A place to rant about things that wind you up ( keep it clean lol)

Baby Poggle had his afternoon at nursery today. Beforehand he'd had a 20min nap (he's on one now) instead of 2hr so I said they could give him another 30mins before 4pm if needed. It's a risky move with Baby Poggle but also, I don't want him to be too tired to enjoy something that's supposed to be fun for him.

Here's the ranty bit: They let him sleep for well over an hour, waking him up at half 4.

My husband and I have been trying to get baby to sleep for the last 90mins and it is not going well. So, best case scenario now is that he's definitely not getting his usual 11.5hr sleep overnight because if I don't wake him up by 7 he won't nap, and worst case is that all this stress at bed time is going have him waking up multiple times overnight. Basically, I can't win - I will have an angry tired toddler to wrangle tomorrow and all I can do is hope that I will have had enough sleep to cope with it.
I hope you had a better night, last night. Do mention the problem you have had to the senior staff(not just the member of staff involved) at the nursery. I have worked in nurseries, and unless they have a policy regarding sleep, it is entirely what you would like.
Going against parents wishes is unacceptable. It also does not help you too build a good relationship with the nursery, they need to be aware, of what has happened, after you made a specific request.

My husband wants us to complain, but I just don't want to get anyone in trouble. We both agree that it's not acceptable though. At the very least, the next time I see the same lady I will explain what happened because he went over his nap; she's quite young so maybe doesn't have kids, and I certainly didn't fully appreciate how much a mistimed nap can screw up the next 24hr+ until I became a parent myself. (Imo sleep is the key decider in how much sleep I'm going to have at night and how much fun I'll have being a mum.)

We mostly got away with it overnight and today though 🤞
Doesn't matter if you don't have kids. If you work in childcare, you should definitely know. I complained once because Jessica was sent home in a disposable nappy with her wet reusable one loose amongst her clean clothes in her bag so I had to wash everything! I was more peeved about it being loose in her bag but the nursery focussed on her being in a disposable because that was against parent wishes

Maybe Ser spider and his mates? :yikes: :yikes::yikes:

I was asleep, woke up mid-fall. It feels more likely that I rolled over in my sleep, which would make sense except a) I haven't done that before, ever and b) I was halfway down the bed when I landed, so I should've been about that when I rolled. Why was I halfway down the bed?

Medical staff who don't listen or think they know better than myself or doctors, don't bother reading medical notes etc.

I've had eczema since I was a baby, off and on. I've tried every cream on the market and everything makes it worse. Due to this I have been prescribed a strong steroid cream which, due to how well and how quickly it gets things under control, I dont actually use very much of, very often.

I moved 2 years ago and recently got round to changing doctors. My last tube is now out of date, I've had it about 5 years so not surprised.. my doctor has an online service where you can reach out for help, send pictures etc. Which I did. I explained about how this cream is the only one that works etc but was turned away and told to try an over the counter cream for a week and come back if it didn't work or made things worse.

2 days later, predictably, it's worse. Its sore, oozing and itchy as all hell and will now take even longer to get rid of.

I appreciate why they've got to be careful giving out strong steroid creams however this person is not a doctor and the fact that a doctor has seen fit to prescribe me this cream repeatedly over the last 8 years or so should be enough to take my word for it. Who is trying to get hold of strong steroids to mess up their skin on purpose? It's not like I'm trying to get hold of opiates or something!

After I reached out again today, they are still refusing to prescribe me the betnovate, brushing me off with a eumovate prescription which again, I've already tried and doesn't work!

That is just bonkers.

That is just bonkers.

Honestly I just can't understand it! I admit I lost my temper when I replied. They still refused the stronger cream as I've been prescribed eumovate in 2005! So that's what they want me to try. (It's almost like, exactly as I said, it doesn't work/made it worse so was moved onto the other cream!) And they've made me a face to face appointment for the 5th to discuss further after using the eumovate.

Honestly I'm so angry I just started laughing 🤣 an almost 20 year old prescription is apparently more valid than a 4 year old one, can't make it up.

