The vet said that the mites could have come in on a batch of hay. I don't think this is possible as I've been using the same farm bale for over a month now and Misty and Bramble show no signs of mites. It could be Thea's immune system is low as she is six and a half. The vet said that Thea was very healthy and I was clearly looking after her very well. Guinea pigs are for life and I do my very best to give them the very best life I can.I want to cry and love this one. It's so good to hear she turns to you in times of trouble. I'm sorry she has mites though. Fingers crossed there's no fungal. My vet was saying they are seeing a lot of it at the moment after that long spell of very humid weather we had.
They really are, you can’t just half way have a guinea pig. Either you do or you don’t. You must take care of them and love them. We have to give them the best life we can.The vet said that the mites could have come in on a batch of hay. Poor Thea, hope it’s easily treated. It’s so lovely when they turn to you for protection and comfort isn’t it.Well having finally sorted Thea's eye (well almost) she figured that I needed something else to worry about. Yesterday at her weekly check, I noticed she had grey, flaky skin and one of the rosettes on her back was a bit balder than it usually is. So off to the vets we went this morning and it turns out she has mites. Xeno Mini ordered and hopefully it'll be here by Monday when treatment will commence. The vet also took some hairs from her back (to much protest from Thea) just in case it turns out to be fungal as well (we hope it doesn't). Poor Thea decided that the vet was a Nasty Vet Lady and kept coming to me for comfort which I found lovely as she clearly sees me as a protector. It's taken 18 months of hard work since I adopted her for her to trust me like this. She has never showed this behaviour before at the vets.
