COVID-19 Coronavirus

Glad you could get it all sorted. Your vet sounds lovely x
Ive never met this locum but she was lovely, I have never had a vet at this practice that has been anything short of amazing, the locum rang to check in as she read the notes when dispensing and said it sounded like the vet was worried at the last vet check a month ago but she sees she's been having laser therapy with the nurse, I told her we were all so very worried about her a month ago but between the laser therapy and the tramadol she's like a new piggy! Long may it continue and long may we have access to this so important vet care ❤️ my vets are inside pets at home they can only be open when the store is I do worry for if it closes as I don't think the emergency vets have a laser and it's made such a difference to Ps quality of life ❤️ xx

I sent you a donation yesterday. If I've got a bit of money spare near the end of the month, I'll send some more. It must be a very worrying time xx
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your kindness. Having to cancel the event has been such a blow. I’m scared of running out of money, worried in case the vets close due to staff shortages. I’ve got a very poorly piggy at the moment too! Feeling very anxious!

I'm not surprised you're worried. I'll get harvey(you probably remember him, you met him at the vets before when I couldn't go) to send a donation too. I know he'd be willing to help xx

I did too and very chuffed to find out I’d actually been awarded PIP yesterday so will send another one when I get my first payment :)x

Is there any way Simon would treat him in your home or in his if the vets closed? Or is that against licensing or whatnot. Might be worth getting a back up plan. Just an idea, I'm guessing what could be done at someone's home you can do yourself anyway though. Probably need specialist tools all sanitised

What's with the toilet paper thing? I mean, it's happening everywhere, it's crazy XD

We've been in lockdown since saturday/sunday. I've been at home for a week now (I work from home due to the covid), only going out for groceries (just twice) and everytime I had to go out my anxiety levels went crazy. I wish I could stay at home 24/7 but there are no slots left until the last week of March for online groceries... If only people didn't buy a year's worth of food... :mal: I'm trying to convince my mother to wait until we can get that online order so I don't have to go out again..
Also according to a graph on the internet our curve (Spain) is already steeper than Italy's in the same day...

I also got the news that today a cousin of mine was tested because he had symptoms. He works at a really popular grocery store chain here so... :(

I'm sorry it's not a good post, some days it just gets hard...

Yes there is - social distancing works - we just need to tough it out and it will get better.
Look at case numbers in places who have strongly enforced shut downs - the case numbers plateau within a week to 10 days.
We can get it under control if we are all sensible and calm and work together.
It is an incredible time to be alive, and we all have a chance to be part of this truly huge event in world history.
Another good news is looks like the self-isolation is doing good to the environment. There are news that air quality in countries on lockdown are getting better, water in canals in Venice are much clearer! We can clearly see the effect of mankind to the destruction of the environment and just a few weeks of being on lockdown, there are changes.

Just checking in on everyone here and sending love to everyone. I've sent donations to everyone I can, but sadly I'm out of spare cash now. All we can do is help each other out and know that this WILL end. It will. Even without the social distancing and isolation systems in place, the virus will burn itself out. Now that's not to say it won't come back, but when it does, we'll all be ready, the treatment drugs currently being tested and assessed will be ready, the vaccine will be in progress, people will be more aware and healthcare will have MUCH less stress on it as a direct result of all of this.

I know it feels very dark at the moment, but think of this:
This is the first pandemic in a modern world. Even 20 years ago, this would have decimated the world, now, look at how many lives are being saved daily. As I'm typing this, the world total of recovered known cases is 85,782. That's 85k in SAVED LIVES. And those are just the ones we know of, there are undoubtedly hundreds of thousands more that were so mild they didn't even register.
The internet has allowed massive data sharing between health services and science that means crowd sourced medicines and vaccines are now possible in ways that no previous century has seen.
International assistance has been shared between stricken countries in ways unseen since war times. China has just sent medics and equipment to Italy because the Chinese figures have dropped so much.

There is hope, just know that everyone is in this together.

would it be helpful if I ran up a list of resources for people in all situations? I come across a lot of things online, I could probably compile some sort of help list.

I have called school to see if my daughter can go in and get her school books.... they are under a lot of stress and open today & Friday some students.. it's such a worry to think they could be off for months...I am trying to not worry today and have cleaned all the pigs cage out to distract my mind!

From my time at school, which is just under a decade ago, students are put under so much pressure and they're told that GCSEs and A-levels are so life-defining that there's an element of tunnel vision, which I've noticed on social media too, in the grand scheme of things they're not really important, after a few years barely anyone even asks about them. We're in a national crisis, I think the best comparison is the mass evacuation of children in 1940, then it was to protect them, now it's to protect their grandparents.

Well, the Huns, the Vandals, the Goths, the Mongols, the Tartars and the Turks have all been and gone at the local supermarket.
I left a rather disconsolate student in uncontested possession of the very last single carrot and the other two remaining peppers.

