Back fusion surgery šŸ˜²

Sorry to hear that you are still having problems with your foot. I do hope that the Consultant can help and that you are feeling better soon. xx

You have come so far and hopefully with the Consultant appt and physio support youā€™ll keep improving ā¤ļø

Itā€™s all very up and down still. I have a few good days and then a few bad days. I am getting a bit fed up now. šŸ™
It's a long old road to recovery. Your body's been through a major trauma you just have to give it time. As I said at the beginning of this thread, my old neighbour had her whole spine fused and took a year to recover. I know it's difficult but you really do have to be patient. Sending you get well vibes and virtual hugs.:hug::hug::hug:

I know, I know. Iā€™m just really bad at taking things easy. Thank you for the healing vibes and hugs. šŸ„°

I don't know a woman who is good at taking it easy. Sitting looking at things that need to be done (properly!) is so hard. As I've found from bitter experience if you do too much too soon it takes longer to heal.
This post has been written in a way you can all read between the lines. :))
Thank you ā¤ļø

Saw the consultant. He was very happy with how Iā€™m doing. Iā€™ve got to see him again in 6 months time. Bones not fused yet. That takes up to a year.

Still got to take it easy šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø urgh if I hear that one more time šŸ‘ŠšŸ».

He said wait another 4 weeks to do any exercise. I said Iā€™m doing some exercises that the physio gave me. He looked a bit shocked and said well only do easy ones.

My metalwork

Iā€™ve got to rest my foot for a bit longer. If no better then speak to my doctor.

My goodness look at your metalwork šŸ˜±. Iā€™ve got some of those hooks and eyes in my sewing basket - hope that was the gown šŸ¤£ Glad to hear your consultant is pleased with progress and hope your foot soon benefits from the rest x

Always good to get reassurance from the surgeon that itā€™s healing well. I appreciate itā€™s frustrating having to take it easy but the benefits should be worth the wait.

Iā€™ve just worked out what they were. It was my bra šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

She said I could keep it on but pull it up šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

Most people are not good at taking it easy when they are used to full and busy lives.
Knowing itā€™s important to rest doesnā€™t make it easy.
Hugs šŸ¤—

My foot is feeling so much better. Iā€™m using ibuprofen gel on it twice a day and also taking ibuprofen tablets twice a day and itā€™s feeling good. Iā€™ll give it a few more days and then try a little walk.

Icing it didnā€™t work at all.

Feeling positive today.

Saw the physio this week. She is happy with my progress so far. Iā€™ve got some slightly harder exercises to do and she thinks my foot pain is arthritis.

She explained to me why Iā€™m getting pain in my groin and buttocks and why I generally feel weak. Itā€™s been because Iā€™ve had a bad back for so many years all my muscles have weakened. So I need to reteach them and strengthen them. Alls good.

Hello everyone. Just wanted to ask peopleā€™s advice on back fusion surgery. Iā€™ve been told this week that my chronic back pain wonā€™t go on itā€™s own so I need to either have surgery or just live with it! Oh my goodness I really donā€™t know what to do! Itā€™s not easy surgery and the recovery is long but Iā€™m not 50 yet so if it will help me in the long run maybe I should have it while still fit. Iā€™m a bit of a control freak (OCD) and quite anxious so Iā€™m a bit of a worrier. Any thoughts advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hi there, I had a discectomy last year when I was 42. I couldn't walk without crutches as I couldn't weight bear on my left leg due to nerve compression. So for me surgery was the only hope. I am now 8 months post surgery and doing well. It has been an incredibly slow healing process and the rehab success is based on how dedicated you are to the exercises. I joined the Back in Shape program which also has loads of free content on YouTube. I don't think I'd be doing so well without it. So I can now walk for 10-15 minutes and am so much stronger. I get a stiff achey back first thing but generally am pain free. I was on 300/500 cocodamol x4 a day, gabapentin and occasionally Naproxen. Was drugged up to the eyeballs! I'm working towards losing weight and wanting to start running again. And a big bonus is I can do more for the guinea pigs! šŸ¾ā¤
I would set aside 3 months post-op to recover, but would go for it. I know spinal fusion is worse than a discectomy, but the relief has outweighed the trauma of the surgery. Good luck x
