Lump

OK so...
She has ulcered both eyes
She's very quiet and out of it, she's chewing so slowly just getting a metacam dose in her is taking a long time
But she's had a buprecare injection
Can have up to 1ml dog metacam twice a day
Has 2 lots of eye drops- chloramphenicol and remand
Fibreplex
Cisapride
Baytril
Alternating emeraid and science selective but only managing 5ml on average and that's taking half an hour + to get in as she just isn't chewing correctly 😩
They offered to keep her for the day but as the car was going straight in the garage and I had noone to pick her up and they close at 6 I've had to opt for home syringe feeding 😬 oh has taken toddler to garage so I can focus on her.
What a nightmare!
Poor girl with a big surgery wound and 2 ulcerated eyes! And poor you trying to juggle this with your kids and car problems... sending many hugs, I know life sometimes feels like blundering through one crisis after another, but... you'll get through this and things will pick up and get better x

Sending hugs what a nightmare you are having :hug:did they saying what had happen to her eyes? Poor little mite, hope she’s 9n the mend now x

Thankyou for the well wishes 💗 feel so bad for her 😩 she's a bit clicky and all the gunk from her eyes is coming down her nose so I'm having to nebulise her to be able to get her to take syringe feed but she's now taking 10ml in a session 💖 I had the vet check her chest etc and it's all clear but apparently her breathing was loud during surgery so they think it's just the anesthetic and stress of surgery (she's just got over a uri so all this clicking was rather freaking me out! But she isn't clicking on the vets exam table only when eating so I think it's probably just the combination of eye gunk coming down and anesthetic!) her eyes are really worrying me! She still won't eat anything of her own accord (would sit on her favourite corriander and drip recovery food onto it but said absolutely not to eating it even when I tried to put some in her mouth she just dropped it 😩)
Some pics of my poor girl 💖

They put eye gel in for surgery but said it does dry the eyes, think she hay poked in the carrier on the way home (there was a little hay in each eye when we got home) xx

Oh poor little love. They can be clicky for a while after anaesthetic. You are doing a great job getting 10ml into her each feed. Sometimes when they are a bit woozy after anaesthesia they can get hay pokes. She’s just so unlucky having 2 hay pokes as well as the abscess surgery. Just keep on treating her eyes and giving her the meds and her syringe feeds and hopefully she will turn a corner soon.

My Ginger was very clicky after her op, she then coughed and it was gone. Ted was like it once for a good 24 hours after anaesthetic so try not to worry too much x
Hope the eye drops will work fast, such a shame, hope she starts to eat soon 🤞

Thankyou 💖 the worse eye she won't actually open now and it looks worse if anything so I really hope these eye drops kick in quickly 😰 the nebuliser definitely seems to help the clicking and she really seems to like it, we just use the mask attachment and she moves her head towards it whenever I go to take it away so it must be soothing for her 💖💗 she also takes the syringe much much better if I nebulise first 🤞

When the eye is very sore they do close it. As it heals it gets easier to put the drops in and they usually do get a bit worse before they get better. Hope she soon starts to heal x

Clicking is a not uncommon side effect of a GA; it usually disappears on its own within about 24 hours. Clearer airways will help the breathing and make the eating easier. 10 ml in a sitting is not bad at all for post-op.

Very sorry about your two hay pokes. Hang on in there and apply the eye meds. As you have caught it early; it should start improving noticeably from day 2-3 depending on the severity. Pull the lower lid gently down and aim the drops into the gap between lid and eye. It is actually easier to medicate eyes when a piggy cannot see you well or at all.

HUGS

Thankyou it's great to know it's normal to be clicky and to hay poke, while we've had piggy ops previously (think this is op number 5) we've been lucky to not have clicking or hay pokes (had eye drops for conjunctivitis following hay poke before but this is our first actual ulcer!) 💖 pleased to report she seems perkier and less zoned out this morning and is starting to show interest in eating by herself again 💪😁 so worth the sleepless nights to see improvement 🤞😍

Aw, great news, hang in there Marshmallow sound like she is on the mend now 🤞you are doing a great job Mummy x

So pleased that things are moving in the right direction. You are doing an amazing job. Don’t lose sight of that xx

Great that things are proceeding as they should. Take confidence from that and make sure that you also look after yourself in the coming 2-3 days until the healing process is in full swing. The first day post-up is what I call 'hangover day' when the operation cocktail is gradually wearing off and worked out of the body and your piggy is feeling very sore. From then on in, they should be a bit perkier with every day.

With the hay pokes, just keep medicating. Rehydrate if possible with plain tear gel from the pharmacy (it also helps to speed up the healing process in the deeper layer as well as with the comfort as long as you always wait at least 30 minutes for the antibiotic eye drops/gel to be fully absorbed. You should see things improving in another day or two.

Right now, hang in there and take a rest yourself.

Thankyou 💖 when you say plain tear gel, the vet has given me remand twice a day as well as the antibiotic drops twice a day, is remand the same thing or should I get plain tear gel too?
She is still clicking and sneezing a bit too now 🤔 she is finishing the baytril course to make sure the abcess infection is gone but if she's still like this at the recheck I will queery uri return 🤔 though I'm very much hoping it's just due to the eye discharge and anesthetic! 💖 We are at day 3 now though 🤔 nebulising thankfully seems to settle it and she seems to love the nebuliser 😂
I had 6 hours sleep 💪

If you have already got a lubricant (which is hydrating), then you do not need additional tear gel. ;)

If your girl has got a URI background or if the clicking is persisting, then it should be checked in case your girl may have aspirated some fluid under GA and it could have got into the lung. Normal GA related respiratory symptoms tend to disappear within a day or so of the operation.

Thankyou 💖
She finished antibiotics for the uri (sulfatrim 22days in total) and then 3 days later the abcess appeared :mal: then the day after she started the baytril for the abcess she had nasal discharge again which cleared up within 2 days 🤞 she is a pain for clicking at home and not on the vets table though 🤦‍♀️ they did check her chest etc Friday when I took her for the eyes and all was clear so hopefully it's just the eye discharge coming down her nose and bunging her up but I will have them recheck to be safe 😁 the clicking appears to be from her nose and is intermittent not sure if it makes a difference 🤔 thankyou again for the advice 💖

Sorry, I’m a bit behind on catching up with you here.
Poor you dealing with double haypoke as well as everyth else.
Lots and lots of hugs 🤗

Little marshmallow seems almost back to normal now 🤞🤞 she's eating well and back to acting hormonal humping every pig in sight (ill be having her checked for hormone issues once my exotic vet gets back off holiday and will probably discuss an ovariectomy) :mal: and best of all NO CLICKING TODAY :yahoo: thankyou everyone for the support 💖

:yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:Aw wonderful news, so glad Marshmallow is back to her “normal” humpy self 😊

Oh, I’m always thrilled when a previously poorly piggy starts throwing their weight around again. Such lovely update.

That’s great news. Just caught up on this thread. Sounded scary for a couple of days. I’m pleased she seems better.

Thankyou 💖 the first night was especially scary she was so out of it from the anesthetic she didn't seem to know how to coordinate her chewing 🤔😱 definitely gave me a heart attack especially combined with the eye ulcers :mal: :mal: I'm just so relieved she's doing much better now 💖😌 she has an appointment tomorrow for her stitches removing so I'll get the vet to double check everything then fingers crossed we will just have to finish up the baytril and eye medications and sort the hormones! 😅
