Stubbins is suddenly ill

I linked it in at post #83
Their diet is hay based so if she is still eating hay, and/or youre still feeding her critical care, then she will get all the nutrition she needs. Don’t worry about the veggies.
Sorry I can’t remember if you are syringe feeding her much or just topping her up but continue to monitor her weight loss but it’s not a lot of loss over the course of week yet. If she can eat enough for herself, with top up syringe feeds or with your syringe feeding her lots if she isn’t eating, then her weight should stabilise. If she continues to lose then she isn’t eating enough and more syringing will be needed
Hi! :)
I called the vet back due to some confusion.
She doesn't want me syringe-feeding Stubbins due to it causing more diarrhea. She says that the diarrhea is causing Stubbins to lose water weight, which is dropping her weight overall. She wants us to start with the treatment plan, and hopefully, her weight will go back to normal.
Thank you for the link! :)

What is the treatment plan?
Is Stubbins eating at all for herself?

Yes.
She is definitely eating. She spends about as much time as her sisters munching on hay each day.
The treatment plan is the "poop soup" along with no veggies, for two weeks. If that does not seem to work, then we will have to have bloodwork done, which the vet is trying to avoid because they will have to put Stubbins under anesthesia.

Ok, as long as she is eating something then. I just couldn’t remember if she was eating at all or how much you were feeding her, so had a little moment over stopping syringing her altogether if she wasn’t eating for herself!
Keep us posted on how she gets on

Thank you so much! Your support really means a lot!
Sorry for repeating this question, but do you know how much/how often I am supposed to feed Stubbins the poop soup? Should I mix it with something? Maybe syringe it onto her Vitamin C tablet (which she loves)? :)

You just mix the poo with water... x

Just a few poops into a small amount of water, let it soak and then syringe the water to her. Just a ml or two.
You can do it a couple of times a day. I believe wiebke advises anywhere from 1-3 times per day is ok to do.

How is Stubbins doing?
Did you manage to get some poop soup into her?
You are so kind, thank you so much!
She is doing great today! I found her standing in her pellet bowl this morning, wheeking.
I decided to start "operation poop soup" this afternoon.
My plan is to start giving the piglets their veggies at around 3:00 in the afternoon instead of at nighttime.
Before I give the piggies their veggies, I will clean their room and make sure that there is no poop.
Then, I will take Stubbins with me to another room and keep her occupied. My one concern, though, is that she is very attached to Mo and Vani, and she often becomes super stressed even if I pick her up for a nail trim. She is also very attached to her veggies...
After the two piggies finish up, I will collect their poop, and then bring Stubbins back home.
I will use the poop I collect in the poop soup!

Please help. :(
Stubbins has lost an additional 14 grams since her vet visit two days ago.
That brings her total weight down by 70 grams since before her health complications began.
As you know, we were advised to feed poop soup and cut our veggies for two weeks. We were told not to syringe feed.
Part of me wants to trust the vet, but another part of me wakes up every morning and feels like crying because Stubbins is visibly smaller than just a month ago.
I really need help.
I am going to call the vet tomorrow.

I forgot to add that we have been giving her 1 mL of poop soup every night.
Should I give her more? I wasn’t really sure. :)

I believe between 1 and 3ml on the poop soup is fine

I do think you need to talk to your vet again though. She can’t keep losing weight, hence we’d advise you to syringe feed but I know your vet has said not to feed her (which I am confused about if I’m honest)

I am confused, as well.
The vet said that her weight loss is caused by added water loss due to her diarrhea, but this seems incorrect.
I am super stressed and just trying to get my little girl better. :(
I am afraid that we will have to find a third vet soon...

To me that doesn't make sense either. If I have a piggy that is losing weight, my first thought is to syringe feed.

I'm confused as to why your vet says don't syringe feed too...
You've been given some great advice but I want to offer my support. I really hope Stubbins starts to recover and fingers crossed the poo soup helps. When a piggy is ill it's hard not to stress so look after yourself ❤️

I called the vet's office and the vet was unavailable.
I spoke to the vet's assistant who then basically told me that she would relay the message to the vet, but that I would not be able to speak to her!?

Are they going to get back to you? Really annoying if you can’t speak directly to the vet.
I honestly don’t know what to suggest, I’m sorry it’s no help, but what you have been told goes against my instincts with a piggy who is losing weight.

That's not very helpful! 😟 Why were you calling the vets? It's Stubbins doing alright?
Stubbins is eating and her activity level is okay, but she has lost 70 grams over the course of fewer than two weeks.
The vet told me that it was water weight due to her diarrhea, but losing this much weight doesn't seem right. 😞

What she is saying goes against my instincts, as well. :(
I am a bit afraid to start feeding Critical Care, though, as last time we fed it to her, she had really bad diarrhea all night.
I'm afraid it's time to find a third vet...
