Spike - no diagnosis - difficult decisions

Oh gosh buddy, I am so very sorry. You really did all you could. You loved him so much he had such a loving life. Sending lots of love and healing vibes to Peanut also.

Please look after yourself x x

Spike was helped over Rainbow Bridge this morning, he needed his teeth burred. There were several other things going on and we felt it would be kindest to let him go.

Peanut has abcess, A very small one (size of a pea) it burst when the vet touched it. It's probably the reason he wasn't eating enough as it's at the side of his mouth. He's on pain relief and I'm to support feed him still to see how he is in a week. I'm to take the scab off as it forms and bathe with saline.

I am ever so sorry! You have certainly done your best for Spike!

Fingers very firmly crossed for Peanut! I reall feel for you!
My Dylan has a jaw abscess brewing but it is not yet come up enough to be treated, so we have to somehow get him through the holidays without needing a dental savvy vet during that time. After a very rough weekend, the zithromax is thankfully kicking in now and I hope that it will do the trick to suppress the abscess and allow Dylan to eat enough on his own to keep his weight and any dental overgrowth slowed down.

So sorry to hear about Spike, what a tough battle he fought but at least he's free of any pain and discomfort now in his forever sleep x

Thanks everyone for your good wishes. I shall put a tribute in the Rainbow Bridge section when I can bring myself to look through Spike's photo's. He as a very special little boar who deserves a special tribute. I can't quite believe he's gone yet.

Peanut has been eating almost non stop this afternoon so hopefully it was the abcess stopping him eating and there is nothing else brewing.

Sending healing vibes to Dylan @Wiebke and my very best wishes to you. I guessed you had a sick piggy as you were up late with me on the forum over the weekend! What a difficult year you have had with your piggies, I hope you can enjoy Christmas and Dylan gets well soon. Thank you so much for all your help and advice, it is very much appreciated and a comfort to know you are there for support if we need it.

I find it always amazing what an immediate difference a burst/lanced abscess makes - the horrible pain is gone in an instant!
Poor Dylan will have to live with his toothache until the new year; we can hopefully reduce it to a bearable level. He couldn't have chosen a much worse time of year with all the holidays coming up! :(

Oh no! I‘ve just seen this, I’m so sorry you’ve had to help Spike over the bridge x Sending you lots of hugs and wishing Peanut a speedy recovery
Sleep tight gorgeous little Spike x

I’m sorry Spike has to go. Take good care of yourself, and glad to hear Peanut is eating like a horse ❣️

Thank you @alpacasqeak . The hoomans are doing okay, keeping busy. I've spent the afternoon redesigning Caspy and Rusty's cage so that Peanut can move next door (possibly tomorrow) with a divider. Hopefully that will be acceptable to all piggies concerned, they love to see each other at floor time so fingers crossed. He's eating still but a bit picky and his weight has gone up today so moving in the right direction. He's refusing syringe feeding which the vet suggested for a week to build him back up so I'll probably leave that and see how his weight progresses. His abcess has dried up nicely so hopefully it won't refill, the scab is so tiny it's really hard to pick off. Luckily he loves Metacam so giving him that doesn't upset him!
