Truffle and Polo

Sadly the boys are not that compatible at the moment. Luckily I am on leave and can try to help them. They haven't actually fought, so I am hoping to reintegrate them in due course. I will consult all the great guidance on this forum and keep the thread posted of developments. The main problem currently (until more come along, that is) is bar biting.
Increase the space as much as you can, I have. 5 boars living happily together, they're not all besties but they don't fight! But they're yard is like 8m x 10m, and i have three hides per pigs... so 15 😅😂 10 water stations and I supervise fruit and veg feeding 2/3 times daily. Mainly coz I just love feeding them but also so they can feed close together and I can supervise.
In the mean time, get them out one at time and bond with them yourself individually and give the other one a short break to have the cage space to themselves?

You are lucky, it must be fascinating to see how boars behave in such a big all boar group. My cage is an L shaped 6x2' Kavee cage. I would like to move the bars forward and turn the L into a rectangle, but will need an extra Correx floor. Currently they are in separate parts of the cage, but if I remove the divider, I will take away any dead ends like single entrance hides and distribute the food and hay to avoid food guarding. They were getting on really nicely. I wonder if my being on holiday have affected the dynamics. It did develop over several days though.

It is very fascinating, especially when the two older ones turn around and accidentally face each other... they chatter a little bit, then bith bounce off in different directions, all their hides have multiple entries. I met someone with 20 boars all together... that would be incredible!

Kavee acrylic panels on the way! I'm hoping they will prevent bar biting and let the boys see each other and get some sense of social stimulation. I'm taking them out for supervised individual exercise when I can (every day really) as they need a bit more activity to keep healthy and eat well, to have enough appetite to get max nutrient intake. It may be, I really hope, they can get back together when Summer is waning and Trufflie is less prey to his hormones 🤞❤️. The extra panels as should allow for a slight increase in cage space too.

A shy little smile from Trufflie!

So the Kavee perspex panels are up. The piggies can chew the edges, but if I put their houses in front of the gap between the panels, it should prevent them from reaching the edges and bar biting.

Perspex up with cardboard to chew so my little boars don't chew on the edges of the small gap between the panels. Putting a hide in front of the gap works well. Truffle tries to chew the perspex in the middle of the panel, but can't grip it fortunately. I thought the outlay for the perspex would be cheaper than vet's bills for a dental from bar biting. I wonder if they will mellow in Autumn and get together again.

Polo and Truffle meet the toys. There is a bit of power grooming and ear nibbling going on. I took the more fluffy toy away from Trufflie for now in case he swallows too much fake fur. He seemed to be pulling the toy's fur out eagerly.

Polo brought his toys some hay, carrying it on his head, and built a nest to keep them warm and safe ❤️
