The Bradshaw Family

So summer has been crazy so far!

As you will have all seen on my other post, Koda has a new sister! Peggy 💙💛

We were supposed to be on holiday this week, but last week Woody went lame 🥲
After doing so well and building him back up with his training, he wasn’t quite right. We were ready for our August competitions too, so disappointing.

Vet scans and assessment later, and he has a swollen annular ligament. Really not ideal amongst his other issues going on!
Vet thinks he will recover from it, but I have to go right back to light exercise again for a couple of months.

I do worry about his future. He is older and has had quite the athletic career. He has a home for life with us and will have a happy retirement when that day comes (hopefully not yet 🤞🏻), not sure what I will do about retiring from the sport though 😔 I’ve been looking at other horses, they are so expensive at the moment! Will just have to see what happens.

The Olympics were fantastic, all of our equestrian teams (dressage, eventing and show jumping) did us so proud 🌟🌟🌟 not sure if anyone managed to watch any of it?

Back to work in a couple of weeks for me. It’s been lovely to have a few weeks off over summer. Just a shame we didn’t get our holiday with the dogs!

Hope everyone else is well?

Apparently there’s another heatwave coming next week?

Oh so sorry to hear about Woody. The ups and downs of horse ownership can be immense can’t they? Hopefully you don’t need to rush into a decision. I have found that things often have a way of turning out better than imagined.

Thank you. I do hope so 🤞🏻 I hope we can get to some dressage by the end of the year
Hope you’re well

Mum time for child number 1. And a trip to the shop so he could choose whatever he likes 💙💙💙

Child number 2 thinks he’s hilarious! Rolling in mud after it’s rained, I’m sure he gets that dirty just to spite me! 😂🧡🧡

Child number 3 has settled in very well indeed! 💛💛💛

Woody is continuing our strict exercise again, until he gets signed off by the vet. Farrier is also due tomorrow, so we are having a change of supportive shoeing again. Plus he has the physio this week, and dentist at the start of September 💰💰💰 (huge apologies to my bank account)!

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend!

Woody is still on his second round of rehab, but does finish his course of cartrophen injections next week 🤞🏻 riding him only in walk is getting tricky, as the autumn grass is shooting up and his energy is most definitely shooting up too. He really is a horse that thrives in constant work, so rehab and taking it easy, is never straight forward. I’m dreading retirement day, not sure how he will cope. Hopefully we have some competitive years left yet 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Still thinking about another horse at some point, but the market is still a bit crazy. Been quoted £45k for a young 5 year old with limited competition experience! I’d be too scared to turn it out, without bubble wrapping first 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Koda and Peggy are having lots of fun. Peggy is growing rapidly. She is easily going to be Koda size, if not slightly bigger. She’s all leg at the moment!

I’m back to work now, a few weeks of summer holiday flew by! 😔

Dan and I are very much still searching for an equestrian/farm property to develop for our business. We are hoping to build another livery yard and therapeutic riding centre (but not rented this time, as I don’t want to lose out again, would rather buy our own). We aww just waiting for the right property to come along, we don’t mind a project! Will keep letting our current house increase in value for now until the right time and right property comes along.

Dan’s busy with the business too, so can’t complain. Though I don’t want him to be doing the landscaping forever, it really does take a toll on his body.

So as always, it’s all go go go here.
How is everyone?

Gorgeous animals.
Glad Woody is doing well - he’s so lovely.
Are you coming to the Potteries Christmas fair in November and bringing both dogs ?

We’re getting settled into our new home.
We’re at the stage of putting things away in different places and I stand in the kitchen trying to work out where the blender is, or the measuring jug is 😁
So far retirement has felt like a lovely long holiday but I’m getting ready for work again so looking for options.
I’ve signed up to help at a food bank so we’ll see how that goes.
Husband still working to keep me in the style I want to be accustomed to 😁

We would love to pop over to the Potteries with both dogs. Will be lovely to see everyone 😊

So pleased you’re now settling in. Moving home can be such a stressful experience.

Hope it goes well at the food bank, keep us posted!

😂 Dan can fully sympathise, especially with me looking for a second horse…….. but happy wife and all.. 😂

Updates from the kids:

Woody had a bit of mud fever (early this year.. 🤦🏻‍♀️), but it was from his turnout boots getting a bit damp when we had the heavy rain, plus that part of his leg is clipped from when he had his scan, so the pink skin was a bit sore. But he’s all back to normal now. So we can continue rehab 😊
