Surgery for Bladder stone in urethra

1 ml twice a day from 0.23 twice a day but she still seems in pain, she keeps going to nibble veggies but then stops. I really hope she improves. I’ve got another appointment on Wednesday with the vet I usually see and who did her surgery so maybe they will prescribe me the dog strength 🤞
I hope so, it was a backward to step by the veterinary association in my opinion and does piggies a disservice

My old vet always gave dog metacam, said cat was a waste of time and money
Honestly I’ve practically begged twice now for the dog strength to give her a chance. I wish I knew how much I could give her or the cat to ease her pain, the vet said it’s my discretion but I’ve no idea!

It's your discretion how much you give? Does she have antibiotics now?

Yeah she said if I feel like the 1ml twice a day isn’t enough then I can up it, I don’t think she knew much about Guinea pigs but I had no option as to see her as my regular exotic vet is off till Wednesday. Yes she had a antibiotic injection and some prescribed baytril

That makes it very difficult not giving you a safe amount. Different vets have different opinions on what is safe. There is a common range like my vet gives but I know some give more.
Hopefully the antibiotics will help- if she has an infection it could be massively contributing to her feeling unwell and in pain.

Do they enjoy the cat metacam as much as the dog one? Hopefully yes as that makes upping the dose easier.

She loved the cat Metacam before the surgery now I have to force that too, I’m trying to too but I’m so emotional and losing hope 😩 I’m so exhausted
It is so exhausting looking after such an ill piggie. Sending you hugs xx

Try get a little sleep if you can. None of us are vets here so can’t offer a dosage but you can certainly up the cat metacam dosage

I’ve been trying to sleep in between feeds but there’s always something to do 🤦🏽‍♀️ maybe good news she has just eaten two lettuce leafs and has lay down in a comfy position to sleep!

Sending you really big hugs! You're doing the right thing. I've been in your exact situation before. If you think she needs dog loxicom and at a stronger dose, then I encourage you to be firm with the vet on your decision. It sounds like they might give it to you if you confirm that you understand the risk. You don't have anything to lose by trying if she's struggling.

In case it helps, my Jasmine who was about 1kg was on 0.4ml of dog loxicom twice a day for a year or so with no ill effects. Jynx is currently on 0.53ml of dog loxicom twice a day and she's about 850g - but this is a high dose long-term; she's currently recovering from a spay, cystitis, and an abscess! Jasmine was also on 0.6ml of dog loxicom twice a day for 2 weeks post-surgery before it was dropped back to 0.4ml.

As cat loxicom is a third of the strength, you're very unlikely to overdose her if you up it by several ml.

Also sorry for the constant questions and worrying x
Never worry about that, we are all here to support you. Many of us have been in the same position with various piggies illnesses. We all understand what it’s like and that horrible rollercoaster you are on. Hopefully your vet can will help on Wednesday 🤞

Your family member that you love dearly is sick. It's completely understandable to need support. Not everyone in our world understands just how much we love our pigs so being able to talk to others that get it has been very helpful for me.

I hope you and cherry are both doing ok, it’s such a difficult and exhausting position to be in and you’re doing your very best and you are clearly an extremely caring person. Take care.

Thankyou all for your kind comments and help just to update, cherry has eaten a slice cucumber, a pepper and a small piece of lettuce with her critical care this morning. Her weight has stayed the same and she has actually been out of her house and came begging for a snack! She is also eating hay! Not loads but she is trying, I’m hoping this is a step in the right direction, she is still squeaking when she wees but we are back at the vets tomorrow to hopefully get this pain sorted 🤞

That sounds like some really good progress 😊

Yayyyy this sounds like a huge improvement from how she was, hopefully she will continue to improve each day

Fingers crossed for her and well done to you both.

Great news, she is bound to be a bit tender when peeing but what encouraging news 🤞

Just catching up and what a positive update ❤️ It sounds like she’s heading in the right direction. All the best at the vets tomorrow oh and never apologise, almost everyone of us have been in your position and understand how tiring it is caring for a poorly piggy. You’re doing a great job with Cherry x

Cherry is refusing any critical care thrashing around, and running off. After I’ve tried with the syringe she will run off and then try and poo ( very painfully) ive weighed her again this morning and she has lost another 25g. She will eat some grass and nibble some hay, she is very uncomfortable when she poops and she has hardly pooped since surgery, honestly it’s been like a rollercoaster of her seeming to improve slightly then decline. ☹️

Before surgery she weighed 1200g
Two days after surgery (Sunday) she weighed 1100g

Monday 1075g

Tuesday 1075g

Wednesday (today) 1050g

What a stressful situation, poor you and poor Cherry. I hope the vets can offer some advice and support today. Keep us posted.

I am very sorry about the constant up and down. It is so very stressful and exhausting. :(

The weight itself is nowhere near critical, if that is any consolation to you. You are doing a great job. All the best.
