COVID-19 Coronavirus

I have 7 bags of b and m hay in at the moment. I've been going in every day for a week and they Havnt got anymore in atall. Might just be because there's been no deliveries yet.. I hope so, the bags are small though, so one bag lasts around 3 to 4 days of refreshing twice a day in the cage for 2 guinea pigs. I've noticed pets at home are out of stock with the alfalfa King Timothy, so I'm going to look in the farm shop for the big bags of meadow hay
I didn't want to become like this, but it's finding the line between being too proud to start stocking and too layed back to just sit back and do nothing

I know what you mean. . I thought my pigs need hay and did buy a large bag from B&M last week which I would have gotten anyway just a week earlier than usual...

Shops are crazy... Think the message about Ireland closing down schools didn't help in England. Noticed bleach, pasta, flour, cleaning products, and sanitary items are going. Soap is on blink of extinction, let alone any antibac gel/soap...

I have about 2 months worth of hay delivered at a time (it's cheaper that way) and had my normal delivery this week. My main concern for the piggies is fresh veg but we have 2 lawns which have started growing again now. I've got some seeds for growing herbs and veg, just need the compost now and hopefully I can keep those tummies full!

Can always buy a hand held steam cleaner for home

I buy 10 bales at a time, I use 1 a week, but they are stored at my friends stable so I might move an extra bale or 2 home so like you veg would be my biggest challenge especially as its so early for anything to grow. Thankfully the rabbits are not so dependant on it as the piggies and the rats can eat pretty much anything so they'll get fed even if it isn't necessarily the ideal. The dogs are another issue because they are raw fed and I can only store so much.

Yes I have rats too, and I don't worry about them, its only the grazing side of things with guinea pigs that's the worry. The rats can survive on kibble and human food ( that's if we have any lol)

The Guinea pigs will get vit c from fresh grass, and nuggets and other vitamins they need

Yes whilst the levels in nuggets may of deteriorated somewhat its probably sufficient to maintain them in the short term.

I keep them in an air tight cereal container. A bag lasts my two for about 3 months

Are you saying pets at home have nothing in?
They do just not the brand she has... Worst case illl change herr over just didn't want to with her spay a week and half away don't want her to have an upset tummy, I still have eenoughh for a week though 😊

OK, I was going to say wow that's bad. But I see now 👍

i have 5 10kg bales of hay in. i go through 10 kg a week keeping the pigs warm. also i have a dustbin full of pellets. i have to get more hay though since it will run out

I know normally we never give piggies thawed frozen veg but if there was difficulty shopping, I was thinking what would the problem be to get some plain, additive free frozen brocolli and sliced peppers?

I think they loose their nutrients when frozen but I'm no expert

Went shopping today. Not a loo roll in sight :(

Loads here in 2 shops yesterday but no soap of any sort!
I've ear marked a lovely big patch of large leaves on one of my walks in case the loo roll runs out. We didn't have loo roll when I was a child it hadn't been invented, but then we didn't have an inside toilet either.

I feel like I am living in a dream world at the minute. It's happening but is it really? That kind of dream world where you don't really know what to do or believe.

So the UK are now in the 'delay' phase. This differs from containment how?! No change in the situation from our delightful PM. Just to "wash hands" and "many people will die". Oh so that's ok. Who knows what kind of situation the country will be in by tomorrow never mind this time next week!

No official cases in Doncaster yet. Local press did an article about paramedics in suits but turns out they were doing some annual training. I'm getting fed up of people saying its "just a cold" or "I'm not bothered about it".

I am lucky enough to have a meadow at the end of my road with lovely grass and piggy friendly weeds which never get chemicals bunged on them. I have quite afew rabbits and guinea pigs and wouldn't be able to stockpile significant amounts of hay etc so I might need to rely on the meadow if hay and pellet supplies get iffy.

I don't know weather to be worried or not...you just never know who or where it could be coming from.
I deffo think they should close schools though,I took my son out of school this afternoon..they were going to a school trip to the theatre and I panicked about him going.don't know if i should send him back on Monday or not.
Am I wrong to be doing this?
The doctor on the ITV news tonight said the Government should have closed schools so I can't be overreacting that much can I?

I am sending my kids to school unless they close. I am worried about it because myself and two of the children have asthma - and it only flares up when we have colds/coughs. But apart from that we are healthy. So I live in hope. But then I worry about passing it onto older people at church who aren’t as in good health etc.

I guess it’s a case of wait and see. The girls’ school has already set up some online learning platform logins - preempting things I guess.

Seems they're definitely planning to shut the schools, but not yet, otherwise they'd need to be shut for too long.
I'm concerned for elderly relatives and saddened about the people who have lost their lives but it is a relief it doesn't seem to be targeting our children.

Unless they close were still going ahead with normal activities, I've got the pet foods I needed to buy anyway ordered but I certainly haven't stockpiled anything in fact we're actually running pretty low on human supply's, need to do a shop either tomorrow or Saturday 🙄

I will admit, because past experience living in some unpleasant war zones, I tend to keep about 3 months basic ration of everything in the house at any given time, for us and the pigs. I have another 16kg's of hay arriving tomorrow, making my total in the house about 35kg's ish. I have 2 lawns I can cull grass from and we grow a lot of our own veggies...did I mention past experience has taught me to back stuff up here...yeah...

Up until yesterday, when other European countries started locking down, a lot of people around me were laughing at me and calling me paranoid. That's stopped now and they're asking me where to source things from. I feel for anyone who has been starkly smacked in the face with this from a stand point of "normal life doesn't stop here, don't be silly". Normal life stops everywhere at some points in time, but people are incredible if you just let them try. Hang in there folks, and please, consider looking after those around you who are going to struggle. Maybe drop some donations in to the foodbanks, if you can spare it, they're really having a hard time getting donations in and the supermarkets are not holding back stock for them. Animal charities and rescue centres too, they're going to struggle to find things easily as well.
