Specialist Cocoa Poorly Lip And Congested. Pls Help. Photos

Will do she's such a trooper and I'm so proud of her. Again her weight is ok and it does go up and down but its steady.
She must be so fed up of photos and humans poking her
I caught her before giving herself a good wash and I was pls. Means course her lip is not giving her pain. Tho she screamed last Wed giving a raw sample.
I was a bad daddy. She gave me a free wee.. .

Good news :yahoo:
We’ve had it confirmed from vets that it’s not mites, ringworm, fungal or bacteria. But they’re doing another culture fungal test.
(Something’s caused this sore lip of hers.)
We’ve got to apply a diluted chlorhexidine gluconate shampoo twice a day.
She’s currently munching on hay with the other two! She’s such a sweetheart

I'm glad you've had some good news. Although I do hate it when you get these 'well it'a not' situations when you really want to know what it is! C ome on Cocoa get better soon. X

Is it improving, getting worse or just staying the same?
Hello thanks for asking.
It's very strange how it appeared.
We been away for couple day and returned approx 5 weeks ago and after a cuddle we notice her bottom lip to be bald and I'm being honest we thought swollen. Hence after a vet visit we treated it for injury or slight trauma.
Some days seems a little scabby some days I think it's clearing up.
Hence now we had these test done and gettin clear results. I'm not going to leave it hopin for it to go. Off course I would love it too.
She's herself. Cleaning and she's the runt of the three keeping on her toes when needed too.
Her weight is steady and to be honest probly getting totally fed up of humans staring at her. :lol!:
If it had spread to all bottom lip I would have notice and taken action. It's just on her right and as we look her left.
Bless Cocoa taken all medicines and at lap time settles soon into a rhythm of pure delight of bonding.
We as you all love our piggies and this one is giving us headache and big bills but I would not change anything as long as she's not suffering and keeps moaning when approprate then We will carry on. Basically we love her. xx

What a super girl you have. So brave! I really hope you get to the bottom of it soon.

I've seen pigs have reactions around their mouths to acidic foods but you would have thought it would have been a problem already if she was eating something that reacted.

Hoping that this new medication works for her lip, or that the new cultures shed some more light on things. Very pleased it isn't ringworm though.

If her URI seems to keep coming back persistently then I would maybe ask the vets to try a different antibiotic to treat it. My Daisy has had a few recurrent URI's. The first she had she was given baytril which cleared it and then a week later she was bad again. Was taken to an exotics vet and given doxycycline and metcam for 2 weeks this really helped as is a much stronger antibiotic. This time she has just finished a 2 week course of sulfatrim/septrin which improved her breathing from day one. Time will tell if it re-occurs as she only finished it yesterday.
But baytril doesn't work for Daisy so may not work for Cocoa it may be worth talking to the new vets about other treatment for her URI.
Fingers crossed for your little girl xx

Good question. It's like a sting that causes a reaction or could be reaction to a certain food. . .after 5 weeks it should mend. :mal:

So you’re going to another vet? I thought your vet was doing a further test? Sorry, I’m probably misunderstanding something. I’m so bogged down in coursework, I’m probably getting confused.

We 2 differant pratice and this one we at now are doing the tests. In last 5 weeks she's had about 4 diff vets and the one I wanted was not aviable few times and as it's a massive pratice e.g. 14 shops and lots new vets straight from their collage I wanted a second opinion and fresh eyes.
We have this now.

Everything crossed they can get to the bottom of this, it’s good they are doing further tests. Come on Cocoa, we all loves you :luv:x

I do love the photos of cocoa hiding in the hay. She just seems to love hay diving, or maybe hates photos, not sure which :xd:
I think it’s a bit of both nowadays but she does love her hay. She’s such a love. She has a beautiful soft temperament for a piggy.
