Stubbins is suddenly ill

There can be a fluctuation of up to 50g in a day. But if she is consistently losing weight daily then you do need to continue with syringe feeding. I don’t want to say for sure because I’m not experienced, but I don’t know that syringe feeding would cause diarrhoea. So if she has been losing the past couple of days then give her a feed now.

It’s good if she seems to be munching on hay but unfortunately you can’t tell by just looking if she’s actually eating enough.

URGENT:
I went to check on the piglets just now.
One of the piggies pooped blood. I am almost positive that it was Stubbins based on the fact that it is accompanied by diarrhea and my other piggies are in perfect health.
Please help me. I am so worried. I can't lose her...my pets mean everything to me. :(

Diarrhoea and blood are classed as an emergency. Please call your vets.

This is my first time trying to respond with an iPad. I apologize if anything is mis-typed.
Our vet’s office, that happens to be an emergency vet, as well, closed due to a staff member contracting the virus. Our regular veterinarian is so kind and knowledgeable about guinea pigs...I really miss being able to call our vet’s office.
We were referred by our veterinarian to see a specialist to help Stubbins with her ongoing diarrhea.
My plan was to call this specialist and tell them that we need to be seen as an emergency. (We have an appointment scheduled for a Monday morning).
I found out that they are not open 24/7, and are closed on Sunday’s.
I don’t know what to do. I really want to help Stubbins ASAP.
I didn’t give the piggies veggies tonight. It was originally just supposed to be Stubbins, but I imagine that she must already be stressed from being sick, and I did not want to separate her from her sisters.
My normal vet is accepting emails, but I will have to wait until morning. (I suppose it is already morning, though).
How can I help Stubbins? What if our Monday appointment is the soonest we can be seen by a vet?

Hi! :)
We took Stubbins to the vet this morning.
They are going to take a stool sample for testing and give her x-rays. If they cannot find anything on the x-rays that look concerning, they will have to put her under anesthesia to look at her teeth thoroughly and take x-rays of her skull.
Fingers crossed. :)

All the best! I am very sorry that the problems that come with the epidemic are not making things any easier!

Fingers crossed that you can get to the bottom of this!

We just got the results from the x-ray.
Nothing was abnormal.
We are going to take her home for now and wait for her test results to come back tomorrow.
If nothing shows up there, they will have to check her teeth and take a blood sample.
I really hope she gets better soon. :(

Thank you for your support! :)
Does anyone know how I can keep it warm in my bedroom?
The thermostat is always set to 71 degrees at nighttime, but I somehow find that my room is cold.
All of the other rooms in the house feel nice and warm, but mine is not necessarily cold, but cool.
My mom suggested getting a space heater for the piglets, but my dad told me that they are a fire danger.
Maybe there is a draft in my room. I have shutters, would it be a good idea to maybe get curtains?

Hi! :)
We got the results from the poop sample, and Stubbins does not have parasites.
We were advised by the vet to stop giving Stubbins veggies for two weeks.
We were also advised to feed Stubbins what the vet referred to as "night feces" from my other piggies. Can someone advise me on how to do this?
She said that they are globs of poop, but the trouble is, Stubbins in producing globs of poop all the time due to her diarrhea!
Help! 🤣

I think the vet means caecotrophs. They are the poops which the piggies take directly from their bottoms and eat. It’s the poops which go through their system for a second time. It would be rather hard to get caecotrophs from your other piggies because they will eat them before you stood a chance to get them.
You can do poop soup though, take fresh poops and soak in water and then feed the water to Stubbins. I’ll find you the link
There is a section in this link Probiotics, Recovery Foods And Vitamin C: Overview With Product Links

I definitely need help!
The vet was super kind and helpful, but she was also talking to me about it casually...as if I had done it before!

To be clear the fresh poops obviously need to come from your healthy piggies. Literally grab them from the cage floor as soon as they drop out.
The vet had mentioned that the regular poops wouldn't be sufficient enough for the severity of Stubbins' issues. What should I do?
I am super lost and stressed...I just want Stubbins to get better. 😔

Regular poops still contain the beneficial bacteria which will help her gut stabilise. The guide explains.
I would think it near impossible to get caecotrophs from your piggies though. They literally take them directly from their bottoms and eat them straight away, they never touch the ground so you don’t stand a chance

Do you know where I can find the guide (sorry to bother with so many questions)?
Also, how will Stubbins get enough nutrition without veggies for two weeks? I was advised to give her Vitamin C tablets, but what about the other beneficial vitamins that come from the consumption of vegetables?
In addition, the vet really didn't seem concerned about Stubbins' weight, which has gone down by 50 grams in the past week. If she doesn't see any concern, should I be concerned?

I linked it in at post #83
Their diet is hay based so if she is still eating hay, and/or youre still feeding her critical care, then she will get all the nutrition she needs. Don’t worry about the veggies.
Sorry I can’t remember if you are syringe feeding her much or just topping her up but continue to monitor her weight loss but it’s not a lot of loss over the course of week yet. If she can eat enough for herself, with top up syringe feeds or with your syringe feeding her lots if she isn’t eating, then her weight should stabilise. If she continues to lose then she isn’t eating enough and more syringing will be needed
