The Pigglingtons

Brillo's breathing has been sounding better since yesterday afternoon. I didn't nebulise him this afternoon and have packed the nebuliser back in it's bag. Putting it away in the cupboard though feels like tempting fate. I have a feeling we will be living with it out in the living room for a few days.

Fuzz has been dominant over Fizz today, there's been quite a bit of leave me alone I'm not challenging you squeals from Fizz. Fuzz does seem to be developmentally more advanced!

Glad to hear Brillo is on the mend ❤️‍🩹

I hope the nebuliser stays packed away for a long time. I still have mine close at hand even though I haven’t needed it for many, many months.

I hadn't used it for such a long time I set it up wrong to start with! It's one of those things I always hope I will never need again but I'm very glad I've got it. Fingers crossed you don't need yours again.

The boys had health checks today.
Red has broken off half of one of his top incisors. For 6 years I've been telling him to stop biting the bars because he will break his teeth, there was no need to prove me right!
Brillo has soft poop, not a great shape or size either. No veg for him!
Ducky was squeaky weeing this morning, found a sperm rod so hopefully he's sorted, not heard him since.
One of Freddie's nostrils looked a bit odd, wiped it and some hay came out, hope that's it and he's not getting an infection.
I have plans to go away on Monday, the trip that was cancelled in September and again in early October.
Will be watching them all closely tomorrow and deciding if I can leave them first thing on Monday morning. If I have to I will cancel again.
If there was a problem I can get back in a couple of hours.
Guinea pigs, who in their right mind would have them!

I know who would have ‘them. Hope everyone is ok so you can get away. Didn’t know if to laugh or cry emoji. I always feel uneasy just before any planned trip because I know if they are going to be ill it’s more than likely when we are about to go away… Sod’s Law!

It sounds like a collective effort to stress you out!
I'd like to think they don't want me to go but I'm always assured by my OH that they love me being away. They get some sows in and party every night. Dinner is pizza and chips followed by treacle pudding and ice cream!

Maybe it's something to do with the full moon. I don't think I've ever had so may incidences at once! Bertie has had boar glue on his nose for several days, just noticed he's got it off and left a bald spot. The skin looks a little bit sore but not too bad, hopefully it will have calmed down tomorrow. Only Bertie could prise it off like that!

I felt really guilty last night when the other's got their veg and I missed out Brillo, that little expectant face. Dried forage wasn't accepted quite the same. Poops have improved today so by tomorrow he should be back to his normal, due to his health problems not quite normal piggy normal anyway.
Duck and Freddie seem okay today and I won't know how Red's lower incisor is going to wear, whether he needs a trip to the vet will become apparent by the time I get back. OH will keep an eye on his eating and take him sooner if he's worried.
Now I'm over the shock of yesterday's health checks looks like the party can begin tomorrow night!

After a wonderful week of sunshine and showers, walks in the country side, no internet, news or budget scare mongering I'm back on piggie patrol!
Red's broken tooth only has 1mm to go to be level with the other one, the bottom ones have worn equally. :yahoo: I knew teeth grew quickly but I'm surprised how quickly the broken one has grown back.
Brillo is looking well again.
Sadly Duck seems under the weather, sitting in one spot in his cage. Excited over food and still eating, no weight loss, drinking well, teeth look okay, breathing sounds good, nothing obvious going on but not himself. Unless he's running around as normal in the morning I will be phoning the vets for an appointment to get him checked. He was apparently okay until today.

I haven't taken Duck to the vet, he hates it and I don't think it will help. He seems to be spooked rather than ill, he is afraid of the back of his cage. I gave him a thorough health check on Tuesday and could find nothing wrong, he is having daily weight checks and is gaining, presumably because he's not moving around much. He stands at the bars on his back legs and begs for food, he wouldn't do that if in pain. I've had him on white vet bed, there's no pink urine stains. My neighbour told me while I was away last week fireworks went off often day and evening. There was a very loud house vibrating rave on Saturday all night until 10am Sunday. The people are having a house built in the garden at the back of us and the diggers were very noisy. Maybe Duck has been spooked by one or a combination of all this. I have given him a double layer of my thickest fleece cage liners in case he is feeling vibrations through the floor and vet bed in the corner he lies in as one of his back feet is red, a bit alarming in a piggy with very black feet! I have started moving him to the middle of the cage, he stands and stares at the back and cranes his head forward to have a good look and then turns to run back to his corner. We have moved the cage and checked around it to make sure there are no big spiders or anything scary. This morning I have put his favourite hay in his hay box away from his corner and no hay where he can reach it, he has crept over to the box and is now asleep in it, small steps!
If anyone has any insights, experience or suggestions I'd be grateful. I feel it is probably a case of gently coaxing him to move and giving him lots of time to gain confidence again but it's so sad to see him like this.
As I finished typing this he has just walked across to his water bottle and done a little popcorn at Bertie in the cage next door.

Calming herbs helped when I got a new roof.

Poor Duck, I hope he regains his confidence soon.

No advice sorry, our boys have occasionally been spooked by an area of their cage, I can’t really remember how we overcame it. I think it was just encouragement like you are doing and changing the layout a little.

Poor little man, sounds like it’s been all too much for him. people are so inconsiderate aren’t they

Duck is moving around a little bit more, he is using a space about 2x2 grids. He sleeps in the open in the middle of this patch so hopefully his confidence will come back bit by bit. Sadly the people over the road have just had scaffolding put up, it looks like their roof is about to come off, not a quiet occurrence! I'd move him and Bertie down to the bottom of the garden into the shed like I did with them all when our roof was done but that will put them next to the noisy cement mixer.

All the boys had health checks today, a few minor things have turned up but nothing too alarming.
Bertie has now lost a chunk of front incisor! Hope it grows back as easily and well as Red's did. Red has used up all the spare Perspex sheets so looks like I may have to buy more. Bertie and Duck have taken over the hurry up with the veg bar biting.
Duck's still not using the back of his cage but he is using a space around 3x2 grids so that's an improvement, I'll never know what his problem is so I'll stop worrying about it.
Fizz and Fuzz are gaining weight nicely.
I can't get the smell of Freddie's very dirty perineal sack out of my nose.
Timmy's had a hair cut, he can now see where he's going and he's lost his pee pants.
What an exciting life I lead!

Oh that’s awakened a smell memory I thought I had forgotten! Gross!
