Could Really Be Doing With Honest Opinions From Pet Owners

So wonderful to hear she made it through surgery! You are an amazing owner who is so dedicated to her and your care has truly paid off :)! Fudge looks so sweet all curled up in her blankets.

I wish a speedy recovery :) and hope she feels better soon.

You should get some rest as you won't be a good slave for them if you can't keep your eyes open.

@Adelle so happy to hear Fudge pulled through and it sounds as though she made it look a piece of cake. I'm glad your decision worked out for the better and it sounds like you've saved Fudge from what could have been a very painful problem. Huge hugs to you all whilst she recovers as I know it must be a tense time. :)

Thanks everyone. My sleep total is up to about 7 hours since Friday, iv had 3 meals and realised of be having about 1 drink a day when my kidneys started to hurt!

Been doing washings and housework today which is tiring onto of everything else but getting a break from not being in the same room as fudge and all her meds and sheets has actually helped.

Her progress is up and down as is her demeanour and appetite. She didn't see the vet today as she needed a break and there wasn't any decline, just spoke on the phone and aired my concerns about her pain relief plan as she is walking near enough normal now.. Problem is she doesn't actually want to move and I think it's because she's out her face!

Have stopped the vetergesic and she does seem a bit fluffed up now but seems more alert and has actually started to do "fudge things" again like rumble if crunchie tried to join her in the hay, try and nip me if I touch her chest to clean it but the best part.. She's giving me kisses again! Not going to lie, I cried when she done it!

Will tweak her other pain killer to try and make her a comfy again but it's better that she's less out of it as she will hopefully start to eat better.

She has picked at hay a couple of times but nothing significant, changes her mind every 2 hours as to what veg she wants (she needs it for hydration due to her diuretics) and has decided in the last hour that thick blades of grass are heaven and the thin pieces are he'll... Cue me going a walk for more grass as fudges garden only has thin blades!

She has started laying more normally too but still isn't properly sleeping, she's been fighting it since her op. Just typical of fudges nature!

Despite all that she hasn't lost any weight.. My hourly feeds are paying off at least.

Hi everyone, sorry for the delay but it's been a pretty horrible time.

Fudge sailed her surgery on Friday and I just couldn't believe it, the epidural didn't work so she had a full gas anaesthetic and her heart and lungs where completely stable throughout and in recovery. She was up and eating dandelion leaves within 5 minutes! Both ovaries where cystic and her uterus was inflamed, which would've likely turned into a pyometra so I made the right call.

That night fudge was totally out of it but seemed to get more sedate tater than brighter as the pain relief wore off. She wouldn't stand her back end up and refused to eat anything other than grass and wouldn't swallow critical care or water . She was totally pinned and her eyes where wide wide open- she fought sleep for over 24 hours.

I thought it was a reaction to the pain relief but upon seeing the vet they said it was actually due to pain. Because the vet was so panicked about fudges heart, she pretty much whipped the ovaries and womb out and said there would be more trauma than the average SpAy.

Fudges guts slowed to an alarmingly slow pace and stopped pooing altogether despite max dose gut stimulants. I stayed awake for 48 hours with hourly feeds and massages and heat.

She has saw the vet everyday side her op including an out of hours visit for a pain relief top up.

There may be dental spurs now due to not eating hay for so long, her teeth sound uneven when chewing.

We finally managed to get her pain to a more manageable level and last night she ate a small amount of hay for the first time!

This has kick started the guts and her gut sounds are picking up.

She can now move around better and is taking her syringe feed and water. She eats a small amount of hay before each feeding. We are still on hourly feeds to keep the guts ticking over.

I'm praying over the next couple of days her appetite keeps improving and she eats more hay- which will sort her guts out.

Her teeth have been a big bump in the road due to the pain post op.. And she has had a bit of nasal congestion overnight so is on a 3 day septrin course just to stop anything setting in. Her lungs where clear at the vet this morning and she was noticeably brighter. Her poos are slowly coming , long May that continue!

We aren't out of the woods yet, it's been a horribly difficult few days but I'm focusing on her progress which I was worried I would never see.

Keep her in your thoughts and prayers.. She is one tough cookie and I'm so proud of her x

What a superstar, well done fudge x

Its wonderful to read of Fudge's progress! Your care of her is amazing, and your bond is very special.

Fudge and I had a bit of a face off last night...

She'd massively perked up overnight and seemed brighter with each round of feed and meds during the night. By 4am she was actually looking for her food! For the past 5 days she has been refusing to swallow ANYTHING unless she gets a blade of grass with each mouthful. She refused her hay and anytime she would have a nibble it would be over just as quick.

So it's 4am, I am beyond shattered and fudge is on my bed looking for her grass. I gave her a mouthful of critical care and true to form.. Refused to swallow it! It was raining and the middle of the night..her guts are really bad due to the ridiculous amount of wet grass she needed just to swallow anything... And she clearly had an appetite right now so I decided to call her bluff.

Plonked a pile of hay intront of her where she quickly screwed er face up.. She teeth chattered and mumbled at me for a whole 10 minutes until she finally caved and ate her hay!

Her syringe feed afterwards involved another face off where I refused to give her another mouthful until she realised there was no grass... And since then, she has apparently remembered how to swallow!

She also protested at me feeding her veg in her cage like a peasant but only teeth chatered for about 30 seconds before realising she wasn't getting handfed and she got stuck in!

She's still clinging to a syringe for water but will use the bottle if I hold it

Since our gruelling face off at 4am, fudge has gone from strength to strength. She (to her dislike) is gaining back some of her independence and is taking top up feeds very well. She is more active in her cage and has only started moving from the spot I left her in just this morning.. She could move- she just didn't want to as new mummy would be back in an hour! She's finally started sleeping properly and to see her trot off into her hay for a munch then a snooze is just amazing. The morning previously I was still crying about her general state!

So much progress since just last night and I am thrilled :luv:

Wow! I wish there were piggy awards for courage and determination. What an amazing story. Xx

You poor thing! Naughty miss Fudge. Such a diva XD She certainly has you wrapped round her little paw.

I'm so relieved with every post you put about her recovery, it's nice to see she's well enough to be demanding and stubborn :))

Oh little Fudge, you bring a smile to my face every time I read an update about you getting better. Keep going you cheeky little fighter.
Glad your Mummy won in the end which means you are eating for yourself.
Both (Mummy and you) of your resilience and determination has never ceased to amaze me.
