Merab's Herd

Just finished work.
It’s been a busy day.
My lively and noisy girl was as good as gold at the vet. Ruth came along for the ride.
They got the samples needed so now it’s just a case of waiting.
She doesn’t seem in the least traumatised by her vet trip and the carrier had a good number of poops left in it. First thing she did when back in the cage was hoover up any bits of leaf left by Priscilla and Micah and stuff herself with hay.

Ah baby girl, she wasn't bothered in the slightest when we took them for a check up the day after they arrived. Like, at all 😂
Some piggies won't eat in the carrier, Orlando goes completely out of it and a bit floppy, Miley the bunny has a proper panic... but not Naomi 😂

She is such a relaxed piggy, such a happy girl.
She and Ruth have adapted to herd life beautifully.

Naomi sure knows how totally soak a cage lol, she's not very good at drinking from a bottle... yet give her a bowl and it ends up full of poop and hay 😂
I know!
I was changing the water bowl several times a day.
They still have a bowl but there’s not enough room for yet more bowls of water.
Priscilla and Micah are used to bottles so now we have one new sippy bottle, one bowl and one old bottle.
I’m hoping Naomi will cope with the sippy bottle, stop flooding the cage and I will then replace the other bottle.

Not sure what the trigger was but Naomi and Priscilla indulged in some teeth chattering and Priscilla was chased off.
She went and hid while Micah stood guard.
Priscilla has spent most of the day in her tunnel but as this isn’t too unusual on colder days I’m really not sure if she’s scared, if Naomi is in season or this is still part of them sorting out who’s top pig.
It’s nowhere near as dramatic as the bonding between Jemimah and Priscilla was so I’m not too concerned at the moment- just watching them.

I’m at an all day meeting tomorrow so my husband is under instructions to keep an eye on them.
A towel and oven gloves will be on hand for him.
The joys a new bond settling!

Hopefully it’s them just sorting who goes where in the pecking order. Or just a strong season 🤞🏾

I think they’re sorting themselves out.
More chasing and Naomi got herself a mouthful of fur.
I remember Priscilla with a mouthful of Jemimah’s fur too.
Priscilla is having a cuddle and a carrot baton as I wanted to check for any damage.
No evidence of injury at all.

Time to go home.
Priscilla has just expressed her gratitude by seeing on me!

Went to check on why Priscilla was squealing this time.
Not Naomi invading her space.
Not another pig trying to share her tunnel.
Micah had decided it was her turn to be loved!

She can be a real grump which makes it a bit of a challenge working out how much is the sorting out of the bond and how much is Priscilla being a grumpy old lady

Paws crossed everything settles down harmoniously, very likely it will if there were no major battles at the start- I'm sure only hormonal young lady pigs enjoy the status of being the centre of male attention all the time, once piggy ladies pass 18 months and hooman ladies pass 30, we all value female friends as much if not more than the undivided attention of a husband! Micah needs a hobby, perhaps he could join a choir or a book club or a sports team so his wives can bond in peace lol :)

Life is much calmer today.
Every pig was weighed and checked.
Naomi is still gaining weight but her hay consumption is phenomenal.
Ruth is holding steady.
Micah has lost some weight but given the ‘exercise’ he’s had in the last week it’s not surprising. I gave him the bit of left over syringe feed, more because he likes it than needs it.
Priscilla had lost about 100g this week which I think is due to bonding stress and the fact that she’s spent too much time hiding in a tunnel.
I gave her a syringe full of her favourite CC which she wolfed down.
As she’s out and about and eating well today I think she and Naomi have settled their hierarchy and will be fine.

I’ll suggest a book club to Micah. He and I can sit and discuss the book while the girls get on with sow stuff.
This isn’t bad for the first week.
