Could Really Be Doing With Honest Opinions From Pet Owners

Blimey, what a conundrum. Can you do your best to get her weight right up then try to wean her from you a little? She's probably feeling mentally weak as well as physically. Best of luck!
That's what iv been doing for the past 5/6 days. Today iv been giving her just as much one on one time but not feeding with all of them so she still has an appetite to eat on her own. Been doing every 3rd out of cage time as just cuddles and kisses, sometimes we ended up having a nap together haha. It is hard as I recognise she feels she needs me right now and she perks up so much when I fuss her bless her little heart, but I also know how strong willed fudge is and if I continue this longer than she needs it will be extremely difficult to get her to do things for herself again. I just wish there was an easy way to do it without worrying I'm doing her harm.

Have you thought about trying the jumper thing to see if it makes a difference? x

Fresh tunnel for bed time with my not so fresh Tshirt going through it! Iv folded it onto the side of the correx so it doesn't get pulled about, don't want her laying on top of it as she'll get soaking as apposed to being on the absorbent fleece in her tunnel. But she can still smell it and will be beside her x

Keep going! You're going to get there, just when Fudge allows it
How is she health wise now? Have you noticed big changes in her usual health since her op?

Well the piggy cam showed her at her pellets 6 times overnight and her water another 9 times! So she's definately still improving. Her heart issue is still stable, colours good and breathing isn't too bad. She was really stiff from her arthritis post op because of the lack of movement for days but this has all calmed down now. Other than her weight being at 920g, everything else is coming along nicely. She is normally 1020g but was 980g the day of her op, then obviously they removed ovaries and her womb so her weight isn't really all that bad, just a bit daunting for me as she's never weighed this much before. Hopefully over time the weight will go back on but that is not easy in an elderly pig x

Wow! Your lovely cream and efforts are paying off. You've truly gone above and beyond for lucky Fudge

Hopefully not tempting fate here... Fudge has been fully independent for the past 24 hours and eating her pellets, hay and water in her cage. Iv been keeping a very close eye on her hydration, weight and poos and all has been well... Even gained a little 10g all by herself! Thanks to mums homemade forage which is going down a treat wth everyone! She is now only on her magic tummy powder once a day, and poos are only slightly soft when it's due so it shouldn't be long before I can stop it altogether.

We where at the vet today as madam pulled a scab and suture out as the body was rejecting it , it was the bottom stitch (most important!) so she had it glued shut and she was very brave!

The vet is very pleased with her as they too where very worried for a while due to her lack of progress.

Here's hoping we keep on the right track.. It's been a long 2 weeks!

Thank you :-) the powder is A mix of slippery elm bark powder and white poplar bark powder. It's a herbal remedy for inflammation in the guts so is great for upset tummys if inflammation is the problem, which it appears to be in fudge! It's really been a big part of helping her recovery, as without it she would still be having diarrohea, tummy cramps and likely be dehydrated. It's made by dorwest herbs, my dog has it twice a day for ibs type problems x

That's interesting :) I've used ASAP powder from Galen's Garden, that is good :)
Does it have slippery elm in it too? The dorwest is 80% that and 20% white poplar I think. When I looked it up, I was suprised how widely humans use it too. I've tried the urinary tincture and the diuretic support from galens garden but they where both far too harsh for my 2 pigs stomachs, even at a tiny volume x

What dosage of the Dorwest powder do you give Fudge? I'm going to order it for my girls. One has Candida in her gut and the other appears to have IBS. Glad Fudge is doing well.

As it's herbal, there isn't an exact dosage and fudge has needed varying amounts depending on how her guts are.. And ofcourse every pig is different. She was on a pea sized pinch every 8 hours when it was bad and now only needs about half of that once a day. Start on a small amount and as always, consult with your vet incase there's any reason your particular pig shouldn't be using it :-)

Thank you.

Fudges wound that was glued yesterday at the bottom after she pulled a scab off, has reopened ! Bled again when cleaned so is still too open to leave it be.. Vets again in half hour!

So glad shes doing well Adelle. I have that dorwest tree barks powder in my dogs first aid kit! Never even thought about being able to use it for pigs. Very handy to know!

Yes it does :) It's great stuff :) They also sell dried Shepherd's Purse which is supposed to help, but my Petal wouldn't eat it :) How is she now? Did they re-glue the wound? xx

She's fine :-) no glue this time as the knot they where trying to tuck back in is now gone (naughty girl) so it's been left and to be kept clean with hibi scrub X

You have been so dedicated to Fudge, Adelle, hopefully as she goes on & on. Improving all the time, you can relax.
Healing hugs coming, to you both.:yahoo::clap::luv:
