Oh, that wasn't in one sitting, he took another 10ml of water at bedtime and 7-10ml of the syringe feed. I noticed his water bottle isn't going down much so I've decided to syringe feed him a little of the probiotic, how do I go about that. 1 sash in a cup throughout day again? x

Bah, both the syringes are broke and the others are in post still. I went pharmacy but that one didn't do any so I'll try boots tomorrow, otherwise he's actually eating the ones you gave me (blackcurrent pellets) himself without them being mushed, I know it won't be enough to help him gain weight but it's a start. They are in a little tray and it's funny *** he stands on side, it flips up, he eats, steps off and then it goes back flat lol.

Yeah, last 5 minutes he's been eating some, drinking some... so at least thats a good sign :) I'm out of the cysisit stuff now (I'm not too well so couldn't get out, will deffo do tomorrow) but he wouldn't drink the probiotics from his water bottle so I changed it to clean water and syringe fed him it instead. So far he's had 10 normal water, 5 with probiotic, 17-18 food. (this only stopped *** of syringe breaking.)

I have two boars at the moment who are being treated for mites and one was very underweight with alot of fur loss. I pretty much did for him what you are doing for your piggie ( sorry I've forgot his name! ) and he's put on almost 100g so just keep persevering. If he's eating pellets that definitely sounds positive, you can make up the slurry mix and put it in a shallow dish as well as he may eat it himself. I used the oxbow critical care initially with the two boars which they loved and I definitely think that was a big help in getting weight on them both so it may be worth getting him some of that if he's still not eating great.

When I had no syringes I managed to get a couple from the instore pharmacy at my local sainsburys.

I'm buying some from boots tomorrow, my boyfriend should get the 10 we ordered but I won't see him until the evening tomorrow and it'll be near 12 before we're back home again.

He's eating the pellets himself, I managed to get the syringe working and he took another 1 1/2 of the syringe food, 5 1/2 of water probiotics. I've noticed Corly (other pig) has scabs and hair loss now and he's a long haired pig... bah! lol I have mite treatment in post but the post is being really difficult at the moment.

Thank you for the hope though, I do hope Africa gets through this, he is full of life usually. Loves to sing :)

Any normal plain nugget feed should be fine, I've used Science Selective, Wagg Optimum, Burgess Excel, and Burgess Blackcurrent & Oregano. Only one I struggled to get mashed up as well is Oxbow Cavy Cuisine. The P@H own brand should even work out ok, not used it myself and I will buy a bag just to check myself, but they're made up very similar to the Burgess pellets.

I pay around £3 for a 2kg bag of Burgess Blackcurrent & Oregano.

Sorry to wander off topic.:red I would love to know where you get a 2kg bag of Burgess Blackcurrent & Oregano for only £3, Laura?

I do hope that Africa gets well soon. I would love to see a video of him singing!

Thank you for your offer but mine came this morning (at boyfriends) and I see him no later then 6pm tonight. I'm going to buy one from boots in a few hours so he gets food before then. I'll weigh him, but he did lose a few g's between the other day and yesterday 825g, 811g, 809g. So yes i'm not syringe feeding him enough, do I not stop when he says no more or am I meant to be a bit forceful (just don't empty the whole syringe)?

He's been eating on his own, just properly not enough to keep his weight stable. Ermm he drank enough water I think last night (probiotic) and well I've noticed he's peeing again. Unless his pellets are watery, they seem solid, its just a bit more lubricated when i pick him up?

Ok took all 4 pigs, Africa has a skin problem, needs to be bathed, had his teeth snipped at back *** were growing over tongue, am to syringe feed everyday and call him back Thursday.

Baby pigs need nothing done to them, Corly could use a bath just to make sure he's free of lice and such (looks healthy) he really liked Corly :) said he was part pedigrea(sp?)

Does he seem to be able to manage to eat food on his own now? It's fab that he's putting on weight, but if I were in your position I'd still be inclined to syringe feed a little until his weight is more steady. Hopefully the teeth trimming will have sorted him out as if his tongue was trapped it would have made eating difficult.

In answer to your previous question about how much to feed him when I had a very poorly piggie earlier this year me and Steven were doing shifts of feeding her so I'd get up around 6 and feed her until I left for work at about 8.15. I'd then pop home on my lunch break and do another 30 minutes then from getting home at 6 we'd feed her as much as we could until around 1 in the morning when we went to bed ( giving her breaks obviously ). Sometimes you do have to be a bit forceful but you also have to make sure they're swallowing it so I know how difficult it is! Hopefully you won't need to syringe food for much longer/at all but incase you do I thought I'd answer :)
