Guinea pig unable to pass poop !

He is not gonna make it. Just moving his hands and legs like he's running and making painful noise
I’m so sorry. This does sound like the final stage. He is not aware of his surroundings now. I hope he passes quickly and is soon at peace. Sending you a hug.

I would do whatever is in his best interests. See what the vet says but if it is gonna prolong his agony then maybe it's time to let him go. Ask about what his chances of survival are and whether or not he will recover completely.

I am dreading my vets visit today as I am considering euthanasia aswell. I can't watch my dexy be in pain any longer but don't want to say goodbye either.

I am gonna do what is best for him x
Good luck at your vet appointment. Sending healing vibes.

You have done all you could for both your boys. I’m so sorry they couldn’t be saved.

So sorry to hear you lost Motu as well. It’s heartbreaking to see our beloved little ones in pain but you really did all you could for them. I hope your remaining herd of piggies bring you some comfort and joy as you grieve for your two precious babies. Thinking of you ❤️

What a horrible time for you 😭
Your boys are reunited now, at peace.
Please take comfort in knowing you did everything you could and what a caring owner you are.
Your piggies were lucky to have you ❤️
RIP boys 🌈❤️

Oh my heart breaks for you. I’m so sorry that you’ve lost Motu, too. What a dreadfully sad time for you. You clearly loved them so much x

Motu passed away

I am so, so sorry!

It is so difficult when you haven't got access to a vet who is experienced with guinea pigs. They often fall into a gap since small rodents count as exotic pets and do not feature much (or at all) on a general vet's curriculum but they are too 'common' for many exotics vets. :(

Having just lost two piggies of my own within a day of each other at the start of this week and a record 10 piggies in all this year (three times two within the same week, all unrelated), I fully understand how devastating it is.

BIG HUGS

That's horrible..i can't stand losing my two piggies

One question i want to ask. Neutering my single male guinea pig will be ok? What are the risk associated with neutering?
Any future risks like hernia or infection?

And how to help my single pig deal with the loneliness and death of other two? Any advice ?

My head is bursting. Its too difficult to accept the fact that motu isn't with me. He was like to favourite child of the house.

No matter of how many you are losing, it never hurts any less because every bond and every relationship is unique although some other recurring part of the grieving/euthanazing process will get a bit easier because you can spot them and have worked through some decisions. If you struggle, you will find that our grieving guide contains some helpful practical tips.

It has been a horrible year indeed; especially as the deaths have come in bunches and not nicely spaced out. Even with guinea pigs going back half a century to my childhood and having had over 80 in my life by now, losing them still hurts. :(

After your experiences with your operated boy, would you really want to risk neutering and not just see whether you can find a little boyfriend instead? Look for one that is healthy but not dominant and sex beforehand (we will help you with that to make sure that there are no accidents). We also have bonding guides if needed.

While neutering has become a much safer procedure with the best of vets, it can come with a high risk of complications and even fatality with vets that are not familiar with guinea pigs. :(

Actually i don't want to have any other pets in my life. I get attached with them more than any human beings. So getting another one and separating with them later isn't something that i cope with thats why i just don't want to get any new guinea pig or any other pet. May be i am too emotional. Today i am literally feeling that i have lost a part of me. They are everything to me.

It is totally normal to not wanting any more pets right now but please never say never again. Don't starve yourself of any joy in your life because giving love also means to bear pain. Especially not when you have the ability, and ultimately the need, to love deeply, as you do. Give yourself time to grieve and to process it all first before making any long term decisions.

Loss is the price we have to pay for the love and joy pets bring into our life. For me, when the chips are down, the years of joy outweigh the pain of the loss because without my piggies my life would be much poorer. I would also haven't grown as much as a human without having to find a way to cope with my losses and become much more empathetic, compassionate and emotionally mature.

My pain over the last 18 months is weighed up by not losing any piggies at all for the same length of time with having the same 27 piggies throughout the worst of the pandemic - it is just that they are in piggy terms about 15-20 years older now... Most of them have lived a normal to long life span and have just reached the end of their life; a few have sadly died younger from medical issues.

HUGS

You shouldn't honestly. We're lucky here in the UK to have some really good guinea pig specialist vets. You can only do what you can with what you have!

With regards to neutering, the only complication we've ever had is an abscess at the neuter site, which all cleared up after being drained and some antibiotics. Although any surgery is of course a risk, we've never lost a piggy being neutered.

Take your time to make a decision, there's no rush, you're having a hard time right now x

Hello everyone, this is going to be my last message in this thread. I just want to thank you all who stood by me during this tough time and helped me with such valuable suggestions, advices and comforting words for me and Chhotu motu. This forum has helped me more than anyone here around. It is going hard for me coping with the loss. May be some alone time can help me dealing with this situation.
