Eddie doesn't quite seem himself

Earlier this morning I saw Eddie drink from the water bottle for the first time since his teeth problems! 😄 I wasn't worried about him not drinking as veg would keep him hydrated but it's nice to see him acting so like himself again.

Poos are still improving too! They're now normal shaped and less squishy(still a litlle but not like before) just smaller the moment.

He's coming off the loxicom today as well so fingers crossed he'll be fine without that.

Excellent. Long May it continue.

Little update:

Almost everything is going well with Eddie now. The only exceptions are still slightly smaller, softer poos (which I expect is due to the antibiotics) and when giving Eddie his medicine a little earlier I heard a quiet crackling noise as he breathed. It wasn't constant but I'm worried he has breathed in some medicine at some point. Is this something I should get the vet to check out just to be sure?

Glad things are improving for you guys.
I would get the cracking noise checked out, to be on the safe side

I haven't managed to get the crackling checked out yet :( I wanted to wait until Saturday to see if it would pass on its own as sometimes Eddie will go honky for a little while then cough and sort himself out. On Sunday it was still there but it had snowed so I couldn't get to the vets and the snow hasn't melted yet. I forgot to check if he was still doing it this morning but it's very quiet so I can only hear it if I put by head right next to his so I'll have to see if I can catch him again later. I'm going to get a vet appointment as soon as possible.

In other news, yesterday was the last day of Eddie's antibiotics course so teeth wise he should be fine now :D

Poos are almost back to normal. Still not quite big enough but always formed. Sometimes they're a little soft and sometimes they're not but that's probably down to the antibiotics so I'll see if that sorts out now he's off those.

His weight has dipped a bit though. On the 20th he was 988g and today he is 958g. That's a normal fluctuation isn't it?

So glad Eddie is doing so well, I would just keep an I on his weight. You are looking for a downward trend more than the odd drop in weight one day.

@Bill & Ted @Claire W since the 20th his weight has gone 988g, 984g, 980g, 963g, 959g, 958g which is a downward trend but none of the jumps are very big and the overall loss is only 30g. Do I just keep monitoring and weighing or do I need to step in and do something?

@Bradshaw Piggies thank you 😊

I would keep monitoring for now as 30g isn’t a big drop x

Yes do keep weighing daily at the same time. The issue is the continual downward trend bid it was a 30g drop then a gain it wouldn’t be as worrying. Are you topping him up?

I would just monitor, he has had trouble with his teeth and sometimes it takes a little while for them to get back “full swing” of eating. I don’t think 30 gms is too bad at all tbh. Just monitor once a day x

Eddie's weight has increased today! :D He's gone up 10g from yesterday so he's now 968g

The crackling noise is so quiet when I listened for it today I thought it had stopped at first. I doubt the vet would even be able to hear it so I'll just keep listening to make sure it doesn't get louder rather than stress Eddie out by taking him to the vets.

I tried to when he wasn't eating properly but he didn't show much interest in them. Maybe I should try it again now he's back to being interested in food in general?

I thought Eddie's poos were back to normal but I've just seen this slimey thing that was on a poo. The picture isn't great but it's the best I could get. It's slimey, sticky and a transparent brown colour. Does anyone know what it is? I'm not 100% sure it's Eddie's but I highly suspect it is as the poor was slightly smaller like Eddie's have been recently.16122038199793827039376770904530.webp

Sorry I have no clue. Hope you find out who it is.

Sorry I don’t know either, I hope you find out who it’s come from/what it is. Sending lots of hugs and hopefully Eddie continues to get better ❤️

Hi again everyone,

At the moment I'm still weighing Eddie daily I'm not sure whether I still need to be. His weight isn't going down but it isn't getting back up to where he was before his teeth problems started either. He's currently between 950g and 990g when he was around 1050g to 1100g.
Is it safer to keep weighing daily? I'd hate to stop weighing and for his weight to drop again without me knowing.

Also, the bottoms of Eddie's back feet look red and there's some dry skin too. Is there anything I can put on them to help?

Regaining weight takes a lot longer than losing it. Feed him normally and he will get there.
It’s a good idea to weigh daily for a little while after they’ve recovered just so you can be sure things are definitely back to normal, but if you’re worried to suddenly go back to weekly but daily is too much, then perhaps weigh two or three times a week for a week or so until you feel confident about going back to weekly
