Billie's paw

Billie had her check up today.
The leg is a bit more swollen than it was the last time, but the paw is stable (more or less) and the elbow is only effected in a small way so far.
The specialist vet also found the knees enlarged and an atrophy of the muscles in the hind legs. Nothing new really, but the first time he could actually feel the change in the joints that are visible on the x-rays.
We are going to give a new combination of pain medication a try and got a spot-on that should help with Billie's dry skin on the back, maybe help a bit with the paw.
We also had a talk about quality of life, which is still good at the moment.

Billie got told how gorgeous she is which went down really well.
And she made me register a complaint about the yucky Loxicom we got last time instead of the yummy Meloxoral or Metacam.

Hope the new meds do work well and help Billie.
I’m sure that if Tessy and GPFANS can’t sort the vet out for providing yucky Loxicom then the One and Only Thea would happily add her voice to a complaint.
You're right. Tessy should come along next time and show the vet a bit of nipping action. ;)

Dear Billie

I hear that The Nasty Vet Man had the cheek to give you yukky Loxicom instead of yummy Metacam. Well done in getting your Slave to lodge a complaint. It may do the same thing but it clearly doesn't taste the same! I have only had yummy Metacam and, as I have had no personal experience of yukky Loxicom, I'll take your word for it that it tastes revolting.

Next time The Nasty Vet Man sees you about your poorly paw nip him (or take Tessy along to do it for you) and make it quite clear that anything other than yummy Metacam will not do. You have trained your Slave well (you are to be congratulated in your Slave Training) now you just need to train your vet. This may prove a bit more difficult as vets see many animals and are more resistant to being instructed in the intricacies of how to be a good Slave. As you have trained your Slave well, I'm sure you'll manage it with a bit of nipping, pooping and wee spraying! We at the GPU don't condone nipping but we do recognise that there are exceptional circumstances where it is necessary.

Yours hoping that you never have to put up with yukky Loxicom ever again.

Dear One and Only Thea,
thank you for your support and your words of encouragement!
Next time I will take Tessy along. She is a much better nipper than I am. Though last time she came along and had a quick check up, she didn't nip the vet man at all. :yikes: Our slave warned him to be careful, but she didn't even try to nip him.
It was quite disappointing.

Though I must confess that the nasty vet man is pretty nice considering he is a vet. I could do without his poking and his looking at my private parts. But he does have gentle fingers and a nice voice.

Now that my slave and the vet man know that Loxicom is yucky, I'm sure I won't have to take it again. But unfortunately pain medication can be a bit tricky to get in Austria. Sometimes the slave doesn't have a choice.
(Luckily, the veggies are no problem around here. Except for the slave's moaning about how expensive everything has become.)

Billie xx

I found blood in the cage again this morning. :(
It was a rather large spot, but located to a single spot.
The vet said that I should only put on a bandage if it's starts to bleed more heavily or doesn't stop. So there isn't much I can do at the moment.

At least now I know that it wouldn't have made a difference if I would have switched to fleece in autumn 2021. It would have gotten worse anyhow.

Apart from this Billie seems fine. But she sleeps a lot and doesn't move around much during the day. Her appetite is fine. She has lost a bit of weight though.
This evening we had a long cuddle session. I should have started the weekly cage cleaning, but Billie just kept on sleeping all snuggled up.

The frequency of the bleeding is starting to increase again. I have a feeling that we are declining to needing a bandage again soon (just before my holiday ).
Apart from this Billie seems happy in herself. She has even gained a little bit of weight during the last week.
She sleeps a lot, but that's nothing new, needs bum baths from time to time and her arthrosis doesn't get better of course. Sometimes she is a bit wobbly right after getting up or when I put her back into the cage after giving the meds.

We have had the bandage for so long, that I'm sure we will manage it again. But it will take quality of life from Billie - and it will not be good for her front leg. :(
That's why the specialist vet is not in favour of bandaging. Billie's next appointment is only at the beginning of June, after my holiday. I tried to get an earlier appointment at first, but he seems to be booked out at the moment. But I will contact him per email...

Billie's poorly paw seemed to be a bit better for a while. It's a shame it's bleeding again. I'm looking forward to meeting you and your piggie gang very soon.
