Hmmmmm ....... since I'm new here i thought it would be nice to find out why you've all called your piggies their names......

So mine, at present i've 3 baby sows:

Whisper - because when i first saw her when she was just 2 weeks old, she was so quiet and timid, but so smooth and soft, reminded me of a quiet 'whisper' if that makes sense? however now 7 weeks old, how wrong i was! she should have been called 'miss bossy', or ' miss noisy' or 'miss i'm first'

Simba - my 15 year old daughter named her. She says its because shes brown and gold and got messy hair and a cute face, which would melt even the hardest hearts! Just like Simba the lion from 'the lion king'

Buster - well poor Buster i think will grow up totally confused! My little 3 1/2 year old son named her. but.......my son believes buster is a boy! i know, i know, but there is a reason behind it! basically my son doesnt like 'girls' or 'girlie things' so we had to tell him one of the 3 was a boy! He said it must be the black one because blacks a boy colour.....so there you go!

I've had other piggies in the past; Boyoe - because he was a boy

Gerry - he was golden/ginger like ginger spice out of the spice girls (yeah my daughter named him too)

And Jet - he was totally 100% black!

So.......what about you and yours?

Well, mine is pretty boring really. We adopted Connie from a family who no longer wanted her and just decided to keep her name as it was and when we decided to get her a friend, OH wanted to name her so he called her Eliza as he loves the name. I decided to spell it ELIZA instead of ELISA as I always like the unusual spellings of names :)p

My boys have pretty boring boys names really :{ Hamish and Elmo already had their names when I adopted them.

Fifi and Mimi just seemed to suit 2 of my sows and my little boy named Daisy, but her personality is so funny that I added a Boo on so she is Daisy-Boo!

When I had my piggies, I kind of followed a theme. I already had a cat called Daisy, a flower .... so followed that trend with things from the garden. Basil came first, with his son Parsley, and a few months later we took on the other half of the family, Basil's wife and daughter, so we called them Marigold and Lavender. Unfortunately Basil decided he no longer wanted Parsley living in the same cage, let alone house as him, and eventually he went back to live with his previous mum, our vet nurse - so dad Basil, mum Marigold and daughter Lavender stayed until our circumstances changed and we had to rehome them. But it was a herbal/flowery/garden theme. As it happens, Daisy died and we adopted a friend's cat who came with the name Saffron - still following the flowery idea.

Well...

Pheobe is called Pheobe as it's one of my most favourite names in the world and it just fits as she's majorly skatty like Phoebe in friends, but iused the other spelling

Andy named Ruby as she has red eyes and I wouldn't let him call her Scarlett

Bethany I named as it's another of my most fave names, I always pictured a Bethany/Beth as a quiet, beautiful and caring girl, which sums our Beth up, she's such a sweetie

Maggie-May I named as I called her Raggie, whilst trying out names, saying she's a "raggie, raggie maggie!" and maggie just stuck, then i started calling her maggie-may as my mum kept on saying that should be her name!

Sonny I named as it was the name he responded to the most, he was nearly Henry or Jake, but Sonny fits him better as he's the sunshine in my life, literally.

I had Peanut - he was a big golden chunkster of a boy - looked like a giant peanut! He passed over last weekend.

I have Poppy - my son named her - we seem to have a few animals with names beginning with P - can be confusing! We have a rat called Piglet and a rabbit called Pippin too.

Also Rose - Poppy's daughter - she nearly died when she was born and we called her Lazarus (who rose from the dead in the bible apparantly), then we discovered she was a girl so called her Rose as she rose from the dead - I'm sorry - it is very tongue in cheek! She does get called Rosie which is nicer!

And now the girly twins who are pure white - Crystal and Celeste - sparkly angelic names!

My daughters called Bethany, aka Beth - she is a quiet, beautiful and caring girl........so good choice ! ;)

My daughters called Bethany, aka Beth - she is a quiet, beautiful and caring girl........so good choice ! ;)

it's true, isn't it? it's just how a bethany should be. our bethany's are so precious. My beth is so quiet you could be forgiven forgetting she's there, but she's a mommy's girl, she loves to explore when i get her out! if she were a human, i'd love her to be my daughter.

