Advice On Dental Issues?

She seems to have went down hill.

She's back to not wanting to eat much, not even peppers which are her absolute favourite.

Her weight before the dental was 1180g, yesterday it was 1130g, today it's 1090g.. I've offered her some mashed pellets which she's ate but she's not very interested it in. She absolutely loved her nuggets and usually breaks her legs to get to them bit she's not really able to eat them. She's sniffing them and lifting it with her mouth, having a nibble then just dropping it back out..

Are you able to get her back to the vet? did they consider a brewing dental abscess at all?

I really don't know whats going on with Toast.

Last night she seamed to be back to her self, running around and eating.
At 9 this morning she came running out for veg, tried to eat bits but ended up just leaving it.

I was out the house from 930 this morning until 12 and she seems to have been sat in the same place the whole time, no hay eaten around her..

I've just picked her up and offered some pepper and carrot and she ate it so fast, but I've just weighed her and she's now 100g less than she was on Tuesday.

I don't understand how she's so up and down? I've got an appointment for her tomorrow afternoon anyway, or should I try get one today? I don't know what to do for the best

I would try to get her seen today if you can. When she ate the carrot and pepper were you holding it?

I've got her in for 4 today.
Also just noticed that there's spots of blood on the fleece, she's been squealing when doing the toilet again. (Which is why I've got the appointment so soon)

Yes I was holding it when she ate it...

I would syringe feed also to try and stop anymore weight falling off.

This might seem a silly question but your scale batteries are OK?

Sometimes I weigh a tin or a pig I know the weight of to ensure my scales aren't showing any inaccuracies.

I thought that myself so I weighed Beans who's never changed weight by more than 5g in the year I've had her so they're definitely right. I don't understand what's happening now, she's up then down, seems fine for a while then reverts back

Really strange, How did she get on at he vets today?

It could be her bladder putting her off her food I guess.

It was Douglas who seen her.
He thinks it bloat that's putting her off her food.. she's lost 100g in 3 days.

She's been given Cisapride every 8 hours and she's got cystitis from the stress of everything so I've to up her Cystophan to 2 capsules daily.

In the last hour she's been running around, eating hay and annoying Beans so I don't want to speak to soon, but I think she's getting back to herself... :))

Toast isn't doing so great again. She's back to being off her food, hasn't done many poos since last night and the ones she has done are small and quite slimey..

She was eating fine on Friday so was put on Septrin (and a pro biotic) for Cystitis. She's coped with that AB in the past so I don't know if that's causing the issues. I've had her own trying to get her to run around. She doesn't seem bloaty so I don't understand what's going on...

Toast now hasn't ate anything in 12 hours.

I've sat up with her all night trying to syringe feed and she just won't take it.
Tried water too but she's not interested. She begrudgingly took a small cube of cucumber around 2am and 2 nuggets but that's all. She's not passed any stool whatsoever since last night either.

She's also not had any her medication, cystophan or Loxicom as she just won't swallow it, so she'll be feeling even worse.

I've got an appointment at 920 this morning.

I don't know what else they can do

Just wanted to say that we are all thinking of you and your wonderful Toast this morning.
You have done everything possible for your girl, and your dedication as an owner comes through in every post.

The vet said it's gut stasis, they've taken her in to get some fluids and CC into her.

Is this something she can recover from?

She ate a little cube of cucumber this morning and a small slice of Swiss chard, so surely that's a good sign she still has some appetite? I feel physically sick with worry

Yeah gut stasis is when the guts slow down because they have went off there food - definitely something they can get over depending on there condition.

She's definetly in the right place, really hope she rallies. She's been through so much.

Sending healing vibes to Toast. X

It's only been since Sunday afternoon, then got worse around midnight last night so I'm really hoping it's not too severe that it can't be treated, if it was too far gone surely he would have said so.
I did phone the OOH vet and explained, who said as long as I can get some food into her it can wait til morning.

Glenn's back and it's him who's dealing with her so I know she's getting the best care. I thoroughly embarrassed myself at the vets though, having a full on breakdown in the reception handing Toast over..

Don't worry about it I truly embarrass myself all the time I've even passed out there!

She's definitely getting the right care and to be honest if he thought she wouldn't make it he would have said, so he must also think she has a chance. Stay positive!

Hope Glenn can help, sorry I didn't see your update over the weekend. She is in the best place.

Update from the vet.

Toast is taking the syringe feed they're giving her, I'm sure the nurse said she's taken 35mls, she said she's actually sticking her mouth out to get the syringe so that's a good sign.

She isn't showing interest in veg or hay which worries me but she's taking the feed so that's something.

I haven't slept since Friday so I'm going to have a quick nap and hopefully there will be more progress in a few hours.

That's amazing news, once they get the guts moving she should be feeling a good bit better and maybe start eating hay! Fingers crossed. x

I hope she keeps improving! You seem to have the same rubbish luck with your girls that i get.. Must be something in the air! Xx

I've just picked Toast up. She's had 72mls of syringe feed since being at this vets from 10am.

I've been given Cisapride, Infacol, Fiberplex and Loxicom to give her.

I'm quite concerned that she's not eating any hay still..? She's picking at it and taking nibbles but not wanting to eat it. Same with veg... or is that to be expected right now?

She's back in with Beans but she's went right to her hay box and lay down.

And @Adelle , I know! I'm an emotional wreck the past couple months with them

Hopefully once she feels more comfortable she will want to eat more.

I'm suprised i havent gone grey with my 2 oldies.. Its horrendous! We just gotta keep going though eh!x

Okay I'm really struggling with this.

The nurse today said that Toast took the syringe no bother, even stuck her mouth out to take it. And the same with Fibreplex, took it no bother.

I've tried to syringe her and she absolutely will not allow it. She keeps trying to climb up to my shoulder or turns her head away from me... I don't understand why she took it fine at the vets but is putting up a fight with me? And as for the Fibreplex, as soon as she smells it she recoils in disgust.

This is so stressful
