Guinea pig unable to pass poop !

Any antibiotic can cause an adverse reaction and impact on the digesticve gut bacteria/microbiome that converts food into nutrition. The majority of piggies do not have an adverse reaction. Please keep in mind that baytril is a bit harsher on the gut microbiome but that it is also by a very long stretch the most prescribed antibiotic for guinea pigs.

It frankly very much depends on what bug your piggies have got and whether an antibiotic (against bacteria) or rather a worming medication like panacur may be more effective; it is also effective against some other bugs. And how serious the problem is.

Ok..then i'll just focus on hydrating him

Less mucus means less dehydration. The thickness of the poos is actually good; they are nice and plump which means enough feed. Please offer your boy water via a syringe; just very little so he can swallow it and it cannot go into the lungs. But please be aware that the poos will refect what has gone on over a day before.

Just hang in there if he is starting to pick up. I would certainly not recommend an antibiotic for him and from the look of the poos there is no need for one.
Sure, i'll not give him antibiotic ..will try to just stabilize his gut..lets see what happens

Can you get hold of probiotics?

His problems are not down to an infection in the gut but to pain and the GA drugs. Your good feeding care and time are the best healers for that.

Yes similar to these but i've to help him clean his sack, he still not pooping by himself, his name is "Motu" meaning chubby in hindi 😁
He is the only piggie who loves his human..also sleeps with my mom in winters.
Btw dexter will be fine soon, try using betadine to clean wounds i've a good experience with betadine in speedy wound healing. Just keep updating me with dexter as it's kind of similar case with motu. Would love to know about his recovery
Awww motu, he really is lovely. Ok I will try and get hold of some betadine. Ok I will keep you upto date x

Yes i can but i can only get the ones for cats and dogs. There are some good bacteria that can also help guinea pigs

Try a bit of that or human probiotics if there is nothing else available.

Poops are better but still unable to pass them on its own, but for now that's something i'll take care of later. Priority is to make sure he is out of any post op danger

Isn't good.. taking him to see the vet today

Oh no, I hope he's OK 🙏. It's so stressful. I've had all five of my piggies to the vets more times in the last year. Sadly two of them have now passed away and I'm hoping Dexter will pull through. Please let us know how things go at the vet x

You are doing such an amazing job for your piggies. And those poop are looking so much better. Sorry that your other piggy now has problems. Hang in there.

That would rather be hardened smegma or dried semen fluid ('boar glue'). Calcium doesn't form in a penis shaft.
Here is our guide for what to look out for in boars and how to deal with boy issues before they can become a major problem: Boar Care: Bits, Bums & Baths

Motu is obviously still very painful in the operated area and will choose the most comfortable position to lie/sleep in.

What dosage of metacam is he on?

Motu is fine, this is from the other piggie who had diarrhoea and gurgling sound from stomach. He was neutered 2 months ago.

Please continue to check the area. If there are no problems and no signs of pain, then you have a very relaxed piggy!

Some pus oozed last week near the surgery site, so i cleaned him squeezed out all of the pus and now his wound from where pus was coming out healed. Can it be the abscess ?
Vet is closed tomorrow

Hi

It could be an abscess but you can wait to have him see nuntil next week unless he is looking acutely ill or he develops a large swelling.

He is also having wet chin and neck , so maybe malocclusion is the culprit for not eating and getting diarrhoea for now.
