Bobby has lost a bit of weight over the last couple of weeks (he’s steadily been losing a bit each month for 8 months). Our local vet has seen him on numerous occasions but couldn’t find anything wrong

He continued to eat and act perfectly normal despite this

Last night he was quiet. Tonight he can’t swallow. He’s eaten some oats and coriander leaves but that’s it. He can’t swallow water or much recovery feed. Just regurgitates it back up. He tried a drink from his water bottle and regurgitated it, same with the syringe food that I’m helping him with. He just heaves/retches and nothing goes down properly

I’m not sure if it’s teeth or blockage? Not sure how I would know the difference? But he can’t even swallow water properly. He’s only swallowed down a few porridge oats and the coriander leaves. Liquids are coming straight back out

I hope the vet can help when we get there 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Poor Bobby, I hope the emergency vet has been able to help him.

I'm not an expert, but it doesn't sound very like a teeth problem if some food is getting down. Maybe oral thrush? It's usually stated that guineas can't vomit, so the food must be being pushed back out before it's been swallowed.

Sending healing vibes 💓

Thank you all. The vets up here were not all that helpful! They couldn’t really look at his back teeth and I said I wasn’t having him sedated as he’s so underweight. His tummy is soft and without a scan we wouldn’t know about other things going on. He perked up a bit at the vets around 1am so I brought him back home with me and I’ve managed to get recovery feed into him over night.

He’s managing to swallow some things. I’m syringe feeding him and he’s taking the majority of it. He’s also managed some romaine lettuce (I wet it to get some more water into him). He is drooling now too. Which makes me think dental? But I’m wondering if dental issues are the result of something else going on? As this has happened quite suddenly and last night he couldn’t swallow anything at all. He’s still regurgitating some food and liquid today.

I will call C&R in the morning. I’ll continue to supportive feed him till then and keep him eating some of the vegetables that he can manage 🤞🏻

I’m sorry to hear about Bobby. Hopefully with your love and care you can keep his weight ok until you contact C&R tomorro. Thinking of you all and Bobby ❤️

So sorry to hear about Bobby.
If C&R can’t see him what about trying Molly Varga at Rutland House?
Hope you can get an answer soon.
Holding you in my heart ♥️

I'm so sorry about little Bobby, unfortunately both my experiences of drooling/regurgitating were due to tumours/cancer, one was stomach cancer and the other, a tumour on the thymus. Everything crossed for a dental issue which can be resolved ❤

Thank you ❤️

Yes, my gut feeling is that there’s something more sinister going on. As he’s lost weight over time and he is eating little bits of food. I’m not an expert, but I’ve been through dental issues and this seems very different

Sending best wishes and hope you can get in at vets tomorrow who might be of more help. X

You are both in my thoughts today, I hope you can get to see Simon or Kim at the C&R if anyone can rule out/confirm dental they can 🤞Hope whatever it is can be treated x

I’ve managed to get some metacam into Bobby this evening. He managed to get that down.

He then ate some romaine lettuce and some celery which went down fine. I left him to it then attempted to feed him his syringe feed. He can’t get liquids down. Water and syringe feed come straight back out.

It’s also like he eats tiny amounts (he only ate a tiny bit of celery and lettuce) but then stopped. He then start’s regurgitating again ten mins later

I think there’s something really sinister further down, as he can’t fit much food down and any liquids/syringe feed come right back up :(

If it were dental/trapped tongue, I’m presuming he wouldn’t eat at all or swallow at all? He’s trying, but can’t get food swallowed down :(

Not sure if anyone can advise? Will call C&R first thing
