Phoebe has been to the vet this week. Twice.
On Monday morning she was clearly unwell so the vet fitted us in, at their main surgery, 6 miles away.
We saw Rob, head vet, practice owner and very good with piggies.
He could feel a swelling around her eye but without further tests he could only guess. We came home with Enrobactin and Loxicom.
We saw him today at our local surgery where she’s had a thorough examination under anaesthetic.
He checked her teeth - no dental issues.
He lanced the swelling just by her eye and apparently a lot of gunk came out. It’s still leaking which is good.
He said the bone is quite friable but can’t be 100% sure if it’s an abscess, an infection in the bone or possibly a mass. Only an MRI would show more clearly and that’s £1500.
She’s on Enrobactin and Loxicom for 2 weeks and we go back next week for another check.

I feel a lot better than I did on Monday when I thought I might lose her.
She is not quite her usual beautiful self, but she‘s eating and seems happy still.

Aww Pheobe, we are sorry you have had to go to the vets twice! I hope they treated you well! Paws crossed it is nothing to serious! ♥️♥️♥️

Poor little honey, that must be sore 😢 Hope the meds will work wonders and no panicky situations over the bank holidays.

Oh Heather - I’m so sorry that the lovely Phoebe isn’t her usual self and that you’ve had such a worrying week. Sending gentle hugs and healing vibes x

No - there’s nowhere to flush as the incision is barely a pin prick.
I will just keep it clean when I do her meds.

Oh bless her poor little ones, she's in the best hands. Sending lots of healing vibes!

So sorry to hear this. Phoebe is lucky to be with you as you are taking very good care of her.

Poor Phoebe. Percy and Pepper hope you are on the mend quickly and are sending lots of healing vibes your way. ❤️

Poor Phoebe, and poor you! That looks very uncomfortable. I hope the lancing and the medicine do the trick.

If the swelling comes back though, maybe your vet would be willing to try Zithromax as that is usually the best for abscesses and yukky pus-y things?

Sending lots of healing wheeks. Hopefully it’s just a cyst and nothing more. They do worry us but I’m glad she was seen quickly. She is still beautiful as always 😘

Poor beautiful Phoebe what has the vet done your face? Sending much love and many healing wheeks x

I thought I would mention that along with another that Debbie recommends when I see him again next week. Thanks

Oh no, poor Phoebe bless her, I’m so sorry she’s been unwell. I’m glad the vet was able to get lots of gunk out and it’s able to drain, she’s still just as beautiful with her little special shaved face ❤️ Sending her lots of love from us all x
So sorry you’ve had such a bad week with her and really hope she feels better soon

Sending healing vibes to Phoebe and I do hope she recovers quickly. Fingers crossed for her.

My piggy Wilf has been under a ga this week too and had a sample taken for a facial swelling. He suggests he and Phoebe start a club.

Poor Phoebe, you do look like you've been in the wars. But I bet it feels better not having all that pressure building up. Get well soon x

Oh I’m sorry I’ve missed this. Sorry about all the worry and for poor Phoebe’s vet visits. I hope that the lancing and then meds do the trick and it’s nothing too worrying. Much love x

I’m sorry that you and Phoebe are having a rough time. I hope all goes well and she makes a speedy recovery

Dear Wild, I am sorry you have a poorly face too.
I hope you feel better soon.
I’’m milking this for all I can. It’s working as I was given a sprig of dill with my afternoon medicine.
Love from Phoebe.

Dear Forum Friends, thank you all for your support. As you see my face looks much better today. A lady never tells but Micah may have helped me clean my face!
Slave is very happy today because I put on 35 g and I’ve been eating lots of hay.
She says I’m still beautiful but I think that at the moment this is my best side

Love from Phoebe 💕

Could the vet do stitches so the hole is kept open to flush daily. It would also be advisable to ask vet for Zithromax (Azithromycin) which is a human antibiotic used by experienced vets for abscesses. It would also be good to know what has caused the abscess. Most likely either a hay price or something dental.

Not sure how i missed this post. :( So sorry to hear that Phoebe is unwell. Sending healing vibes for her from me and the piggies. ❤️

Thanks @Stewybus - I plan on asking about Zithromax next week.
The vet isn’t sure if it is an abscess or something else so flushing isn’t needed at present.
