Our Gardens

Just had a pergola built in my garden
We had to take down the pergola when we moved here for 2 reason: it was rotten and my OH is 6'5" and kept hitting his head on it. We never had it rebuilt as the garden looks a lot bigger now and my OH didn't want to have to duck every time he got up from the patio table.

Saw stressed, exhausted and harassed Mummy Blackbird taking a bit of me time sunning herself this morning.

She, along with Daddy Blackbird have been gathering up food, as much as their beaks will carry, for a good few weeks now and its starting to show how absolutely worn out they both are.

My dad gave me the gift of lawn mowing service for the season, so no mowing here! I also have someone coming to do some weeding next week.

I have mostly lilies, including some black ones. But I'm going to put in some irises this week.

I don't really like the outdoors.

Finally got all the repotting done yesterday. New plants potted up, border weeded and cut back.

Today my plan was to cut the grass... so obviously it's raining! Oh well, if it offends anyone the state is in - they can come and sort it.

I spent ages last weekend emptying a friends pond, relocating the fish & a gorgeous yellow water lily from his pond to mine.

I was told there were 6x goldfish & 2x babies. I came away Saturday with 8x fish & 2x babies,

I went back on Sunday to check there were no stragglers & remove the pump/filter etc.
I looked in a lot, but could only find about 7 or 8 frogs in residence.

I gathered all my stuff together and was about to head for the car, there was a strong chink of sunlight.... Hey presto... Another 3x black baby goldfish popped into view!
Took me ages to catch them! Quick little blighters :))

I've been thinking about getting a few more fish for the pond, I only had 3x left in there since the otter decimated the other 20x leaving body parts scattered all over the back garden in one night, a couple of years ago :'(

The iris in my pond is flowering, the bees like them.

My regular pyramid orchid has come out in flower again this year with 2x flower stems.
There's also another one that's appeared for it's second year a bit further over 🌺🌸

Not sure why I put pyramid orchid... It's a common spotted orchid x

I have someone to come do some weeding today. I went to a native plant sale at a university a couple years ago and bought lanceleaf. It's native to Michigan and it's in bloom. My black lilies are budding as well as my yellow lilies but I have to go weed that particular garden bed and get the irises in before it's too late.

Something is eating my liliums! The flowers are still there but no leaves on the stems ☹️
Do you have slugs in your garden? If you have try nematodes. I used them at my old house as we had "slug alley" by the fence. Nematodes worked and all the slugs vanished. It's an environmentally friendly way to deal with them.

Have a look out for bright red lily beetles ( unmistakable) and their offspring which are small black and hide in poo on the leaves ( much less obvious). Make sure you check underneath the leaves.

No not really, just find them on the path after rain (usually mutant looking ones!)

Thinking about it, I did knock a red bug off one of the leaves the other day. I was doing my weekly check/deadhead of the garden... I'm assuming they are a problem?
