Wiebke's Tribe: Sows and the City Boars

Happy Birthday girls!

Goodness, Lleian and Llinos are 3, it only seems like last year they came to you.

6 & 3 😳?! How did that happen? Dori and Meg Wheek them all a happy birthday and are wondering if there may possibly be any carrot treats left 😊

It was so heart-warming to see Maelona's mum Manon play tag with 5 year old Macsen the other week in order to reaffirm their bond at the end of their grieving period.
They have started to hang out together more and Manon is actually coming out of herself quite a bit more and is discovering her more playful side. She is one of my persisitently skittish piggies (not surprising with her awful background).

Just to say that Brangwyn 'White Raven' on the left and his widows harem have all made it through the summer. Carys and Begw are very arthritic and frail now; but Carys 'Love' has already turned 6 years and Begw 'Little Pearl (Peggy)' is going to this celebrate this landmark, which I never expected her to reach, in less than a month. Black Beti (Betty) is now four years old. She has calmed down a lot and is turning into a bit of a couch potato.

After Maelona's unexpected early death has thrown my careful plans in the air, I tried to bond her rather fear-aggressive also 3 years old mother Manon 'Queen' and her now 5 years old hub Macsen 'The Greatest' with their neighbours (also somewhat fear aggressive 5 years old Dryw 'Wren' and her 3 years old sidekicks Llinos 'Linnet' and Lleian 'Smew' after a chance encounter on the roming floor didn't develop into an immediate diplomatic crisis.

Having my two 5 year olds in the same group would have made things a lot easier for me but not quite unexpectedly, Manon took a defence flying tackle at Dryw and shocked herself as much as Dryw. Poor Macsen (who is a rather sensitive soul) got stressed out with all sows, so I decided to call it a day as the tension was not coming down although Manon signalled repeatedly that she wanted to be friends. There was no real aggression in it.
But at least I now know that Manon is likely to accept my runty cousins Llinos and Lleian so I have a new longer term companionship option for her. :)

I have sadly lost my Carys 'Love' not long after her 6th adoption anniversary right in the middle of our big forum revamp, so I had to rather shove my feelings onto the back burner for a few days. I am still missing her badly. She was the most delightful baby; a gentle, friendly social enabler who has got on with everypig and whose life has touched many Tribe piggies as she has been an integral part of the big Tribe changeover between 2021-23 when I lost most of my pre-pandemic piggies and moved back from mainly pairs back to mainly small groups.

Here is her full tribute from the Rainbow section with plenty more pictures.

So sorry Wiebke, I’ve only just seen this. She was a beautiful and greatly loved little lady. I hope you are doing ok x

Unfortunately, Begw's 'Little Pearl' (Peggy) already advanced arthritis has made a massive jump forward while I was in hospital. I am very grateful that she has continued to just about hang on in there while my poor hub tried his very best to cope with my piggies but in my heart of hearts the welfare balance was no longer there for her and it was no longer recoverable under the circumstances.

Begw has passed her 6th birthday while I have been away so unexpectedly. I never expected her to live for so long and am proud that she has spent most of that time living a very happy, stable Tribe life.

She was an emergency intake after a 'no longer wanted 8 weeks old baby boy' was unceremoniously shoved at rescue volunteers through the front door of a smoke infested house. Only that the 8 weeks old wasn't even the weight of an average 3 weeks old and that the baby was a girl - and none of the volunteers had sow space.
Since my neutered Dylan had just parted ways with teenage Llelo, she was tracked to the Tribe and arrived at 210g to spend her quarantine and then her with a delighted but gentle Dylan. Their bonding video is in our bonding guide.

Their's was one of those life-long daddy boar/wifelet love bonds that lasted until Dylan passed away, aged 6, in October 2022. Since my little Pearl never grew large, I accept the 8 weeks' age.

Beti had joined the pair by then so Begw was with a caring sowmate; they both ended up with Brangwyn as their new hub and were this year temporarily joined by my oldies widows Heilin and Carys. The three sows became best of friends and were ever so supportive of each other.

Begw is now reunited with all of them. Since I was lucky to have the head vet who prefers injections, she could ever so gently make her journey to the Bridge in my arms, carried by my love all the way through.

I am so sorry that you have had to say goodbye to Begw 😞 she lived a long and happy life filled with love with you and her friends and she lived to a fantastic age.

She was a beautiful piggy and I can remember when she first came home to you. What a lucky girl she was

Take good care of yourself as you grieve for your beautiful Pearl ❤️ I am glad that she fell asleep in your arms and you got to spend those last moments together as she crossed the rainbow bridge

Sleep tight pretty little Begw, have fun at the bridge with your friends and watch over your mummy who is missing you very much xx