My piggies are Prince Bambi and Prince Wiglet.
Bambi is so called because he is skittish and for the first few days I had him he just hid away when anybody came near. He is a rescued piggie, and wasn't handled hardly at all until I got him, now he gets so much attention he is coming round and acting less like a scaredy pig.
Wiglet was named because he is a Coronet, and has super long hair. He is like my pig in a wig, and thus ended up as wiglet. I sometimes call him Wriglet because he's such a wriggler!
They have the title 'Prince' because they are my little piggy princes, and are treated like royalty ;)

Well roxy - I couldnt decide what to call my piggies so I asked a friend and she said roxy because it was her favourite brand, and it suited her so I decided to call her roxy

Fizz - well at first i wanted to caller her tufty because of her fur (rosettes) but it sounded a bit boyish so I thought fizz, like a bath bomb :))

Well...there's Patches and Squeaky, who came to me already called that...and there's Emily and Humbug, who already had those names... And their children, Tribble, and Trouble, the two boys (named after the Star Trek Episode The Trouble with Tribbles!) and the wee girl, Allsorts. Was going for a sweetie name as her dad is Humbug...thought of licorice but she's got hardly any black on her, so Licorice Allsorts!

And finally, two foster boys. Benny and Fraser. Named after the mountie in Due South (Benton Fraser) which I was watching as I bonded them!

I named mine Pigglywink, just because it sounded so cute, and rolled trippingly off the tongue when I tried it out. But I always called her my little Piggles while I was nursing her.

well blaze was already named such by his foster mum (hels) and his brother was originally mouse but i renamed him spice because he had some colouring of a spice.
So when cinder, flame and spark arrived i kept on the hot theme

Well I have 20 atm, but have had 97 over the years, so won't go into all their names:)) Just a few...

:)

Minty and Garry had their names when I got them - Minty is grey and Garry (despite being black) has a ginger belly.

Benjamin had his name too when I got him. Thought about changing it, but I took too long trying to decide on an alternative that Benjamin just stuck.

When I got a friend for Ben, he couldn't have a fluffy cute name, so decided to go with Dave. Which, as he's such a little geezer, fits nicely!:))

I am hoping to get piggies very soon, but am despairing as I can't find any to rescue I may have to buy two! But we do have a lionlop bunny called Rhubarb.

I called him Rhubarb *** it really suits him :))

Bubbleberry-My Dad thought of this name, probably shouldnt explain what it is.....lol, but i found out when i googled her name rolleyes

Tansy - fits in with the flowers theme
Posy - fits in with flower theme!
Marigold - flower theme AND the right colouring!

Okay, this may take a while! I apologise in advance for the long post, though will try and keep it as short and sweet as possible. :)

Their rescue names are included in the descriptions as they had some interesting ones...

Themes -
The original girls theme:: flower/plant/herb-associated second name beginning with P;
The modern girls:: Variation of 'Rose' as second name;
The modern boys:: Types of apple

I refer to the pigs I adopted 2003-2007 as the originals - they comprise of Jasmine, Dexter and Gwenivere (and Charlie, Tuppence, Lottie - all now deceased). Anyone adopted 2008 onwards are the modern gang - Franklyn, Saffron, Breanna, Meghan, Willamina.

Jasmine-Peaches- Rescue name was Pistachio. Original girl, so she has Peaches as a second name to partially-fit the theme. Since the second name wasn't quite on the same lines as my other originals (Parsley, Poppy, Primrose), the name Jasmine stepped into the floral side of the theme.

Franklyn "Teddy" Edward- Rescue name was Peanut. Franklyn is a type of apple. Teddy was on our shortlist of names but wasn't quite right, so officially he is Franklyn-Edward in order to justify the nickname "Teddy". :)

Meghan Lottie-Rose- Rescue name was Pops. Meghan suited a simple but pretty name. Lottie-Rose is not only fitting the "modern girls theme", but is also a tribute to Lottie, a pig who I lost shortly before adopting Meg.

Willamina-Tuppyrose- Rescue name was Rodney. Willamina needed a very feminine, unique, delicate and pretty name to suit her looks and personality. Willa was a name that really worked with her, so officially she is Willamina, but almost always just known as Willa. Tuppyrose fits the "modern girls theme", and is a tribute to Tuppence (aka Tuppy) who I lost shortly before adopting Willa.

