Back fusion surgery 😲

I’m having my second cataract operation next week and will be “taking it easy” for a few weeks. No bending, lifting, vacuuming or dusting. So OH will be busy with all the household chores too including the piggies!
I’m sure you’ll recover well and quickly after your cataract op - don’t rush tho 🥰

I think we are both very lucky, my OH moans but actually likes cleaning them out, is a better cook than me more often does the dusting and hoovering, I’m a lucky girl. Thank you all for the well wishes. I’m looking forward to have two good 👀 again!

This recovery malarkey is not a straight road.

I thought sitting and resting would be ok. But no, I got piriformis syndrome (which is basically a trapped sciatic nerve in your buttock). So more laying down. Then I started the physio exercises given to me and now have a lot of pain in my groin. 🤦🏻‍♀️.

Two steps forward and one step back. But I’m still positive. I’ll get there.

You really will keep going 🥰

You will get there, its a long road to recovery. You've had major surgery on your spine so it's going to take a while. Just keep up with the physio as those exercises are very important (my Aunty was a Physiotherapist and also taught it a Uni). Let your Physio know you're in pain and where and your exercises may be adapted. Don't do too much too soon.

Good luck with your cataract op.xx

Sorry to hear it's not completely straightforward. When do you next get to see the physio in person? It may be that there's a subtle difference in the way you do the exercises which can make a difference. I'm sure they can help you if they see you doing it. I found it hard to remember all the minute specific instructions properly when I had physio exercises to repeat at home. Hope things get better over the next week or so - baby steps!

Not until the end of February. They just gave me a piece of paper in hospital and said do these exercises three times a day. I’ll rest for a bit and try them again in a couple of days. If they still hurt I’ll leave it until I see them in person.

Hope things improve soon.
If you’re still in pain call the Physio.
The end of Feb is long time to wait - even longer this year as it’s a Leap Year.

A little update

I have managed to clean out the piggies for the first time this week.

I have been food shopping with my husband. But I’m not allowed to empty the trolley onto the belt or pack the shopping yet.

I can sweep the wood floors.

I have been walking a bit more.

Pain has eased a lot so I’m sleeping a bit better.

I have a checkup appointment booked for the 14 March to see the consultant and have X-rays taken.

So all in all a very positive update. ❤️

I am so pleased all is going well for you and that your hubby is doing his bit to make sure you don't do too much too soon.

He’s being amazing 🤩.

It’s weird as throughout our marriage I’ve not really asked for much help. I’ve just got on with things and he’s just got on with working and providing for his family.

We’ve not had any illness to contend with. So I wasn’t sure how he’d cope with me being under par so to speak. But he’s really stepped up.

He knows that I will try to do too much too soon. It’s just my personality. So he’s keeping me grounded.

That’s lovely that your recovery is going so well - your husband sounds wonderful - you need that support but also to keep you from overdoing it 🥰

Hi all. Everything is still going in the right direction. I did stop the pain killers and upped my walking a little. Started doing the physio exercises too.

Last couple of days had some pain so I am having a few days of resting.

The scar still hasn’t healed at the top yet. I think it’s probably just a stitch that’s not dissolving yet. It’s a bit annoying though. It’s not infected but I’m keeping an eye on it.

Saw the physio today. She was amazing.

I’ve been sitting for too long, standing for too long and bending too much 🤦🏻‍♀️ So I need to rein that back in.

I can walk as much as I want. Carry on doing my exercises plus some new ones. I’m signed off work for another month.

I’m not allowed to carry anything heavier than 10kg for 6 months!

All in all a good visit. Seeing the consultant in two weeks so we will see how it’s healing on the inside. 🤞🏻

When I broke my back I wore a simple back brace. Not because I needed to but to remind me not to bend too much. It’s easy to overdo the wrong types of movement as you start to get your mobility back. Glad to hear your physio is helping. Keep doing the exercises 👍

I have another problem at the moment. The ball of my right foot is so sore. I mean 7/10 sore. My physio has advised icing it three times a day and not walking on it much.

I think it’s because I’ve been bending my foot when I’ve been bending down and putting a lot of weight on it as I can’t bend normally yet. 🤦🏻‍♀️

One step forward another step backward.

Hi @Betsy. I’m actually sat here with an ice block on it now. Nope. It’s no better. I’ll speak to the consultant on Thursday. It will be the first time I’ve seen him since the op. So it will be good to be able to mention everything.

It’s all very up and down still. I have a few good days and then a few bad days. I am getting a bit fed up now. 🙁
