Billie's paw

We have seen quite a lot of bloody spots during the last week, but luckily it seems to have stopped now. I hope it will stay this way for at least a few days.
The specialist vet is still not keen on starting to bandage again.

Ouch, Wouch, Nouch! That is what my gorgeous late Gran used to say when something hurt really badly. That looks so sore. Poor Billy! I know how hard you've tried to get it better @Viennese Furbabies.

The paw is pretty much unchanged, but Billie's leg shows more swelling. :(
I have increased the Metacam dose, but this time it doesn't seem to have any effect.
The next check up appointment is on June 1th, but I'm not really optimistic that the specialist vet will be able to come up with anything new.

Luckily Billie seems quite happy. Her weight is stable, her appetite as huge as ever and she doesn't limp or seem bothered by paw or leg.

I'm just not sure how much longer I'll be able to keep them on fleece. Without heating the pee pads won't dry and I can't keep them on fleece, if I don't manage to keep them relatively dry and clean.

Poor little Billie, she does so well with it.
could you buy a big roll of vet bed instead? It‘s great at draining the pee and keeping everything dry. Adding a layer of pee pads or newspaper under it

Unfortunately I can't manage vet bed. Maybe if I lived in a house with garden, but in my flat vet bed is a no-go.
But I'll carry on with fleece as long as it's possible.

While I was on holiday the piggies were kept on our usual bedding, not on fleece - a test to see how the paw would react.
There hasn't been much difference, but the crust became thicker than before.
Since they are home, I've started paw soaking in the hope that it would do more good than harm.
Today the thick crust came off, but the bleeding wasn't as bad as I had feared. I was thinking about putting on a bandage, but since the vet is very much against it whenever I ask him about it, I didn't do it.
I'll probably find blood spots in the evening, but I hope it won't be to bad.
Tomorrow we have got the checkup appointment.

Just a quick update - nothing new to tell really.
Billie's paw hasn't changed much, definitely not getting any better, but not much worse either. I guess that's all I can hope for.
There are blood stains around, sometimes we go for a week or longer without any traces of blood. Then comes the time when I find them more often again.

Billie is still very good at taking her meds, her appetite is great. Of course she sleeps a lot, but when she is awake, she is very interested in everything.
Walking can be a bit of a struggle due to the arthrosis she suffers from and she needs regular bum baths. She has also lost a bit of weight, but it's a slow downhill slide over months that goes hand in hand with a loss of muscle in her hind legs. She still comes outside of the cage on her own though and is very much part of group life.

Billie is such a gorgeous girl and it’s lovely she is enjoying life with her friends. Even though she has some health issues, but is such a happy little lady and that’s what matters x

Yes, she really enjoys life and she loves to eat. Of course we have got ups and downs. She sleeps a lot at the moment. But she is still in the first row at feeding times most of the time.

How's Billie's paw now?
Thank's for asking.
There was more bleeding the last couple of days. But it's still in the range of the constant ups and downs.
Billie is happy in herself and luckily not much affected by the ongoing heat so far. Her appetite is still going strong.

The bond you two have is so special. Here’s hoping that things remain stable for her.
Thank you!
All piggies are special, but Billie is one of those rare piggies who really bond with a human on their own account. She was very special since we met the first time when she was a baby.

Just a quick update: There isn't anything new to tell really. The situation is more or less stable.
Next Friday is Billie's next checkup at the university hospital.
I'm very happy that it wasn't yesterday - the appointment was made weeks ago - because 35° is no temperature to take a piggy to the vet unless there is an emergency. But it should be cooler next week.

Oh gosh that is hot indeed. But good to hear that Billie’s paw is stable.
