bladder stone in my 12 week old baby💔

There is no need to top up with water - just give the dose as it is. They usually like metacam.
I’ve got a rabbit on long term pain meds and he willingly accepts the syringe!

is it okay to use the same syringe for both medicines?

hi everyone just thought id give you an update, dellas on day 4 of 5 of her antibiotics, she has one more dose tonight then another tomorrow morning, given her her last dose of painkillers at 3pm this afternoon. unfortunately i believe she may still have this UTI, i haven’t spotted any more red / pink wee but she’s definitely still crying almost when going to the toilet, it’s heartbreaking💔 she’s also quite touchy around her tummy area still, fingers crossed she’ll be feeling better tomorrow and if not ill be on the phone to the vets first thing, i’m thinking they may increase the length of pain meds and antibiotics but we will see!

My Ellen suffered from uti’s and was often on antibiotics for 4-6 weeks so 5 days really isn’t long at all so I suspect Della needs a longer course x

wow 4-6 weeks! thats a very long time, i did think 5 days was quite short! what where your Ellens symptoms if you don’t mind me asking? Della hates me so much already and shes only been on it for 4 days😅 i hope shes doing okay now!

Ellen had IC but regularly had uti’s too. She would have blood in her urine and squeak in discomfort when she urinated. She was on sulfatrim which is the preferred antibiotics for uti’s although takes longer than baytril to clear it.

Sadly we lost Ellen in early 2020 as she could no longer fight her IC, was really poorly and my vet suspected she had a kidney stone.

RIP Ellen❤️

called vets this morning, no appointments with the exotic vet till tomorrow and shes got a waiting list of calls today so probably won’t get a chance to speak with her unfortunately… receptionist has recommended i carry on with antibiotics and painkillers for now until we see the vet tomorrow at 6😞

Best of luck to your girl! Someone in another post had suggested taking urine samples by placing the piggy in a plastic box, slightly lifted on one side so the pee flows backwards, feeding them cucumber till they go potty, and picking up the pee with a syringe. I did it and worked like a charm, only took a few minutes and helped the vet a lot. Do it as close to your visit as possible so it's fresh. ;) Seeing those little guys in pain absolutely sucks. 😭

thanks so much! not been asked for a sample but as you say it may help! yeah its so horrible💔

are bum baths recommended for UTIs? dellas bum is quite messy at the moment and i have been doing bum baths when it gets bad but she really doesn’t like it and i don’t want to rub it in if that makes sense and make things worse?

Sorry, I'm not sure, but I'd guess keeping the area extra clean wouldn't hurt in case of an infection... I'd wait for more expert suggestions though.

thats okay! this was also my thinking but i didn’t want to irritate the area or spread anything from her bum to her bits! i suppose it’ll be like humans and as long as you wipe front to back it shouldn’t be a problem!

update!
so we’ve just been to see the exotic vet as no changes with della, she has been prescribed sulfatrim 0.12ml twice a day for a week and to carry on with pain meds once a day. need to get a wee sample and hopefully we can find out what’s really going on!

If I recall correctly sulfatrim is better for UTIs than baytril but sulfatrim is generally needed to be given for longer - a few weeks - so hopefully it’ll do the trick and she will be feeling better soon

brilliant! yes fingers crossed! 🤞🏻

update *
so i’ve gone out this morning to give Della her antibiotics and i notice one of her eyes isn’t as open as usual, red and slightly cloudy at the top😰 quickly booked in at the vets this morning (unfortunately exotic vet is booked up) as i have read how quickly eye problems can deteriorate. i can’t believe Dellas now got something else wrong with her bless her little heart, i’m hoping it’ll be something like hay poke and may just need eye drops for a few days!

Oh bless her, haypoke is a common injury. If it is haypoke, then getting prompt treatment makes all the difference.
Eyes don’t need an exotic vet at all, they are the same across all species so any general vet can deal with it
