Feeding time be like... Part VIII

Me: *Brings them half a grape each to try*

Gaia: *As usual, legs it into the den\refuses to come out*
Minerva: *As usual, sits and waits*

Me: *Offers Minerva a grape*

Minerva: *Takes it and eats it near the den door* - big mistake-
Gaia: *Snakes her way out and tries to take Minerva's grape*
Minerva: *Turns her head in a totally non-aggressive manner towards Gaia and Gaia jumps back*
Gaia: "Heck no, dun bite me!"
Minerva *Still innocently eating her grape*
Gaia: *Sneaks back over for another attempt at robbery and tries to grab grape*
Minerva: *Turns whole body away - "No, dis mine"*
Gaia: *Grabs the grape and tug o' war battle ensues**Gaia wins*

Me: "Oh poor, Minerva! Did she take your treat? Here..." *hands Minerva another*

Minerva: *Noses the grape, makes no attempt to take it and decides to squabble with Gaia of the remaining 10% of the previous grape instead*

Me: 😖
 
Feeding time be like... Part IX

To bond with them/get them to trust me, I have been rewarding them with tasty snacks if they don't run and hide when the dreaded 'claw' appears and they let me pet them. Unfortunately, this has created expectations...

Minerva: *Sits and lets me pet her*

Me: *Leaves without giving proper tribute*

Minerva: *Instant cry-fest "AREN'T YOU FORGETTING SOMETHING!?"*

Who do I ask? What should it be renamed to? Where should it go? :0
 
You don't need to rename it (although if you wanted, we could think of some ideas!) but a good few of us have ended up with a thread specifically for our guinea pigs, their quirks, and our frazzled human selves.

So the daily scenario now is;

I approach with snacks > Gaia runs and hides in the den > I give good-girl Minerva a snack from my hand > Gaia zooms out, steals Minerva's snack and hightails it back to the den like a ninja who specialises in larceny.

Therefore, Gaia manages to avoid all attempts at bonding. Twerp. XD

Thanks again. I can't think of a title right now (maybe someone else will suggest something for me?) but I know who to look for when I do have one. =)

The entire time I had Comet and Blitzen, this was every meal. Comet would come and get food and run to a hidey. Blitzen was always in the hidey (how he knew which one to hide in, I never worked out), and as soon as Comet was in, Blitzen was out and racing towards another hidey with Comet's food in his mouth. Comet then looked very confused for his food had simply vanished into thin air, and came back to me for more food with a genuine "I don't know what happened to it" look on his face every time.

Is there anything you refer to your girls as yet? I'm not sure when I started calling mine the beastie boys (or why !) And @Lorcan has the goblins...... Something will come to you

Minerva always looks surprised too and searches around where she last saw the snack whilst Gaia is usually gobbling it in the doorway of the den - where Minerva can see her but somehow fails to notice the food is now in Gaia's possession.

I do usually just say 'Hi piggies/piggles' or 'Hi babbies' when I enter the room.

I did call them both fatties once and Gaia looked taken aback. She is the fattest. She knew. XD
 
Sadly, as this thread is now a general thread and is no longer just about food/feeding time I'm going to have to share disgusting things here. XD

Minerva has really ramped up her rumblestrutting and chasing Gaia around the cage and one, or both of them because I haven't witnessed the culprit yet, has taken to projectile peeing; I can see it dotted across the walls of the cage and the den.

Is this full on dominance war or is Minerva in season or something?
 
WELL... The pea flakes finally arrived.

I eagerly tore into them thinking how much fun it would be to see their little eyes light up and happily tuck into a sure-to-be new favourite treat that I could use to reward, bribe and train them...

AND... neither of them could give a damn. Minerva tried to eat my hand instead.
 
When I stopped laughing I remembered that It did take some time before George and Tim tried one, Boris however was straight on it. This is possibly because George told him they were good. Keep trying, there are a few pigs who don't like them but not many. 😆
 
Thea, Misty and Bramble would happily eat the whole bag of pea flakes. However, they are restricted to 3 each per night for Thea and Misty and 2 each for Bramble until she has finished growing. When Bramble was really young (I adopted her a 4 months old) she only got 1 pea flake.

I'll keep trying but I'm getting quite the collection of treats they like to turn their noses up at. XD
 
I feel that. It took the goblins nearly a year to stop being so suspicious of forage stuff (and they've been eating the latest forage bag happily), but I've nearly lost my fingers in attempts to bite at pea flakes before, lol. They can't always tell the difference between food and fingers because they can't see down their noses like we can.

Minerva was WAY off the pea flake though... I honestly think she was just curious about the taste of human flesh.
 
Earlier they both had floor time in the back room while I was in the kitchen prepping food (mine, not theirs lol) and I stepped in with some carrot peelings for them and started scattering them around the room so they could hunt for them and Minerva walked past a few pieces, crossed the entire room, and came specifically to me to be hand fed a piece.😭

Why do they always have these kodak moments when I've not got my phone on me? :hb:
 
I remember trying to feed one of the goblins, probably Bann, some sort of vegetable matter that was long. I held one end and offered him the other, and he proceeded to sniff along the length of whatever it was, got to my fingers, and chomped. 🤨 Pretty sure he did that one on purpose, yeah.

As for kodak moments, it's only going to get worse. You'll never have your phone at the precise right time, at best you'll be half a second too slow and then the moment is gone.

They like to push their luck. :xd:

I'm sure my two have figured out I'm trying to get pictures of them; they always bolt when I get my phone. I make sure the flash is off and it doesn't make a noise but they both flee anyway.
