Daisy's Ovary removal

I hope Daisy will bounce back quickly. Pewter had to be sedated for an X-ray a few weeks ago and she didn’t move much the day after either. It took her a good few days until she was fully back to normal. We’ll be keeping all fingers & paws crossed for Daisy swift recovery 💕

The day after surgery is often a bit of a down day tbh. Especially as she’s had the major op. She must be sore all over, poor little thing. Just keep on topping her up with syringe feed, her meds and pain relief, and keep tempting her with he favourite treats like herbs, grass, dandelions etc. Hopefully by tomorrow she will be picking up.

Glad to hear that Daisy is doing well this morning. Sending healing vibes.

I have just dropped Peggy off for an ultrasound of her ovaries and womb. I will find out this evening if she needs to be spayed.

Hope Peggy is doing ok, too.

Sending lots of healing vibes to Daisy, I’m sure she will feel brighter tomorrow x

Hope Daisy feels a bit better today @artcasper, so glad her op went well even if not to plan! Lots of healing vibes from me and my lot x

Hope Peggy is ok and her ultrasound went well too @YvonneBlue :hug:xx

The vet found cysts about 1cm in size on both Peggy's ovaries, plus some thickening of her uterus. They didn't recommend that we spay her at the moment but monitor her behaviour and have 6 monthly ultrasounds. However, i am not sure that this is the best course of action. M concern is that if she needs the operation in say a years time she will then be 6 years old and with this comes a higher risk. I have reached out to Debbie at TEAS for her opinion.

Although our vets is an exotics specialist they only do maybe 1 GP spay maybe every couple of months. So if Peggy needs to be spayed I would prefer to take her to someone with more experience of the procedure.

Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear that, poor little Peggy. Yes I’d think the same with her age too, hope Debbie can help
I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my piggies needing ops than Simon, he really is an amazing vet! Lots of hugs and healing vibes from me and the piglets xx

Aw poor little Peggy. I agree with you, why would you want to leave it another year older. If she needs it doing there’s no point in delaying it and she’s another year older. Simon is a great vet and Debbie does do post operative care too. Piggie would be in the most experienced hands going. Debbie cared for Ted so beautifully when he was up there getting his regular dentals and she and Simon pulled through Ted when he got pneumonia, something I probably couldn’t have done or the vets down here x

Daisy is very very quiet and still.... I am a bit concerned... Her wounds are healing really well so thats good - I will post pics when I get the chance. She isn't eating much hay though - although she has pooped ok since the surgery... She has eaten all her veg etc but in-between is looking very sad in her fleece tunnel.... I have not put her back with Winny and Brownie yet as she is going for a check up tomorrow with the vet ( i thought her chest sounded a bit off so want that checked too )

Watching her all the time and just want to see her scoffing her face like she usually does ( I have given critical at lunch time ) and she has dropped weight but only 5g..

Sorry to hear she’s still quiet bless her, glad her weight’s stable. I’d be inclined to reunite her with Winnie and Brownie to see if it helps a little, as she might be missing them and it may encourage her to eat a bit more when they’re tucking in to hay etc.

yes - I think I will - i did pop brownie in with her yesterday for a bit - I need to clean the cage first so its all neutral !

well that went terribly.... cage was clean - I removed all the hides etc and brownie was a right bully... I supervised for 30 mins and daisy was petrified and didn't eat a thing... Winny was being a lot nicer and gently gave daisy a nudge and laid next to her but brownie kept coming in and climbing over Daisy ... i left them for 30 mins then popped daisy back into the floor run... hopefully it will be better when she is feeling better and not so delicate...

I'm sorry to hear that Daisy is still a bit under the weather. It was at least a week after Hazel's bladder op before she was eating normally again. So hopefully Daisy will improve over the next few days. It really is so worrying when they are poorly. I wish i could speak guinea pig and ask how they are feeling.

Hope all goes well at the vets tomorrow. x

Oh no, I’m so sorry, it was worth a try but sounds like she needs a bit more strength to put Brownie in her place then bless her. Glad she got a piggy hug from Winny. ❤️ I really hope she’s feeling much better soon and can get back with her mates properly. Healing vibes from me and the piggies :hug:x

Hi, just seen this,
Oh little Daisy, , day after a op is nearly the longest ever, you wish all to be ok etc..
Her pooping is good, , keep feeding her I'm sure she pick up,
Me and 3 little piggies lots healing and vibes,

I‘m sorry to hear Daisy still hasn’t picked up and that putting her in with Brownie & Winny didn’t go to plan. Come on Daisy, stuff your pretty face! Sending lots of healing vibes for Daisy and a hug for you 💕

Ar dinner time she ate a tiny bit of cucumber and tons of coriander - wouldn't usually give her that much but.... then she laid happily for a good 15 mins whilst I hand fed her individual strands of hay.... I then popped some fresh Timothy hay out she had a nibble so... slowly slowly.....

Aw, that sounds more promising, she’s had a big op so she’s bound to be off it for a few days x

We have been for daisy's check up this morning. Ellie felt she was a bit gassy so we have some other drug to help. Once the antibiotics stop her tummy might feel better.. wounds are looking good. Chest is all clear - I thought I heard a cackle yesterday.
Daisy is sat with me eating some hay ..

I have without realising under dosed one of her pain meds. The dose was 1ml .. and I did 0.1ml not understanding the syringe..you would think I would know..so have topped her up as soon as we got home... feel terrible and an idiot...

Aw, easily done 😁
Glad Daisy is doing well, I think it’s the anaesthesia that sometimes gives them a crackle, Ted had it once after a dental op x

Easily done with the dosing. Glad she’s had the once over by the vet and all is healing well. I’ll bet she will soon be back to her normal self again.

This a really good update on Daisy, it looks like she's over the worst now.

I did the same thing with metacam once; I hope the full dose speeds her recovery.

Glad to hear that Daisy is getting better. I'm sure she will be back to normal soon.😍
