Hi all,

Womble is booked in for his date to get neutered on Friday 11th December.
I'm trying to be light hearted about it but I'm a little nervous. The vet seemed confident and said they had done loads.
The vet nurse told me she had worked there for 2 years and never seen any complications arise from it. So *knocks on wood* hopefully, everything will go smoothly.

The babies are 100% girls. The cavy savvy vet checked. I'm so glad I have kept them apart. I don't know whether they were with others before we got them, but they are both girls and we will see with time if they are pregnant or not but we're hoping they're not.

Hopefully in the new year all will have gone well and we will have a little mini herd started up. <3 After six weeks recovery of course.

I really hope Womble is ok. I'm glad he's none the wiser of this situation because he will not be happy with me....FB_IMG_1541673771517.jpg
Womble being my precious furry baby.

He will be very pleased with you after his 6 weeks wait.
I hope so. I am going to be anxious about it but the vet nurse said most of the time they barely know anything's been done and they're up and about and eating. Just a bit dopey from the asethetic.

All the best for beautiful Womble’s plum fairy visit! :D
My newbie Jasper had his last week, caused havoc at the vets afterwards(!), he said it really wasn’t that bad Womble, all worth it to get to live with a lovely lady very soon! (I was mega nervous too so hugs to your mum!)

Aww thanks. How is Jasper recovering? I hope is keeping well. 🐹 Can you show us a pic?

He was like it hadn’t happened to be honest, vet nurses were highly amused while he trashed his kennel and escaped when they checked he was walking ok! Sleepy later on bless him but other than pain relief afterwards no one would’ve guessed (well and the missing plums and shaved belly!). He’s 2 and a bit so age on his side too!
I didn’t/haven’t taken any pics of his bits if that’s what you mean, had his check up weds and all looking good though!
This is the night we got home after op (after travelling on trains and in taxis!), wasn’t fazed at all, definitely forgave me for chopping them off bless him!

Well I think so, those eyes tell a different story!

None of my string of neutered boars has ever rued the op allowing them to live the happiest of boar lives and realising every boar's greatest ambition - to live with sows.

I've currently got 9 'husboars', two of which I had done myself; the rest were already neutered upon adoption.

Womble is a stunning boar. My Carys is the current incarnation of my string of white and lilac long-haired perus or coronets.

Yes my other four boys were rescues and neutered, Jasper’s been my first piggy neuter! Pedro the chin and my two ratties didn’t cope anywhere near as amazingly as him after the ops! Why I was very nervous but all went great!
Womble really is stunning!

I see you also have a boar with attitude. When I took Womble with Stripe for his appointment as he was quite poorly and stressed. The vet said afterwards "That other one has an attutide on him, doesn't he?" And it made me smile despite the seriousness of Stripe's condition because regardless of everything that was happening it was nice to see Womble was still being Womble.

I love your boy. So cute. Womble also gives me side eye. You know one of those pics it looks like he's wearing one of those kid caps with a helicopter propellers on top from the cartoons.

Thank you so much for your reassure and sharing your experience. It helps to know what I can expect.

It's reasurring to hear that so many of your boars have gone through the same procedure. It puts my mind at ease at little.
I hope it all goes ok for him.

Since Stripe died of stones and Womble is having the occasional cloudy wee I thought we would get a scan done at the same time to rule it out for reassurance and the vet agreed since they were likely genetically related and his wee wasn't massively cloudy but a bit.

Your pigs are beautiful too. I love Peruvians and Coronets. I haven't had an Aby yet but I think they're my favourite looking breed. My favourite personality of guinea pig so far has been Womble the sass face. <3 I also loved Stripe my gentle little soul who pretended he was boss pig attempting to throw his weight around/rumble strut and Womble sort of gave him this "whatever, get out of my way" look.

Womble doesn't need to rumble strut. He just is. Its been quiet with out Stripe's inquisitive squeaks, chatters and chuts.

I hope when they all get together things will get more active. Although the babies do have their mad half hours and enjoy chattering around at floor time.

I hope one day I can have the space to have a herd of six or so. :) I love to hear about the unique characters in everyone's herds and pairs.

Micah was neutered and has been an ecstatically happy husboar since last August.
He was neutered just before we moved house so I could use the vets I knew & trusted.
This meant he was only just recovering when we moved .
I'm so happy to hear he was alright and everything went well. You want the best for your guinea kids, which is why I chose a vet 30 mins away which were specialists and not my regular vet who deal more in routine stuff. Is he enjoying his female company? 🐹💏

Ted was neutered at 5 years old, he managed really well. I know it’s a worry and you will be relieved when it’s done but I’m sure Womble will have a fab time once he’s in with the ladies x

this makes me feel better about my boys! They’re just over a year old now and thought I’d left it too late! :)

Thanks for your reassurance. It's nice to hear about other owner's (piggy slaves) experience. I hope Ted is doing ok. I absolutely love the name of your rescue. 😁

Womble's 3-4 years old. I think certain vets won't do after a year or 1.5 years. I went to an exotic/piggy specialist vet and they sedate guinea pigs all the time so it seems routine to them. Are you gettingyour boars done. In all honesty I questioned whether we should get then done as soon as we got them but my fiancé asked why and I cited the situation we are in now and he said that will never happen but here we are!

No it’s not my rescue, just a coincidence that Ted has dental issues and goes to the same vet and @furryfriends (TEAS) who runs the rescue 😁 Debbie does an amazing job and did board Ted in the first lockdown so he could be near his vet

Awww womble! That’s lovely that you have an exotic vet, ours seemed pretty confident with our boys but I couldn’t actually do it at the time because one of them got poorly and haven’t had time since unfortunately :( it’s something we will get done soon I think :)

I'm sorry to hear your guinea kids weren't well. ❤ I hope your plum fairy experience goes well too. 🙂👍

It's an amazing coincidence! I think I made a logical connect or disconnect as it were. That was nice of them to board Ted. :)

I've had another 9 neutered boars before that, going back to the 80ies with my very first own piggy being a neutered peru boar.
Our first family piggies were all perus; that is why I have such a soft spot for them although I love all my piggies, whatever the breed or often breed mix. they have all got their individual personality. I have some 'strings' of piggies down several generations that keep some happy memories alive although I am careful never to get a spitting look-alike; that would be unfair emotional baggage and expectations for the successor. While I also love abys very much (they are either bursting with abitude or are very gentle), I also love grumpy teddies and white-nosed ginger cresteds. Cresteds are on the whole a good breed for a group; they are the most 'down to earth and get on with it' piggies in my experience - and when you want to build up a group, NOT having a firework of all big personalities is a distinct advantage!

You can find some of the predecessors of my Carys and other piggies in my Tribe thread: Wiebke's Tribe - Sows and the City Boars
