I don’t know what to do

Do post photos. Make sure they are clear so perhaps have one person holding and you take a photo. As I said earlier, you have to check for the fleshy seal inside the slit and the penis ridge above the button. Not just see if there is a button. Some pups can look ambiguous.

By the way, not to open up old wounds but your late sow may have been pregnant again when she passed away. If I understand correctly, they were all living together up until her death? If you knew she was a sow why did you not separate him earlier?

You've asked for advice. The accommodation is unacceptable and your pet was hurt by a dog (predator). You cannot prevent this if they don't have adequate protection whilst outside.

She was separated from the boar. The daddy pig was free roam while the mum stayed with the babies image.webpimage.webpimage.webp

I’d guess a boar and two sows. Have you checked for the penis ridge on all three? And the fleshy seal?

How come the pups were with the dad when their mum passed away then? And you said you separated them on Sunday into the boar and sow pair. Yet they’re back together again?

But you also said you had separated them yet the pups are all still together. Which was it?

Have you booked the vet appointment yet? It wouldn’t do any harm to take dad as well. They can all have a general check.

I will bond the boys tonight and how do I check the penis ridge and fleshy seal?

I will seperate the boars before 3 weeks old. They have not been seperated yet except for the dad. The 3 pups are still together and away from the dad. I haven’t booked an appointment yet.

You were given the link to the sexing thread. Please read that. And as I said earlier, the fleshy seal is just inside the slit. The penis ridge is on the lower belly above the slit.

Once you bond the boys you can’t put the pup back in with his sisters. There’s no point and it will also be disruptive.

Make sure you do the bonding somewhere where they’ve both not been. Just a pile of hay, no hides.

Yes you can use pee pads. As long as they’ve not been used with dad. You can’t have anything that smells of dad at all. So disposable puppy pads would be preferable. Will it be away from the sows?

As I weighed my guinea pig I notice the one that weighed 163g has decreased to 160g is that okay since it’s just the morning ?

You need to weigh at the same time every day. 3G isn’t anything to write home about. But weigh at the same time as yesterday.

Have you checked them again for the fleshy seal and penis ridge? And have you booked a vet appointment? If not, why not?

I have booked an appointment next week on Tuesday 2pm. I have checked the penis ridge and the boy has a penis ridge. I haven’t been able to check the fleshy seal since the piggie keeps kicking and scratching me..

Also one of the piggies (the lightest one weighing at 160g) has been pretty restless. She is always staying in one corner with her eyes closed and she keeps shivering. The vet will cost $80 for each piggie.

I she’s restless she’s be moving around a lot more. How long has she been like that for? Best bet is the vet.

I’m afraid it costs what it costs. You can’t scrimp on vet costs. They’re not as cheap as people believe they are.

She’s been restless like this since a couple days ago ever since I stopped feeding her milk.

Not many vets in australia treat guinea pigs. So I have to take them to a exotic vet that specialises in exotic animals which is more pricey than having a typical dog or cat.

Is she pooing? You’ll be weighing her over the next days so keep an eye on her weight. But if she’s acting out of the ordinary you should try and get her seen before Tuesday. Perhaps you oils get them all changed and seen in one go.

I’m not sure if she’s pooping. She’s eating hay thought.

I searched on multiple websites and it says that bathing them 3-4 times a year is healthy. Can I bathe the babies yet?

This was mentioned before. What you read on google isn’t (always) correct. They don’t need bathing unless for medical reasons (directed by vet). Doing so actually strips them of their natural skin oils. Why do you feel the need to bathe them? They do a good job of keeping themselves clean.

That’s expected with piggies that have white bellies. That staining will happen but most likely won’t wash out. There are members on here with white piggies that are stained.

As mentioned before you should use something more absorbent than newspaper in the base.

can I just use hay as the base?

As we have told you earlier in the thread, you can put something absorbent on the bottom (such as the paper pellet litter or puppy pads) and then put hay on top of it. Hay is fine as a bedding.
What you cannot do is use only hay as hay as no absorbency and newspaper alone gets wet very quickly

Definitely check for the fleshy seal in sows as the guides explain. It’s a hands on thing and while we can look at the pictures, we cannot open the seal to check that.

I normally put a very thick news paper layer and whenever I clean it up the next morning the wee hasn’t fully soaked through because I usually put a medium layer of hay.

one of the sows have a fleshy seal but I can’t seem to check the other one.

It doesn’t matter if it hasn’t fully soaked through, the point is the top of the newspaper layer will be wet which is what you need to avoid. They need to be bedded on something which is going to take the moisture down away from the surface to leave the surface dry at all times.
Hay doesn’t have any absorbency, the urine will just run straight through it.
They need mountains of hay to be refreshed several times a day. It is a bedding but most importantly it is their main food source and needs to be kept fresh at all times.

Why can’t you check the other one? Is it just that it’s not clear?

Yes it is not clear. Her area is covered by wet, yellow fur. Also she keeps kicking. I assume she’s a girl because she doesn’t have the button or the penis ridge.
