Did someone say bank holiday?

All fingers crossed for Donald, it’s probably just blood from the operation site getting flushed through x

This may not help, but when i had a burst appendix, after the op i had bloody stools, and my doctor told me not to worry for a while because it is normal. Maybe the same with this. It looked like left picture

Hope Donald’s blood drops in his wee are just a normal part of recovery.
Keeping you in my thoughts

@Lady Kelly Anselmo had two bladder stone surgeries done by Craig and there was blood for a couple of days after for him.

Anselmo's surgery was a bit more straight forward than Donald's as his stone was in his bladder so Donald may bleed a bit more and a bit heavier as it was more invasive for him.

But as he's eating and peeing I would try not to worry too much as he's definitely feeling okay.

I'm not far away so feel free to give me a shout at any time if you need a break or a hand with syringe feeding.

Jen that's so lovely to offer, there's not much more kindness that can be offered above a break from exhaustion. I think Donald's going to be fine, Friday was only two days ago though it already feels like a week. I just heard munching of hay from the dining room and popped my head round to be pleasantly surprised to see daisy chilling in the tunnel and Donald in a pile of hay munching away. Steadily over today he has become harder to syringe feed and is starting to only accept smaller amounts. Now I feel a bit relieved that it's down to him eating for himself.

Their new grain free pellets have arrived and all 4 piggies seem to prefer them to the previous science selective pellets which is excellent and I am sticking to the diet in the guides for bladder pigs. Donald hasn't been too happy with the offering so far apart from the celery (his favourite) but I am determined to do everything I can to prevent having to go through this again.

I just realised how bloody strange this must have looked lol. I am sorry🤣

This morning I got up to numerous overnight poops and some of them were soft/sticky. Donald was in his hay pile eating away. I tried to syringe feed him but only managed 10ml, usually 15-20 as he normally goes crazy for the syringe for the first 5ml but he was fighting it more today. I am assuming this is due to him eating more for himself. I popped him in piggy jail for morning veggies and by the time I had a shower and was ready for work he had eaten his celery, half his cucumber, half his spring green, a quarter of his pepper slice and nibbled on his green bean. Fingers crossed he carries on munching away while I'm at work

Are you having to give an antibiotic incase of infection? And are you giving a pro biotic ? He sounds like hes doing good, such a small animal with such a big op

Yes to both. He's on baytril but I put some probiotic in the water I give him alongside his syringe feed so he's having it several times a day. He did a small wee today but it had no visible blood in so we are definitely heading in the right direction.

It took me 2 hours tonight to get 20ml of cc in to him! That said I also popped him on the scales again and the weight seems to be on the up. Come on Donald I need your help with this now I'm full of lurgy myself

Oh dear Kelly you must look after yourself as well as Donald. How much is he eating for himself?

It is so difficult to dare stop the syringe feeding. I have had it where past pigs of mine got too full up on syringe feeds and wouldnt graze as much as a result and the other way round aswell

The weight gain has given me the confidence to syringe less often and it's very welcome today with being back at work. I will still feed in the morning and after work to help the weight gain but just popped my head in and he's munching away on hay again so I think it will be hard in the morning again.

@Betsy I've woken up with a stonking cold today. Dosed up on paracetamol, carrying a million tissues and just had a sneaky vodka solely for medicinal reasons

Oh dear not good Kelly. Hope you soon feel better! The medicinal vodka will def help. Glad I'm not the only one who does that.

More good news this morning. I interrupted Donald popcorning this morning to do his feed. It was a full fight against the syringe for 10ml but his morning post feed weight is up 20g (I weigh morning and evening) and is now the same as his sat/sun evening weight :yahoo:only downside is a few spots of blood in the cage from scratching his wound so I need to do a twice daily dose of metacam. He's currently on 0.2ml once a day and I have enough to get him to his next appointment on Thursday but will call and see if the vet will give a dose for twice daily. If not I'll just do it myself and ask for more on Thursday. (I had to do this for his abscess op as well as he's a right un for scratching).

In human news my face doesn't feel tired now so I feel safe to drive (yesterday I could have slept standing up) but my glands have swollen up and my nose is still streaming. I'm pretty sure stress has brought this on as I have a lowered immune system anyway. Medicinal vodka must have helped so might have to do that again tonight

Sorry not been on for a couple of days but so pleased to read Donald’s doing so well :) x

Liked your post for Donald, so pleased to hear he's getting better.
Not so good for you though, I do hope you feel better soon.

Aw, there seems to be lots of colds going around down here too at the moment, hope you get rid of it soon x

I always like a tipple when I’m poorly, a nice malt for a cold

Thanks for all the well wishes, another medicinal vodka tonight.

In even better news Donald was happily munching hay when I got home. I gave them their veggies and pellets and he tucked right in to both. When he took a break I weighed him and he weighed more than he did at the same time last night so decided not to syringe feed him as I think he is eating enough on his own now

Donald had his follow up appointment today and thankfully it was free (I just paid for another lot of metacam to keep him comfortable so he doesn't bite/scratch his wound while it's healing). Craig is really happy with his progress and he is at the weight he was when Craig saw him two days before his op so we are heading in the right direction. It has been suggested we aim to get him to 1kg minimum as he's a long piggy. No need to go back now unless I have any concerns.

He also warned me about potential reccurance as well as they fact that he is likely to have damaged his kidneys as well. Obviously I have changed their diets to give him the best chance possible and will continue to monitor him but otherwise my boy is doing well and this weekend I plan to rebond him and daisy with lily and Poppy so they can all go back into the hutch together