Dexter-Pippin- Dexter was just a name that came to us by chance. My mum and I looked through the baby name books and online for a couple of days, when 'Dexter' just suddenly came to mind. Pippin was originally meant to fit the second name of flowers/plants/herbs type beginning with P, but we realised since it was a type of apple, that would be the theme of the "modern boys"!

Gwenivere-Petal- Rescue name was Daisy. A traditional, fairly regal, and medieval or athurian name was the predominant idea when naming Gwen. Initially, as she came to us shortly before Christmas, we wanted a festive name, so we decided on Merriweather, aka Merry. But the name didn't stick, so thinking along the lines of other arthurian names we came across Genevieve. When looking at the meaning of the name Genevieve, Guinevere was also listed and just seemed perfect. The meaning is also perfect - "white phantom" for a PEW piggie! I changed the spelling so's to make it more unique, and spelt just as it is said. Petal fitted the "original girls theme".

Saffron-Willowrose- It took a few days to name Saffron, we went through so many names. We loved Willow, but it never suited as a first name, so we played with it a bit and came up with Willowrose - thus the creation of the "modern girls theme". Saffron was a very pretty and quite a rare name, and it just seemed to fit her well.

Breanna-Charleyrose- Breanna also took a couple of days to name. I shortlisted all the names I liked, and on that list was Brianna. My mum liked the name but wasn't sure of the spelling, so I switched it to Breanna, and that seemed to worked better. Charleyrose fits the "modern girls theme", and also is a tribute to Charlie, who I lost shortly before adopting Bree.

I had a guinea which was pregnant (unbeknown to me) when I got her from a pet shop. I called her biscuit and when she had the babies a friend of mine took the 2 boys and called them choc chip and cookie.
The names of my current guineas are:
Mouse - she looked like a mouse when she was tiny
Mop - wanted an M name to go with Mouse
Mischief - same reason as above
Minstrel - ditto
Angel - took her on from someone else already named
Rolo - named by my son (we had a toffee and fudge at the time so
he stuck with the sweet theme)
Truffle - named by my other son again sticking with the sweet theme
Bazil - looks like a Bazil
Zebedee - because I liked the name but he has turned out to be my biggest popcorner so the name fits
Doodle - don't really know why
Sparkle - born at a friends on a night when fireworks were going off
Splash - has a splash of white on her nose
Tilly - don't know
Boo - looks like a Boo (if you can look like a Boo!)

My current piggies are named...
Jonny... after Wilkinson:red
Buttons... a chocolate theme, as he is brown and tan and has a white dot on his nose..
Rolo... chocolate again, he is brown and tan..
Lulu... because it was the only name I could think of:{
Dusty... she was going in with Lulu, so thought name her after Dusty Springfield, a sort of 60's theme!
Alfie.... Alfie Moon in Eastenders (I am soooo sad!)
Quinn... his brother was called Harley... so harley-quinn!
Autumn... it was October...
'little' Nell... after an aunt..

Lottie.. like the name
Lucy... again mum named her!

Here are the reason's for the names I gave my newly adopted piggies (their old names were quite long and unusual):

Axel- Named after the charachet Axel from the video game, Kingdom Hearts 2. The piggy's hair is long and spiky, much like the character. And part of his hair is orange, again similar to the character.

Reno- Also named after a video game character, this time from the game Final Fantasy VII. His fur is mostly orange with a touch of black. And he has a long tuft of hair on his rear. The video game character has spiky red hair, with a rattail. It was too perfect for him!

My piggies names I had as a child were called

Rusty because he was ginger coloured

Winnie after winnie the pooh

Tammy after a comic of the same name.... showing my age here :red

Dougal (from the magic roundabout) because he was ginger with long hair

Mousey because he was grey ( I thought all mice were grey coloured....well I was little at the time!) :))

i had my first little fellow about 6 weeks before i could decide on a name, i'd been calling him mini pig, but now he's called furby, (as in the little toys that were huge here about 10 years ago, and yeah i had one) and my second boy who i have a week is called buzz lightyear, that one is obvious, i love toy story! my rabbits were called daisy, cause the last pony i got i wanted to call daisy and was told is was a stupid name for a pony, i was out numbered, but it suited my bunny, the second bunny was called dot, she was all black with a white nose. they both died....poor bunnies.....but i love my guinea pigs! (ps i am a grown up, just in case anyone thought i was a child!)
