Pigging Out

We'll be taking Carson to the vet later. I found wounds on his back a couple of weeks ago. We were thinking it might be bite marks coz during those times, Bodie was constantly trying to hump him and we always saw him climbing Carson. But today when I checked it again, I notice some thining hair on his back right hip. Hopefully it's just a simple Ivermectin medication. Bryce used to have this on his back when we adopted him and a couple of doses of Ivermectin fixed it. At the moment, Carson is still his usual naughty self and not really scratching more than the usual.

We're going on holiday in 3 weeks and fingers crossed it's fixed by then! 🤦‍♀️😬

So we've just been to the vet. He admitted he didn't know much about guinea pigs so...

Well he said it looks more like some bite wounds. There is also one by his cheek that does look like a nip/bite. And by the hip as well where some hair thining. He said he can't seem to see any parasite crawling on him. And it does look inflamed but not infected. For the time being, he said give him metacam for a week and see if it does help with the inflamation. Then come back after a week if the problem persist. So we'll give that a go, and then we might take him to the other local vet for a second opinion. I asked him about giving Ivermectin and he said he can't see any reason to for now. (I'm honestly skeptical but okay, we'll see in a week)

I'm going to make an appointment to our other local vet on Monday. One of the wound on Carson's back, the scab got removed and no really trace of wound and it's a clear bald skin. Then there's a new skin breaking out and it's bleeding a bit, it's like when you split your skin on the fingers when it's too cold or been washing a lot. So it definitely skin condition issue. I know it's not from scratching coz we don't see him scratching much.

I took Carson to the other local vet we have. She said that Carson have mites. She combed his hair and there were mites on the white towel she put the hair that fell. So she gave him a pipette of Xeno 450. After 2 weeks, if the issue hasn't improved then we have to go back for another dose of Xeno 450. Although she was wondering whether the wound and scabs that Carson have on his back is related to the mites. So we are hoping the Xeno 450 would treat it as well if it is related.

I asked whether to give Ivermectin to Bodie as well. She said if we notice that Bodie is scratching a lot and have symptoms like Carson, then just bring him so they can prescribed him Ivermectin too. But so far, Bodie doesn't have any symptoms of mites.

I paid £30.80 for the consultation (Carson's first) and one pipette yesterday so I'm not sure how much it cost in our vets.

Yesterday, I noticed the same wound on Bodie's back. Like a hair has been pulled and it has some traces of blood, like when you accidentally scrape your skin. He doesn't seem to be hurt when I touched it. His hair is also great and I can't find any hair loss or like dandruff stuff or mites like Carson has. What I did find is sperm rod hanging from his bits, again. 🤦‍♀️👀 I've never had boars with sperm rods or boar glue in the past! Bodie is the first who always have these! 🙈

So hubby is more insistent that these wounds that the boys have are caused by their humping each other, either by their nails or teeth scraping the skin while one is on top of the other! You see I only ever had one boar and sows, or all sows. Hubby used to have boars before he met me. His past boars often would have ocassional scrapes and nips and bites whenever they are being rough with each other. This is according to him, so I don't really know.

My 3 little pigs.

5 year old Larry, who seems very old some days but most of the time is mischievous, energetic and is as excited about food as he was always was.

... Plus our 1 year & 4 months girls, Cheryl and Susie (all names from Curb Your Enthusiasm). We've had them since May. Blonde Cheryl is especially close to Larry. She has taken over as Chief Scamp, whilst Susie brings sass and acrobatics as well as flowing long fur.
