Maud is Very Poorly

I'm glad she seems to have perked up a bit. It's always a relief when they start eating a bit for themselves, even if it's just a little bit.

Aw, fingers crossed for her Yvonne, Maud sounds a bit brighter, hope she keeps going in the right direction 🤞

A quick update on Maud. She came out and shared veggies with Esme this morning, didn't eat lots but definitely an improvement and she has just eaten a little grass. Tried her in the Emeraid Intensive Care today but she hates it just as much as the apple and banana Critical Care. We both end up covered in the stuff.

Clearly she’s still got some feistiness and that’s always a good sign. Good to hear that she is showing some continuing signs of improvement. Hang in there x

Could it be that she dislikes the syringe feeding rather than the CC? It might be worth putting some in a bowl and whether she eats it by herself.

An update of Maud. Review with the vet yesterday went well. Maud's breathing is still not great but certainly better than it was a week ago. I saw the x-rays done previously and she had only about 25% functioning lung space. Her weight is stable (she has only lost 20g), i have been syringe feeding her less the past couple of days as she is now eating some food for herself. She will continue to take Zithromax for a further week alongside Frusol and Metacam which she may be on long-term. We are taking a day at a time and as long as she is pain free we will continue to treat her and see if the improvement continues. The vet thinks that she will soon hit a plateau which will be her new normal. We have been told to encourage her to move around a bit so that she doesn't lose muscle mass but she still spends a lot of time lying in her bed.

The vet wants to see her again in three weeks for a review and possibly an ultrasound as we don't know the underlying cause of the lung damage and this may show up. Ideally we would like to know if this is progressive or if she has just been unlucky and the lung damage has been caused by a severe infection.

Well done Maud on some improvement - hopefully the meds keep things under control for her. She’s got the best caretaker in you ❤️
