Specialist Cocoa Poorly Lip And Congested. Pls Help. Photos

Hiya. How’s Holly? Cocoas swollen lip hasn’t improved as of yet. Fingers & paws crossed for both x
What a strange problem you’re having with Cocoa. Thought that it would have cleared up by now. x
Holly appears to be fine now. Meds finished so just hoping she’s over the UTI. I’ve had her on Fibreplex, Critical Care, Cranberry powder etc etc!
Trying to keep her weight stable as she dropped quite a bit when she had the UTI. She’s 6 in June too so thought at first her age was effecting her weight. Vet says she’s in great condition for an older piggy.

Try the metacam and see whether it is working. It is not just a painkiller but also an anti-inflammatory, which is why your vet is using it - it is hopefully helping with swelling down the lip.
If not, contact your vet again and consider whether it is a bacterial or fungal problem or an allergic reaction. It can be a secondary problem following on of the original problem.

Whatever it is, it is pretty unusual. We haven't seen it on this forum before, so are guessing as much as your vet. :(

Pic isn't very clear. What does the skin look like? Is it dry? We have had a pig with some swelling around the lip area, that was caused by an incisor rubbing, breaking the skin and fungal got in. It was sorted with a combination of Zithromax, Itrafungal and Metacam. However, can't see the pic clear enough to see if what you are dealing with is really similar or not.

She's a live wire and will not pose for a clear photo. Will try again tonight at meds time. The skin is ok like smooth not dry or flake. Just bold and little bigger. I try find better photo.

Poor thing! I've never seen that before... it doesn't look inflamed/infected or abscessed from the side that we can see (i.e. not her inner lip.) Is the vet able to see the inside of the lip to see if there is any irritation or break in the skin? It is so hard to see inside their little mouths! I hope it clears up for you- it's good that it isn't bothering her, at least!

on Monday we back at vets and i will ask for this. @Hoppity.K I'm sure did ask. She was so laid back this morning she dropped some food whilst in the cube 20171225_171435.webpold photo
she couldnt be bothered to get out and collect it. She just bent forward a long way and collected it. :lol!:

Not seen anything like that before either, the Metacam should help with any inflammation though. Wiebke, I was wondering about an allergic reaction too.

Bless her
As regards to possible allergies, has she had any different food recently or been in contact with anything different? Just a thought.
Huge hugs little Cocoa x

The lip could be fungal from your clearer picture?
Thanks All. I'm really useless when a animal is ill or unhappy.
Tonight at meds just before food I'm going to be a bad daddy and have a long look and try see inside her lip. and take photos. But I chicken out if she shows signs of stressin. Come in Cocoa. xx

Here’s a photo of Cocoa a few mins ago. Thanks for your suggestions of fungal it’s much appreciated. Shes taken her metacam well & has eaten her veggies at tea time. Think we gonna see if our piggy savvy vet is available tomorrow & ring vets in morning.9BA8E813-7215-43BE-BC70-C2BAA8B6DDAA.webp

That does have the look of fungal plaques. But I’m no expert. Hope the vet can get to the bottom of it. And I’m sure she’s taking her metacam like a good girl. In my house we call them metacam junkies, as they all go mad for the smell of it and try to rob the syringe off me.