...meanwhile my doctor took one look at me in June and prescribed a betnovate-based cream without an issue. Reminds me of when a hospital (a long, long time ago) refused to give me my prescribed tramadol unless I tried paracetamol first. No amount of attempting to explain this wasn't an option was getting me anywhere, so in the end I said fine, took the paracetamol like they demanded, the results weren't pretty, and the nurse who witnessed it was very blunt when telling the doctors to give me my own damn meds again, lol.

And at least I wasn't the one left cleaning that mess up.

Hey I tried working with them. It's not an allergy, but any form of the tablets makes me vomit (quite...spectacularly, in this case) so I offered to take the liquid instead. That was a no-go too, it absolutely had to be the tablets and I had to be absolutely sure they didn't work and they had to be absolutely sure I gave them enough of a chance to work before I could have my own meds.

That poor nurse. She wasn't happy with it, she did ask if I was certain but it was like gimme a sickbowl. If they want their proof I'll give them their proof. I don't know if it ever occurred to them to even ask my GP why I was prescribed tramadol (and not something else) before they decided I was malingering for opioids, but I'd be comfortable saying they never bothered.

Bonus bit was when I'd finally finished and was trying to get my breath back and she was like "are you okay?!" and I said yes and asked if she wanted the second tablet back because I'd only had the one. Even she laughed at that.

It's a pain, because I can't take paracetamol, I'm allergic to codeine, even tramadol has given me enough dodgy reactions I'll never be happy to take it again. Ibuprofen's iffy because I've had stomach ulcers. When I had the double mastectomy in June I got offered paracetamol or oxycodone, neither of which is brilliant as an option. They were at least decent about it and gave me back my gabapentin instead.

I've agreed to their terms because getting angry sets off my cptsd and I have only just started getting on top of that again after a really long bout of issues. But I will be reminding them of their "do no harm" vow when I turn up red and oozing on the 5th 🙃
But the amount of jobsworths is so frustrating. As if we hadn't thought of trying over the counter stuff first 🙄

It comes from an attitude of "well we must be your first port-of-call" even when it's rarely the case. It's like people snarling about "well I don't know why you asked for my help!" when all you did was point out you'd tried everything they suggested anyway.

"We haven't seen you try it, and we won't believe you til we do."

@Eriathwen @Lorcan I feel so sorry for you. Our GP has always been thankful that hubby has always been on top of his meds and condition that he always tell hubby "I wish all my patients are like you. You go in here, tell me what's wrong and then you tell me what you want. We don't have to do loads of guessing."

Anyway, hubby had bad health issues since Nov last year up to a few weeks ago, even ended up in A&E on November. We found out that one of his meds was not working for him anymore. He has zero reactive arthritis and his immune system always gets f'd up whenever the meds stop working. Anyway, he eventually figured it out and asked for new anti inflamatories from our gp. He was given it and was told to get back after a couple of weeks and see that it was working. It did work after a few tweaking of dosage etc. but there are still some tummy and bowel issues. Well a few weeks ago he eventually figured out himself it was lack of magnesium in his body. Hubby told all these to our gp. Gp told him that since that was what he figured out causing issues that to just see what taking magnesium tablets would do and that he'll put it on his record. Our gp has so much trust about hubby knowing how to handle everything because he has these health problems for 3 decades! He obviously understands that hubby has full grasp of what is wrong and what is working or not.

Also, gp really wanted hubby to see the consultant so that he can update them about his recent health issues. Last time hubby saw his consutant it was on 2018 and she told us that she was leaving the trust but she was getting annoyed that she can't get any replacement for her to train. So anyway, on 2021 during the pandemic, he only got a call from a locum consultant telling him that he needs to stop taking his meds because he's on it for a long time. Hubby told him if he stopped taking those meds then all his health issues will get worse and to read his very thick file of health history! In the end the consultant told him to just do what he does as usual and just talked to the gp. Well when hubby asked for an appointment from the hospital to be seen by a consultant two weeks ago, we found out from their response last week that he was discharged from the rheumatology that last time he talked to them on the phone! No reason why whatsoever! So when hubby told our gp, he was fuming how they are such idiots for doing that. GP even told hubby he wants to put "idiots" in the letter but being a professional he can't do it.

