Back fusion surgery 😲

Wishing you all the best. Stay positive and focussed on the goal to be pain free. Living in constant pain is so exhausting. Hopefully things will all move swiftly for you from now on.
Thank you.

Wishing you good luck @weepweeps! Not sure how I missed and just saw this post. Fingers crossed this is the start of your pain free (or even much much less pain) life. ❤️

Just to say, hubby has spondilitis on the neck. Not sure how he got it, but when he was in RAF during his younger years, they got salmonella from uncooked chicken. He got the worst of it from all of those that got it. So now he has this zero reactive arthritis ever since and every other health issues related to it. Anyway, he had his neck fused and he can't really turn his head much or bend it backwards. So driving is quite tricky for him because of this and that's why he always get cars thru Motability with all the tech like the 360 degrees camera that is very helpful. Thankfully he got war pension early on his age because of this and got the disability benefits. But he had to fight so hard to get it all because I believe RAF were refusing accountability that time, even when the doctors and consultants are telling them it stemmed everything from getting salmonella.

He also had his jaws replaced with titanium. I believe he was one of the first ones who got it from this country and the surgeon had to fly from America to do it. He's got some nerve damage from it and he said his face tingles every now and then, especially when eating. His face sweats on the sides when it does.

It will be worth it to be pain free. My Dad had something similar done years ago when these things were new. He couldn't walk when he went into hospital, after a short stay and physio he could walk again. It wasn't long before he was going miles on country walks. I wish you well again soon.

Your poor hubby. Glad he got the treatment he needed.

That’s great. Glad it worked so well for him.

Had my consent for treatment appointment yesterday.

Here is a cool CT scan image of my slipped vertebrae.

You can see there is a step where the blocks of bones are not aligned. Also there is not a gap between them as the disc has been crushed.

He said I may be booked in for surgery not too far into the new year 😬

Ouch!

Late to this, my brother has had many spinal surgeries due to his scoliosis. He's had rods, screws and other hardware as well as rib reduction and spinal fusion. His case is a little different to yours though as surgery needed to be done in order for him to survive. He never spent very long in hospital ranging from just a few days to a week post op and usually up and walking within the first 24hrs. Normally you can expect to spend a couple of weeks in hospital as well as a lot of physiotherapy.

Recovery is long and the initial pain and scarring can be pretty brutal but it won't last forever. You'll have some pretty powerful painkillers to go home with to help with that. Remember to take it easy. What you do during the healing period has a massive impact on the final outcome.

That looks really painful! Hope you've been given some suitable pain relief. Sitting must be agony.

I'm currently waiting on MRI results as I've done something to my neck (don't know what) and it feels like I've been plugged into the mains electric grid. Been in a collar for just over 3 weeks this time. Whatever it is has happened 3 times in 6 months, I got given nothing but anti-inflammatories the first time which did nothing. The second time I got a collar. It wasn't until it happened the third time I was given 2 lots of pain meds and a MRI. All in all I think I've spent a total of 6 weeks in a collar and 10 weeks in agonizing pain because I wasn't taken seriously the first time. I've already had enough so how you have coped this long with a crushed disc and misalignment I'll never know!

How long did it take for your image result's to come through? I've been waiting 2 weeks and I know I'm being impatient but being in pain isn't fun.

Sorry for the moan. I hope you can get your back sorted soon and have a swift recovery.

Thanks for that. I hope your brother is ok now?

Good luck with your neck problem. I really hope they can get to the root of the problem as daily pain is no joke.

I had my scans done on the 8th October. And saw my consultant again on the 16th November. So what’s that? 5/6 weeks?

I am worried about the recovery as it’s supposed to be quite a long road. 😬. But I’m sure I’ll get there.

I hope you enjoy your cruise and Christmas. It's good you have a date. I know it's scary but will be such a relief when it's done.

I have a date for surgery. Not sure how I feel about it. Scared but relieved too.

It’s the 16th January! 5 hour op. 😬

OMG. Right, I need to go on my cruise next week. Then have Christmas. THEN I can think about this.
Enjoy your cruise and Christmas. It's good to have a date. I know is scary but you'll feel so much better after the recovery period is over. Remember you need to do everything your Consultant and your Physios tell you to do in order to get better properly. I know this sounds bleeding obvious now but it is easy to forget as you will get frustrated and want to feel better straight away. It will take a long time. Your body is going to go through a major trauma and you will need to be patient.

Thank you everyone. It is a long recovery and I’m absolutely awful at asking for help. Hate it. I do have OCD and this is definitely going to be a struggle for me. More than the operation I think. My poor husband. He’s up for being my cook, nurse, cleaner. He doesn’t actually know how much it takes to run a house. He’s also got to care for Chester and pepper and pebble and go shopping, do the washing. The list is endless.

You need to let him take control. Easier said than done. I would hate for my husband to take over. Basically he's hopeless. Unless I ask him to do stuff he doesn't see that the bathroom is dirty, the washing up needs to be done, the dishwasher needs to be filled or emptied, the house needs dusting/hoovering .....

Exactly

So it seems that your husband and my husband have something in common. Has your husband managed to master that "Thing of Utter Confusion" aka the Washing Machine? I've shown mine so many times how to use it and he still can't even open the door! I'm sure its a generation thing. My sons know how to use a washing machine.

Weepweeps you will be absolutely fine, please try not to worry yourself too much between now and then and enjoy yourself. I know it's easier said than done though. Have you got a good support network of family and friends to help you through?

I'm currently waiting on a spinal consultation as a scan of my neck showed a lot of 'ouchies' which I have a feeling can only be 'fixed' by surgery. They also want to scan the rest of my back to see how far down the problems go. I have no doubt that I will be experiencing the same levels of anxiety, dread and relief in the new year too, so know you aren't alone.

In the meantime please, please, please enjoy your cruise and Christmas.

I can't remember if you currently have any pigs, if you do please train partner and other suitable servants as a piggy riot will be the last thing you need!

Glad you have a date for surgery.
