The Adventures of Popchop and Fuzzable

The big day has finally come!

About an hour and a half in and things are looking really good. The first 15 minutes or so was a bit fraught, with hackles, chattering, the whole bit. But then, much to our surprise, Popchop backed down!

Since then they have been negotiating boundaries. Fuzzable is on top of the world. Popchop was looking pretty unhappy for a while, but has now cheered right up and there is lots of popcorning and zooming around.

We will give it another few hours to be sure, but it looks like our boys are back together!

It's such a relief.
I don't know what made the most difference: neutering, or growing up a bit. But they both seemed to have learned manners. Previously they didn't go through proper stages of dominance behaviour at all, they just went pretty much straight to chattering and then escalated to violence.

Now we're seeing all the proper behaviours, including nose-to-nose challenges, which we never saw before. So they're managing to communicate and sort out their differences in a peaceful way.

I always had a feeling that their problems were not down to a personality clash, and I think I was right. I think it was down to lack of proper etiquette and communication skills.

The boys are very sweet together, it's hard to imagine they ever fought! Popchop is deliberately annoying (earlier on I saw him jump out of the hammock directly into Fuzzable's face), but Fuzzable bears it with dignity.

Spent some time souping up their cage today, here's a tour! Featuring Fuzzable's impressive baritone rumble and graceful strut.

What cuties; I love the cage tour! :luv:

Just realised it's a while since we had an update. The boys have been pretty busy, taking driving lessons:

They wish everyone a good day, and hope that you are having as interesting a time as they have been having.

Weigh-in day, and good grief.
They are both battling for the title. This time Popchop was heavier, last time Fuzzable, the time before that Popchop, the time before that Fuzzable.

To be clear, nobody has been LOSING weight.

Nearly 5 weeks after reseeding, the guinea pig garden is ready for a proper tryout!

And they are loving it.
Most of the grass you can see here is existing growth, in case you thought I had magically fast-growing grass seed!

They were hesitant at first, but now they've explored nearly the whole thing, including the secret tunnel (which Popchop is sticking his head out of here - it goes right through the hill and comes out at the back). The only thing they haven't fully explored is the castle on the crag.
