Unfortunately, Begw's 'Little Pearl' (Peggy) already advanced arthritis has made a massive jump forward while I was in hospital. I am very grateful that she has continued to just about hang on in there while my poor hub tried his very best to cope with my piggies but in my heart of hearts the welfare balance was no longer there for her and it was no longer recoverable under the circumstances.
Begw has passed her 6th birthday while I have been away so unexpectedly. I never expected her to live for so long and am proud that she has spent most of that time living a very happy, stable Tribe life.
She was an emergency intake after a 'no longer wanted 8 weeks old baby boy' was unceremoniously shoved at rescue volunteers through the front door of a smoke infested house. Only that the 8 weeks old wasn't even the weight of an average 3 weeks old and that the baby was a girl - and none of the volunteers had sow space.
Since my neutered Dylan had just parted ways with teenage Llelo, she was tracked to the Tribe and arrived at 210g to spend her quarantine and then her with a delighted but gentle Dylan. Their bonding video is in our bonding guide.
Their's was one of those life-long daddy boar/wifelet love bonds that lasted until Dylan passed away, aged 6, in October 2022. Since my little Pearl never grew large, I accept the 8 weeks' age.
Beti had joined the pair by then so Begw was with a caring sowmate; they both ended up with Brangwyn as their new hub and were this year temporarily joined by my oldies widows Heilin and Carys. The three sows became best of friends and were ever so supportive of each other.
Begw is now reunited with all of them. Since I was lucky to have the head vet who prefers injections, she could ever so gently make her journey to the Bridge in my arms, carried by my love all the way through.
