Spike - no diagnosis - difficult decisions

Sick piggies are such a roller coaster, after a good day yesterday he's not so bright today. He fought the syringe feed just now so at least there's still some fight in him. Hoping for a happier Spike later.

A much, much better day today. He ate well from the syringe and muched grass several times while on my lap. He still doesn't eat while in the cage and he won't eat hay but we are making progress. He stamped on my hand when I picked him up today, so he's still his fiesty self! He's also getting much better at going in the nebuliser box, he was fighting and making a fuss while being lowered in but he now goes in quite happily and lays down. When I go to get him out he has a real abytude look, if he could he'd have his arms folded. :))

Spike says thanks to everyone for their good wishes. He is still making funny squeeks when he is breathing but is trying to eat a little bit on his own. He's being very good taking his medicine and is enjoying being very spoilt. He would like everyone to see him in his new bed that arrived today, it's very cosy.

He certainly is a good looking chap. Hope he comes out of whatever is bothering him though.

c'mon Spike, plenty more grass to be munching on :tu: you need to give your slave a long run of more good days, it's good that you're being a good boy & doing your nebuliser treatment & taking meds too, please eat lots of hay (even if its only so that you can make a poop'y pile of mess in your splendid new bed).
Fingers & paws all crossed here for speedy recovery, the girls said can they have a signed pawprint of your photo, because you really are a handsome lad they're blowing you kisses in return ;) 💋

Spike is very up and down, just as I think he can't go on he perks up again. The vet did say this was going to be a long recovery if there was one, this is just so hard. This whole experience has completely knocked my confidence in making decisions for the boys, but I'm all they've got. Spike goes back to the vet for reassesment next week. I asked him on Monday if he wanted to carry on or if I should bring the appointment forward and have him helped over the bridge. I asked him if he could give me a sign that he was happy to carry on because I'm not sure if this is fair on him, when I put him back in the cage he popcorned inside a paper bag! Yesterday I gave him a long narrow box with the ends cut off, he ran in and out of it for ages with Peanut and then proceeded to chew it. Today he has been very quiet and withdrawn, didn't want his grass but did take his syringe feeds well this morning.

I’m so sorry @piggieminder, I completely missed poor Spike’s troubles when I wasn't on the forum for a little while, just caught up and what a nightmare you’ve both been having :( Sending hugs to you and him and Jess sends a few big kisses as he’s such a gorgeous lad (don't tell Luigi, but he says get well soon Spike) xx

Aw hugs for you and many healing wheeks and piggy kisses for Spike! Maybe his better days tire him out a bit, its like that for my old mum who is very bad with her breathing, a family sunday playing with her grandkids knocks her out and she sleeps most of the next day... as long as there are still some good days left for Spike he's probably good to keep going a bit yet, depending on how bad he feels on his bad days x

please don’t feel sad or less confident. I believe that in your heart you will know the right decision for your boy. So have faith ❣️
Healing (improving) wheeks for Spike

Spike was helped over Rainbow Bridge this morning, he needed his teeth burred. There were several other things going on and we felt it would be kindest to let him go.

Peanut has abcess, A very small one (size of a pea) it burst when the vet touched it. It's probably the reason he wasn't eating enough as it's at the side of his mouth. He's on pain relief and I'm to support feed him still to see how he is in a week. I'm to take the scab off as it forms and bathe with saline.

So sorry that you had to let Spike go. It might have been the best and the right choice but it doesn’t hurt any less.
You are such a loving slave, he had a great life.
Holding you in my heart
