I haven't taken Duck to the vet, he hates it and I don't think it will help. He seems to be spooked rather than ill, he is afraid of the back of his cage. I gave him a thorough health check on Tuesday and could find nothing wrong, he is having daily weight checks and is gaining, presumably because he's not moving around much. He stands at the bars on his back legs and begs for food, he wouldn't do that if in pain. I've had him on white vet bed, there's no pink urine stains. My neighbour told me while I was away last week fireworks went off often day and evening. There was a very loud house vibrating rave on Saturday all night until 10am Sunday. The people are having a house built in the garden at the back of us and the diggers were very noisy. Maybe Duck has been spooked by one or a combination of all this. I have given him a double layer of my thickest fleece cage liners in case he is feeling vibrations through the floor and vet bed in the corner he lies in as one of his back feet is red, a bit alarming in a piggy with very black feet! I have started moving him to the middle of the cage, he stands and stares at the back and cranes his head forward to have a good look and then turns to run back to his corner. We have moved the cage and checked around it to make sure there are no big spiders or anything scary. This morning I have put his favourite hay in his hay box away from his corner and no hay where he can reach it, he has crept over to the box and is now asleep in it, small steps!
If anyone has any insights, experience or suggestions I'd be grateful. I feel it is probably a case of gently coaxing him to move and giving him lots of time to gain confidence again but it's so sad to see him like this.
As I finished typing this he has just walked across to his water bottle and done a little popcorn at Bertie in the cage next door.
