I was able to reach the president of the rescue Sunday evening. Everything was arranged quickly and I was able to take Athena into the vet this morning. She was able to cross over peacefully over the rainbow bridge. I took Brownie with me so she could say goodbye to Athena. I plan on moving Brownie to be next door to Shadow and Oreo, but I will have to a major room rehaul for that to happen.

Athena, I miss you so much! Even though I only got to spend a short amount of time with you, thank you for letting me join you.

I am so sorry you had to make the dreaded decision but you did it out of love and she would have known how much you love her. Love doesn't and when they leave us, it hurts, but it will stay with you in your heart . Look after yourselves as you grieve.
