You Know You’re Getting Old When…….

Anyone remember Tales of the Riverbank narrated by Johnny Morris
I remember it well, mainly because of the guinea pig!
Remembering all the things we did as children way back is also a reminder that children seem to have less freedom than we did.
If we played in the old shell of a house and got hurt we were just patched up or taken to A&E and sent off again.
The only rules were don’t talk to strangers and don’t accept lifts from strangers.
And to be home before it got dark.
We used to play on a lot of old farm equipment, stacked old pig arks, broken trailers and the like and drums that had contained pesticides, I doubt it would be allowed these days!

Playing with youngest brother on bale excavator winding it up and pushing the release knob just as he stepped into it,4 front teeth ,off to hospital, they saved them and replant them, l can't sit down for a few days!

That’s why fonts in old churches have lids - to stop the sheep and the cows drinking the Holy Water.

Loving all these memories.

I had to smile when I read you saying about getting patched up or taken to A&E and sent off again.....even though we did a lot of things that we probably shouldn't have done looking back, we had lots of adventures and fun! I think I used to have a season ticket to A&E I was there so often!
The rules about strangers (which were our only rules too) made me remember the "Charley says" safety public information films
and of course, can't forget about Tufty the squirrel too

I think you are a bit young for Charley Says @Betsy . From what I can remember Charley was an irritating child with a dreadful voice, at least that's what I thought when I was about 7! It was a government thing with a bad drawing of a boy whose mouth made most peculiar movements.
I loved Tufty. I belonged to the Tufty club hrough school, I think we got a badge and a magazine.

You are my new best friend! I'm older than you think. I've been married for 36 years in 12 days! We must be around the same age. Just Googled Charley says and it was in 1973. I was 7 then too.

That probably explains why I found him so irritating, I was 15 in 1973. Heck I really am getting old. :yikes:

I've got flu/COVID or a very bad cold at the moment, I feel 190. Slept most of the time for 2 days my ribs are bruised from so much coughing.
So sorry to hear that. My MIL has Covid and it’s floored her. Just rest up.
If you’re lucky someone from the 70’s will bring you a bunch of grapes in a paper bag and a glass bottle of Lucozade x

Hope you are soon feeling better

I was born in 1973 and I know of Charley says. So he was either on tv for years or he made a come back.

Hope your MIL recovers soon.

This latest Covid variant seems very unpleasant

Tonight I thought senility had taken a stronger hold. I was sitting here thinking I had loads of time before the Sainsbury's delivery arrived. 7.40 there was a knock on the door, hang on I thought - not due before 8.23! It's fine I'm here to accept it. Unpacked shopping, checked email again as I've obviously got it wrong - nope between 20.23 and 21.23. Counted on my fingers 3 times to make sure, I hate the 24hr clock, it definitely said after 8.23. Phew it's not me that's gone mad this time!
