COVID-19 Coronavirus

One of my primary school teachers asked my mum to keep me home for a week once. I'd picked up a really nasty case of impetigo (my entire chin was crusted along with a cut on the side of my hand that got infected with it too) and my mum was apparently assuming I'd still be going to school. My teacher had taught me in P2 and then again in P5 and she basically said "he's not well. He can't read properly, can't understand properly, isn't taking anything in - and no, it's not because he's not paying attention. He's exhausted, give him a week."

She was a damned good teacher. She left to teach in England after that year, then at some point moved back to NI to teach Music at a local secondary school. As for my mother, well...that was her attitude to everything. It was just the first time someone told her to back off about it lol.

Hope your grandads OK!
Were all business as normal here, ii haven't stocked up on anything at all 😂 in fact we're running low on a few things 🙈 people are clearing the shelves of baby formula 🤷‍♀️ all babies need to eat! I breastfeed so it doesn't effect us but all babies need milk, parents shouldn't be clearing the shelves! 🙄 Nappies too 🙄
On a side note, bad cold with fever (my 6yo) not been abroad so I'm not anymore worried than the fact she really isn't well, she went to school today as teacher said it was OK business as normal they are keen to keep attendance up, but she's come home worse, should I keep her home tomorrow if she's no better? Temps been 39+ and she's so pale and tired
I would keep her off if you can... you try and keep them going but sometimes they need a day off to rest and sleep it off .. hope she is better soon x

A friend shared this pic with me today, think it really helps compare Coronavirus with other common ailments quite well

From looking at that I'd say she has flu, but that seems drastic too and she's vaccinated, she has a fever, dry cough, aches, tiredness, headache, no snuffly nose, no diahhrea, no shortness of breath, no sneezing either way I only sent her today as she looked better, I won't be sending her tomorrow a day of rest will do her the world of good xx

I mean, flu is a viral infection as is a cold. It could just be a particularly nasty viral infection that is neither cold nor flu - I've had one, they're not fun, but it cleared up in about 5 days so it couldn't have been flu. Also, the flu vaccine doesn't cover all forms of flu, it covers the ones scientists believe are going to be the biggest issue during the flu season - there's so many different flu viruses out there it's impossible to account for them all in one vaccine.

Yeah i think it's just a viral infection, to clarify I never thought it was coronavirus we haven't left the UK or been in close contact with anyone affected, kids bring all sorts of virus' home from school don't they 🙈, I just couldn't decide between trust my parental instincts and keep her home for a day of rest to recover better or listen to the school pushing attendance 🙈 I'm annoyed they didn't call me today as she was obviously not well when her dad picked her up she said she'd started feeling really poorly again before lunch (time the calpol would've worn off) and the teacher just told her to get a drink of water 🤦‍♀️

I get the need for good attendance in school but pushing constantly for 100% only helps numbers in books. It doesn't help the kids, it's not like they control getting sick. I'm forever grateful for my P5 teacher because she got it, she understood. She looked after her classes in a way a lot of teachers don't feel necessary.

Hilariously the next time something like that happened I was 14 and missed two days of school (it started over the weekend) and she didn't argue about me being ill once. Apparently my dad thought I might be faking it as did my teachers because coincidentally, those two days were when my mock exams were being held lol. But she said no, I was definitely sick, I hadn't tried to go near the computer all weekend. Snort.

I'm the same, if a childs ill they are ill, this morning she said she wanted to go, looked OK just still had a headache so asked for calpol, then she came home white as a ghost, burning hot and went straight to sleep. She loves school, she's doing great academically and always works really hard, she's allowed a day off, I'll say all this and she'll wake up tomorrow like nothing ever happened won't she 😂 childminder on the other hand won't take them with so much as a sniffle 😂

Heard this yesterday:
SARS, Bird flu, Swine flu, ISIS and now Coronavirus- all trying to kill us, but it is fear that is really killing us. So turn off the TV, pray and wash your hands
I remember swine flu and I'm sure there wasn't half as much panic back then? 🤷‍♀️ I don't remember empty supermarket shelves but I was only a teenager back then 🙄🙄

That’s cause it didn’t transmit like this.

we have had nothing like this since 1918 and I doubt no one on the forum was around then.

We need a plan may I suggest....

Same here in South yorks 😂😂

Yeah, I’m wolves I am sure it is going to take the roof off.... crazy weather here too

I was thinking about doing a 3am run to Tesco but between that wind and the occasional torrential downpour of hailstones, I think I might just chance my arm with deliveries instead this week lol. Wind like that gives me the heebie jeebies.

Don't mean to scare anyone but I'm going to have to start planning ahead and prepping for it. My animals will be coming first. So I'm going to stock up on hay, but I'm going to do a big drive round loads of different shops and not just stock up from one shop. Just incase the UK follows Italy and closes down everything apart from pharmacies and food shops

The kitten food Effie has is out of stock everywhere 🙄 this is where I think I should've got an extra bag 🙄 plenty of other kitten food around so worst case I'll just change her over still have eenoughh for up to a week anyway 😊 think I may order an extra bag of hay and nuggets just incase they go out of stock too 🙄

Worry about hay first, then cat food, nuggets will be fine I'm sure of it. Atleast a cat can eat stuff it's hunted, probably not the best diet but itl survive won't it? I don't know much about cats

I mean guinea pigs will be fine on picked grass, but itl be a huge effort keeping a constant supply going in the cage all day. My wife works in a primary school and she has asthma😕

I order hay online anyway if I order now I'll get a bale Monday it comes from Scotland, I'll order hay I think, I have a full bag and a part bag of my elderly cats prescription food, 3 weeks worth of steroids for her, 2weeks of metacam for princess and 2 weeks of tramadol she has laser therapy Tuesday so I'll order more metacam and tramadol then... Puppy food I have a full bag and a part bag again, I have plenty of Nappies and I breastfeed/they all eat proper food so no worries about baby food, kitten is too young to go outside so she can't hunt yet 😂

Honestly I know I'm going to get replies to me now, saying don't worry, itl be fine. I've made me decision, people in my family keep saying, don't be ridiculous, hay won't get stockpiled, it's not in every household like toilet paper, but they are not thinking that's its not as big a market as toilet paper, itl be the same difference.

Ordering hay online is good, but if work places close, no one will be there to deliver it

I have 7 bags of b and m hay in at the moment. I've been going in every day for a week and they Havnt got anymore in atall. Might just be because there's been no deliveries yet.. I hope so, the bags are small though, so one bag lasts around 3 to 4 days of refreshing twice a day in the cage for 2 guinea pigs. I've noticed pets at home are out of stock with the alfalfa King Timothy, so I'm going to look in the farm shop for the big bags of meadow hay
