Maud is Very Poorly

I’m so sorry the news isn’t great. You will make the best decision for Maude. Sending hugs. ❤️

Thinking of you and Maud, you have her best interests at heart and she’s getting the best care possible with you. Fingers and paws crossed here, take care of yourself and her xx

Maud has gone for her x-ray this morning. She refuses to eat anything except for coriander, so i managed to syringe feed her 12ml of critical care before she went to the vets. Please keep your fingers crossed for her today.

HUGS

Thinking of Maud and you!

I'm so sorry it wasn't better news take your time before making any decisions as this will have come as a shock. 💕

I am so sorry it wasn't better news. You will make the right decision for Maud, it will be a decision made with much love.

Maud has a high white blood cell count which would indicate infection, so Zithromax is being prescribed. However, the vet says that her lungs are badly damaged and she may not get enough lung function back to live a normal life. Possibly cancer is still the underlying cause. So, we are going to see if there is any improvement over the next 4 days, if not we will have to look at her quality of life and make a decision. We have agreed with the vet that syringe feeding her long term is not in her best interests.

Oh I’m sorry to read this about lovely Maud
Sending much love and healing vibes to Maude and you all ❤️

Ashleigh have two new exotics specialists alongside the current two (to my knowledge), but they lost I think three of their long-standing exotics vet in the space of a few months. It sounds like they're going through a difficult period. :(

Sending you big hugs! I hope Maud picks up a little. x

Hoping everything goes really well for Maud over the next few days and the lung damage is minimal x

Yes, they are struggling for staff. I believe that they have two new vets with exotics experience joining them soon but i don't think they have actually started yet. Thankfully, Maud is now under the care of Aiden who is the head exotics vet.

How do you find out which vets have the most exotic pet experience?
I ask them! I usually ask how often they treat guinea pigs. If they are performing a surgical procedure, i ask what their success rate is. I have asked for other vets at the practice to carry out surgery if i don't have confidence in the vet assigned to my pet. I know they have to get experience but with something like a spay, previous successful outcomes are important. I find that the vets at Ashleigh are happy to provide the information and have been fine about me taking a piggy to a more experienced vet for a particular procedure.

Ah that’s great news - come lovely Maud …you can do this ❤️

Oh gosh I’m sorry I thought I read that Maud was picking up - I really hope she does lovely Maude

So fingers crossed, Maud is slightly brighter this morning but is also a little bloated. 😔 She got out of her bed when we brought them breakfast and came for her coriander. She has also eaten a little fennel, dandelion leaves and lettuce, and we are continuing to syringe feeding her. I called the vet about the bloat and he thinks that she may be swallowing air as it is difficult for her to breath. We now have Cisapride and Cerenia for her, which hopefully will help. Aiden advised that new research has shown that Cerenia can help piggies with gut issues (something worth noting if you ever have a piggy with bloat).
