is 1.4kg then the dose of metacam can be higher - a search of the forum will show you the sorts of dosages prescribed for other piggies of that weight. Metaxam dosages are given according to clinical need and UTIs tend to be rather painful. Do speak to your vet if he is in pain
Perhaps his penis is now sore.

They have both been fine all day in their cage
