Eriathwens piggies

The grass is definitely a big hit 😅 I still don't understand how a pig with such a big appetite can be doing such rubbish poos in spite if everything she's had to help with them. But I guess it's going to just have to be something we live with?

I can’t give my Pepper much grass at all. He’s never been able to eat lots of it even if I try and introduce it slowly. It gives him very soft poops. Also he loves carrot. But again even a tiny bit makes his poops soft. He loves soft Timothy hay but I have to give him meadow hay and second cut Timothy hay to balance his gut. Some piggies are just more sensitive than others.

Poor Pepper, Bramble was a bit like that when she was around. Peas and apple for some reason caused her no end of digestive issues! Bloat, diarrhoea etc

I just don't understand how Mabel can still be producing stasis poops when everything else indicates she isnt in gut stasis. The sheer volume and frequency of poops alone shows everything is moving normally, but of course if you give her motility meds things move too quickly and she gets diarrhoea. She has such a good appetite but somewhere along the way something is causing an issue, if I didn't know better I'd think there was something like a tumour in her abdomen but everything was healthy when she was spayed.

Next step is to try her with some timothy, I'm very allergic but at this point it's worth a shot.

So Mabel went back to the vet this morning, she hated the heart meds, it was a struggle to get them into her in the end and honestly, that wasn't the quality of life I wanted for her so I had taken her off them. I started her on gabapentin and it seems to be working somewhat well, probably needs more time. But she's excited about food, just not hay still. So he's said she can stay on the gaba and off the heart meds, carry on with the grass and see how things go for the next few weeks. But I must admit I'm happier with how she's doing now than how she was a week ago.

Luckily I've let the garden go a bit so there's some nice stuff left, I've got a small production line of seed trays growing wheat grass in various stages, plus I've ordered some ready grown wheatgrass to help transition her from the tougher winter grass to the soft fresh growth. Although I'll probably keep giving her both if I can find some out and about when what's in the garden has gone.

I wish spring would hurry up though, it will make life much easier.

Shes in a very good mood today for some reason, must have been being able to pee on the vets table 😅 but then they're all full of beans, a lot of them kept coming to sit with me and popcorn. I got a video of Cherry and Amber having a good time with my slippers!

I think Cherry and Amber have a foot fetish 😆

Glad to hear Mabel is doing ok 👍

Most of mine seem to have a foot fetish 😅 either that or for some reason my feet smell like guinea pigs!

Anyway, if Mabel wants grass, she's got grass 🤣 got my delivery today to tide her over on top of the trays I've already got sprouting in their room!

Small bit of progress, all things considered, Mabel actually doesn't seem to like me very much for some reason 🤣 could be all the shoving of medications, syringe feeds, hair trims, nail clips, combings, vet trips, her surgery, too many kisses and the stupid baby voice 😅

But anyway, I was playing a game on my phone just now waiting for her to finish what's left of her grass after a syringe feed and all of a sudden my leg goes warm. Usually that means she's backed up and peed on me, but no. She's cuddled up and gone to sleep! At least I assume she's asleep, her eyes are open but her ears keep flapping 😅

So Silver has had me up all night again with the return of his squeaky wees! Mostly worried because I knew my vets were short staffed and getting an appointment would be a pain. Luckily, the star that he is, my vet put up some antibiotics for me to collect for him without having to bring the poor boy down.
I had started him on baytril anyway as I have some for the hamster but it wasn't enough to keep them both going over the weekend, so very grateful that was sorted.

I'm sure a good 25% of my grey hairs are from this little sausage!

Oh poor little Silver I hope he feels better soon once those AB’s get working x

Thankyou both, I cant stand the noise they make when they've got bladder pain, it breaks my heart 😔
I do think I've found the cause of it though, between them they've 2 water bottles and usually they drink from both, lately they've been favouring one. Turns out the other one has stopped letting out water, when I change the water I give them a little squeeze to make sure water comes out, turns out it was letting water out if you forced it from above but using the spout, it wasn't working 🤦‍♀️ so I replaced that this morning with a new bottle. Silver has hardly left it alone all day, I guess that side was his favourite water bottle? But he has drank and peed loads, and seems to have flushed his bladder out, so hopefully the antibiotics work quickly, he already seems a little better but he is such a worry bless him 😅

Aw bless him, he is a clever boy, hope he feels better soon.
It’s weird, I have one pair that I rarely see drink and the other pair that drink loads. I’ve tried everything to get Kiki and Hector to drink more but they are not interested at all. I will check their drinker though now, never thought it could be a problem, it’s usually the other way dripping all over the place 🙄

I must admit, all the pigs I have that have chronic bladder issues are my worst drinkers..I'd love to be able to talk to them for 5 minutes to explain how they can help themselves! They must have heard me complaining about cleaning and replacing water bottles being my least favourite job 😅
He seems a little better today thankfully, he's still painful but he isnt attempting to pee every few minutes not at least and I got a decent sleep.

Speaking of water bottles, Gus was being incredibly nosy while I was replacing them all earlier, he's such a handsome old man 🥰

Aw, beautiful Silver 💙 hope the AB’s have kicked in niw and he is feeling more comfortable🤞So glad Silver and Mabel have put some weight on too 😊

Hes definitely feeling better bless him, full of beans now! Which is great, it took over a week on the last course for him to stop squeaking. I've an appointment on the 16th for Forrest as he's had some crusty stuff around his mouth for a while now, but of course you can't get near his mouth with just one pair of hands. It's either boar glue or cheilitis, it seems to have cleared up externally but of course I cant see inside his mouth because he's an absolute hooligan 😂 so Silver can get a quick check over while he's there as well, he always comes along anyway as they don't like being separated.