Hubby got a letter the other day from the rheumatology dept of the hospital that he's now in the waiting list. Great..he might be seen at around 2025 by the looks of it. 🙄😑

We got there in the end, fingers crossed he gets a lovely night's sleep so he doesn't have a miserable day tomorrow 🤞

I'm not aware of that policy in our nursery but then I wasn't aware of that as a thing in general - I did do drop off and handover with the same person, though, and she made no mention of any rules when she asked what kind of nap we could get away with if he did need. Quite happy to work within their policies but I can't if I don't know! I'll recheck our paperwork to make sure I haven't missed anything though, thanks for flagging :)

Have a chat/phone call with someone and ask some questions, I'm sure they will be more than happy to help. I hope baby poggle is enjoying his nursery experience! 😊

Argh. I could smell something odd here in the study, thought it might've been last night's leftovers although it didn't smell right for that, but I couldn't find another culprit. Well, til I walked through the door into the hall to go feed the goblins and whoosh. Pot smell, straight to the face.

Now, I don't begrudge someone smoking pot, it doesn't bother me either way, but I'd love to know how the hell it's getting into the house. It's not coming in via the study or I'd've known what it was in the first place and it's the only room in the house with an open window. So if it's not coming via the window, where is it coming from?!

Do you have direct neighbours? It may be coming through the wall?

Our delightful drug dealing ex neighbours used to smoke it and it seemed to seep through the bricks somehow.

My next dour neighbour smokes outside, the smell used to creep through the old draughty window frames, it's stopped now. The really odd thing is that when they are cooking the smell comes through onto our landing. We have a gap between the houses, there is no window on the landing, we have searched the wall for any small holes but can't find any and anyway there is a cavity. I don't suppose we will ever know but I wish they would stop cooking cabbage, it makes me feel sick.

I've just been to the toilet and I think it's the air vent in the bathroom now. My bathroom doesn't have a window, so there's no other ventilation possible. If it's the vent I know which neighbour it is, and I'm not hugely bothered since I can close the bathroom door, but it's a nightmare when I can't work out where it's coming from. The way these houses are laid out I technically have 3-5 direct neighbours, so it also might be one of the other houses too.

It doesn't bother me if I know where it's coming from because I can block off doors or whatever if I need to. It's when I can't find the source that I get twitchy, don't want someone coming in here and thinking it's me's smoking it.

There is no mistaking that smell! You will have to do some detective work.

MEN! In particular my OH. I asked him on Saturday to clean the bathroom as it needed doing. Now that he is semi-retired he has extra time on his hands and to stop him from getting under my feet I'm encouraging him to do more around the house. His reply was "Why nobody's coming tomorrow!" I replied to him that just because nobody was arriving the next day it didn't mean the bathroom didn't need a clean. His reply? "It's OK I can't see the grot without my glasses on". Then he said he would do it. So I left it for him to do. Do I have a nice clean bathroom? Well .......Er ..... No! So that means I now have to add it to my ever growing list of jobs to do today. I can't do it tomorrow as we are collecting Son No 3 from Milton Keynes and Friday we are off in the Caravan for the weekend.

I feel your pain in so many ways! You have my sympathy.

You'll have to show Steven what a clean bathroom looks like and what products to use etc and hopefully he'll take note lol.

He hasn't done in the last 37 years! That's why I have to remind him and that doesn't work *sigh*

I have found that most men don't even see dirt or mess lol but hopefully you can work on him and teach him how a woman cleans.
I feel I should stand up for men 🤣My hubby cleans the bathrooms and I do the rest of the house. Feels like a fair trade to me. But he’s never once cleaned out the piggies 😥
