awwww.... poor Bertie - sorry to hear he's feeling a bit ouchey... hope the pain killers do the trick for him. Glad his temp was ok, no infection hopefully. Keep doing what you're doing and I'm sure he'll be just fine O0

Thinking of you and little Bertrum! ;D

Poor Bertie, good job you spotted what was wrong and whizzed him to the vets.
Is the wound infected or just sore? Has he got any other medecine in case?
Hope he feels better soon,

xx

Aw poor bertie :( I'm really hoping he's feeling better soon, hopefully he will be back to normal in no time :) love to bertie :smitten: x

thanks guys, i tell him that you all want him to get better and so does mummy, he must wonder what on earth i'm doing. 98) ;D well, the vet said it was a little warm, he didn't say anything about infection, and i'm confident with this one, as he specialises in small animals, that if he thought that it was infected, i think he would have said, however he did say keep an eye on him soo :-\ anyway, that's what i'll do. i think i'm pretty good at working out when something is up, my mummy senses start tingling (you'll know the feeling ;D). today he seems not toooo bad, very sleepy again due to the hefty painkillers, but he's had a little nibble to eat and came out, no jogging or squeaking though :( bless him, he's just not right, the pain is getting to him, i can see. anyway, i'm just gonna give him his metacam and some water. :-*

he's not right :-\ hiding away lots, very quiet, doesn't want to be mitherd (sp?)

Keep perservering love, keep it up you're doing soooo well O0 :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
Ahhh Bertie me mate, come on keep on munching please and we hope you'll be better real real soon :) :) :-* :-* :-* :-*

You are doing very well indeed with the nursing care.Do not get discouraged, they can sometimes amaze us and get better overnight.

he's eating his veggies now, he has had hay, but i don't think he's having his pellets, anyway i'm syringing him that and water. he seems very sleepy and hides away.

hi i have read all this post and would like to say hope bertie gets well soon :smitten:

Hows Bertie doing today?

I hope he is getting better. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

he is pretty much the same :-\ he is eating his hay and veggies, but not drinking, so i am syringing water. he still seems to be in pain, he's fluffed out and hides away, i'm just keeping up with what i'm doing and hoping he'll feel better soon. :) there's not much else i can do i don't think.

I think you are doing all the right things, the wound should be completely healed in 10-14 days, so if he is no better by Tuesday I'd take him back to the vets. His not having a good time is he.

Give him a big hug from me. :smitten: :smitten:

i will. :) he seems SLIGHTLY more perky today. he's up and eating, he even squeaked at me! but, he's not running around, or drinking, he seems fairly sleepy and hides away a bit. :-\ but at least he's a tiny bit brighter :)

You are doing brilliant love :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
ahhh the little fella is trying real hard, that's cause of you helping him :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
Keep on munching Bertie O0 :-* :-* :-* :-*

umm still not back to normal, but less sleepy and he had a jog, so paws crossed, he's turned the corner. however, he got really bad when he came off the metacam last time, and it's that time agiain today sooo... anyway, i REALLY hope that he is on his way to recovery. he is still a bit 'poorly' looking, and sort of mopy, but a bit better. so :)

Metacam is not ther ideal drug to use long term, but it can be continued for 2 or 3 weeks if necessary.Try cutting it back by only giving on alternate days, if this does not work you will have to continue with a daily dose. This is better than him being in pain.

I am wondering why the pain is lasting so long, maybe another vet check would be in order.

I agree with Mary about the pain lasting so long, it shouldn't. Do you know that the pain is definitely from the wound/site of op? When was the last time he had Metacam? During this op do you mean? (You said 'last time'), just wondering if its some reaction to that, but only a change to another pain killer would show you if it was and I don't know how long should be left between trying one before giving another :-\

well after the op, he was on 2 drops of metacam for 4 days, then he came off, but got a lot worse, so we took him to the vets, he said that bertie was in a fair bit of pain, gave him a Very hefty dose of something through an injection, and told us to carry on giving 2 drops of metacam, once a day for 3 days. yesterday, was the last day of the drops of metacam, so i am concerned that he may go backwards again, now he's off it. he already seems to be bit worse than early on this morning so :-\ i will keep an eye on him nd carry on with the metacam and contact the vet if he still seems to be in pain.

2 drops of Metacam is a heavy dose.I really think you need to find out what is c ausing this pain asap.It has been going on too long, and as I have already said, continuous dosing with pain killers is not the answer.

I have have lots of post op pigs here and have not had a problem with pain lasting more than 24 to 30 hrs.

Bertie should be back to normal by now.

he has been getting there, slowly, in tiny steps, i feel he may have just turned the corner. i am worried that he will go down hill cos of the pain releif being stopped, but i will see if he does. he seems a little worse than this morning earlier, but htis could just be anything. if he does go down hill, i will go to the vet asap.