This is my piggy veg haul for 26 piggies for 3 days! Lawn, here we come...

:yikes::yikes:
I hope it's not like that tomorrow, I've got to do my weekly shop including veg for the week for us humans and the piggies. I'd use a greengrocer for the fruit and veg, but such shops don't seem to exist any more in most places :(

Feeling a little sad today. Tough day at work. I'm sat at the back of the bus so sweating & panicking because I feel warm ☹ I know I only feel warm because I ran for the bus and am now sat on the engine... paranoia is on top form today.

Thinking what else I can do to keep mum safe....

This time the urban environment is against you!

Anyway, I am going to manage! I am thankfully pretty good at improvising and have had plenty of occasion to practise between my MIL in and out of hospital in Wales, usually as an emergency (I might see hub again in 2-3 days or 2-3 weeks) and then hub being so ill and his appetite very capricious for months.

The piggies can make do, too, as there is fresh grass outside in a pinch to help supplement the diet. At some point supply will catch up with demand.

I'm crossing my fingers I'll be able to get something, red peppers are one of the few veg my son eats, fortunately I've only 3 piggies to feed in addition. I've got ample grass here but I've noticed lately that the pigs' poops are a bit smelly so I wonder if the grass I'm giving is too rich or too much already...

I managed to get crispy florette and peppers today 😊 the rest of the shelves were empty however not a loaf of bread to be seen 🙄 I got a singular pack of baby wipes, there were 5 on the shelf but one will see us through a few days and I didn't want to be greedy wipes we would survive without 😂

I've just lost a chunk of filling, so now I have to try and get an emergency dentist appointment before the one I had already booked for it on Monday...yay...
I really want it sorted sooner than later at the moment too. Hoping everyone's still doing ok out there in the shops!

Is your dentist still doing appointments? Our dentist (Bupa) has called cancelling all appointments as per advised because of the virus.

So even the local independant shops here are now out of milk, bread, flour, pasta, toilet roll, butter, pork, beef and chicken, bare shelves everywhere - except for frozen veg, which isn't unsurprising.

These shops are all in a crescent around a large pub, the pub has been closed for close to a year, so juxtaposed with the ravaged shops, in a crisis where there's no risk of anyone starving to death - half the town had decided to visit the pub on its reopening, hordes of smokers outside etc, completely braindead, completely the opposite of the government advice, what kind of broken-brained morons buy a years worth of calories because of a pandemic and then decide to bask in clouds of smoke and aerosolised virus.

Well, I was able to book the one for Monday yesterday, and they sent out an email saying they would remain open as long as they could, with extended cleanliness procedures, so I'm really hoping so!

Anything new in the PMs update from today? My brain is too frazzled to look ☹

PM has been looking rather frazzled, that job ages people prematurely in the best of times. Essentially reiteration of policy points, reiterating financial measures for workers being announced tomorrow, denied that the army had suddenly grown anywhere near large enough to quarantine Greater London, mentioned that a patient is undergoing stage 1 trials on an experimental vaccine, mentioned that there may be an antibody test in a few months, which we may buy if it works, which it might not, urged everyone to keep washing hands, avoiding non-essential contact, stop buying everything, national crisis, war, pull together etc.

Queen released a statement thanking key workers, scientists and urging public to take precautions etc.

Prince Phillip appears to still be alive.

Maffaking has been relieved.

EDIT TO ADD - Oh and the PM has suggested to the press lobby that - although they were all sitting away from eachother that the optics of having a large group of people sat together weren't brilliant, so he's going to try and take questions from them remotely in future.

Thanks @Falken sounds like more of the same.

What a year we are having ☹

Also the bill before the house outlining additional powers - most of it just comes down to relaxing requirements in certain areas (one Drs approval instead of two under the Mental Health Act etc), removes the requirement for two Drs to countersign cremation requests, removes requirement for inquests into deaths caused by notifiable diseases in the case of COVID19, removes the offence of a relative filling in a cremation request, allows local authorities to commandeer 'death managment services' - funeral directors etc if the situation requires, removes some requirements under the Investigatory Powers Act in terms of approval (we are still at risk of terrorist attack of course).

There's a new requirement to provide services for the children of key workers in schools, the requirement for coumpulsory attendance at schools has been removed (although it's been unenforced for weeks now), requirements for SEN plans in schools removed or relaxed, removal of barriers to former NHS workers returning, including removing the current 16 hour limit for returning staff. Changes to social care in LAs, relaxation of care plans and statutory minimums for those not in greatest risk, approval for undergraduate social workers to join the workforce and perform duties.

Added powers for police to enforce quarantine etc.

There's probably more I've missed, but considering that yesterday the usual frothing mob were going mad about it essentially being the equivalent of Hitler's 'Enabling Act' of 1933, it's quite tame, is reviewed every six months - and frankly, if the government wanted to do anything drastic, there's already emergency legislation for that sort of thing anyway.
